    Compassionate staff and excellent care

I placed my father at Powell Place and am very satisfied. The staff are exceptionally kind, compassionate, and well-trained - they treat residents like family and go out of their way to help. The community is beautiful, very clean, organized, with good meals, daily activities, and supportive management that gave us real peace of mind. Special thanks to Bobbe for making our move seamless.

    Summary of reviews

Overall impression Avista Senior Living Payson/Powell Place is described consistently as a clean, well-maintained, home-like senior community with a strong emphasis on compassionate, resident-centered care. Reviews emphasize that caregiving staff are attentive, well trained, and often go beyond routine duties to assist residents and families. Families commonly cite peace of mind, improved resident engagement, and effective coordination with hospice and external medical providers.

Care and staff Care quality is the most frequently praised element. Reviewers highlight 24-hour care availability, medication supervision, assistance with doctor visits, and staff willingness to provide individualized attention. Specific staff members and roles (activities director, sales representative, named caregivers) are repeatedly mentioned as positive contributors, indicating consistent personal engagement by front-line employees. The staffing culture is described as caring and invested in residents’ wellbeing; management is characterized as supportive and responsive to families.

Dining and activities Dining is generally viewed positively: many reviewers reference home-cooked meals, three daily meals, pleasant dining spaces, and an overall enjoyable culinary environment. However, there are occasional notes about individual residents disliking menu items or preferences not being met, suggesting variable meal satisfaction that may reflect individual taste or menu flexibility. Activities programming is a clear strength—reviews describe proactive, daily schedules, outings, group events, and active engagement that help residents socialize and stay involved.

Facilities and environment The physical plant receives strong marks for cleanliness, updated rooms (private and semi-private), accessibility features, and attractive outdoor spaces including patios and decks with views. The community is described as small and familiar, which families appreciate for personalized attention. The facility is also noted as pet-friendly and broadly well integrated into the local community.

Management and operations Admissions and tours are described as smooth and helpful, with specific praise for sales and leadership staff who assist families through the decision process. Coordination with hospice and outside providers is cited as effective. At the operational level, a few recurring issues emerge: some families note inconsistency in family communication, occasional variability in dining preference accommodation, and perceived limitations in capacity for residents with higher-acuity needs. Transportation is generally provided for outings and appointments, but a small number of families raised concerns about safety and reliability of the van service. Cost is mentioned as a concern by at least one family, indicating perceived pricing may be high for some prospective residents.

Notable patterns and recommendation guidance The dominant pattern across feedback is overwhelmingly positive—compassionate staff, active programming, clean facilities, and effective care coordination. Prospective residents and families should plan a tour (many reviewers recommend this) and discuss specifics such as dining preferences, communication expectations, and the facility’s capacity for higher-acuity needs. It would also be prudent to inquire about transportation policies, driver training and supervision, and any backup plans for outings or appointments, as well as a clear understanding of pricing and what services are included. Overall, the facility appears to provide a supportive, engaged environment suited to those seeking a small, community-oriented assisted living option.

    About Avista Senior Living Payson

Avista Senior Living Payson offers a range of senior care options for people over 55, whether someone wants independent living, needs assisted living, or requires memory care or skilled nursing, and the campus provides different levels of care so you or your loved one can stay in one place even if health needs change over time. Assisted living residents get help with daily tasks like dressing, bathing, meals, and medication management, with staff available at all hours and care tailored through individual plans, while memory care serves those living with Alzheimer's or dementia and skilled caregivers provide oversight, help with chronic conditions like diabetes, and support for changing needs. The apartments come as studios or one-bedrooms and have kitchenettes, private mailboxes, carpet, climate control, and plenty of closet space, and there are safety features like illuminated entryways, smoke detectors, and sprinklers everywhere, plus wheelchair-accessible showers and an emergency call system. Residents can bring their own pets, which means there are companions and familiar faces in the community, and the outdoor spaces, patio gardens, enclosed courtyard, and main street areas give residents places to walk, relax, or sit with neighbors, and there's even resident parking. Housekeeping, laundry, and apartment maintenance are all handled by staff, with guest meals, room service, and a hair salon available, and the community serves daily meals and snacks supervised by a dietician to help make sure dietary needs are met. Residents can use the library, movie room, fitness center, piano or organ, computer room, TV lounge, and enjoy free Wi-Fi, and there's always a schedule full of social programs like bingo, card games, gospel sing-alongs, cooking club, arts and crafts, visiting music, and group outings to town or scenic drives. Religious services, including a visiting chaplain, and devotional programs run regularly, and the staff helps with transportation to doctor appointments, shopping, or events outside the community, which sits close to local shops, activities, and dining. For those who need only short-term stays-such as while recovering from injury or surgery-respite care is available, and urgent placement can be arranged if needed. Caregivers get specialized training, and a team led by Resident Care Partners aims to help each resident thrive, keeping body, mind, and spirit healthy, and the community tries hard to balance help with independence, making sure there's privacy, safety, and space for personal items in each apartment. The common areas like living rooms with a fireplace, dining rooms, activity rooms, and cozy nooks give residents options for gathering or quiet time, and there's a focus on helping people stay active, social, and connected to others. Avista Senior Living Payson is an award-winning community set up for comfort, safety, and resident well-being in Payson, Arizona.
