    Clean, welcoming community, attentive staff

I moved my aunt here and have been very pleased - the family-owned, intimate community is clean, organized, and welcoming, with spacious rooms and a lovely central courtyard. The staff (Cindy and team) are attentive, kind, and go above and beyond; care and communication with families are excellent, meals are plentiful and tasty, and there's a lively calendar of music, exercise, and social activities. Tours were stress-free, Wi-Fi and transportation coordination are available, and I would recommend this place.

    Summary of reviews

Overall sentiment in the reviews for Mills Estate Villa is strongly positive, with the greatest emphasis placed on the quality of staff, personalized care, and an active, engaging community life. Almost every summary highlights caregivers as compassionate, attentive, and responsive — described variously as “angels,” “second to none,” and willing to “go the extra mile.” Families report clear, ongoing communication from staff and administration, coordination with doctors and transportation, and thoughtful support during difficult times (including seamless hospice coordination and staff attendance at memorial services). Low staff turnover and a family-owned, resident-focused culture are repeatedly cited as contributors to continuity of care and feelings of safety and respect for residents’ dignity.

Care quality and daily operations receive consistently high marks. Reviewers describe the facility as extremely clean, organized, and well maintained. Rooms are typically described as spacious and well-lit, with some units offering central courtyard views; daily room cleaning is standard. Practical supports such as appointment coordination, transportation with aides, and weekly hair services are noted frequently, suggesting an emphasis on convenience and holistic eldercare. Multiple reviewers mention that transitions — for example from respite care to permanent residency — were handled smoothly and with minimal stress, often beginning with a welcoming tour that put families at ease.

Dining and activities are clear strengths. Meals are characterized as fresh, plentiful, and enjoyed by residents; repeated praise for food quality and presentation appears across summaries. Recreational programming is robust: an activities director is singled out as “fantastic,” and offerings include music and musical entertainers, bingo, religious services, holiday dinners and festivities, morning exercise, and staged shows. These programs appear to foster resident engagement and social connection; reviewers note that entertainment and social opportunities help residents enjoy life and integrate quickly into the community.

Despite the many strengths, a few recurring concerns are notable and should be considered by prospective residents and families. The admissions and vetting process is described by some as frustrating or slow, and one review references unavailability at a sister site (Burlingame Villa), which could indicate capacity constraints at times. Several reviewers mention occasional long response times to call buttons — this is intermittent but mentioned enough to be a meaningful operational issue. A few aesthetic/amenity concerns were raised: some rooms lack a TV and would benefit from installations, there is mention of an unpopular dark green accent color, and the facility is described as having relatively high rates (though reviewers also note pricing can be negotiable).

In summary, Mills Estate Villa appears to deliver high-quality, compassionate eldercare in a clean, well-organized, and socially active setting. Strengths are concentrated around staff excellence, personalized attention, family communication, nutritious meals, and a lively activities program. The main downsides to probe further are administrative (admissions timing and availability), occasional response-time lapses to call buttons, and some minor amenity/aesthetic issues (TV availability, room color, cost). For families considering Mills Estate Villa, recommended due diligence includes visiting for a tour, asking specific questions about average call-button response times and staffing levels, confirming room amenities (TV/wifi), and discussing current availability and pricing/negotiation options.

    About Mills Estate Villa

Mills Estate Villa sits in Burlingame, California, on the San Francisco Peninsula, and houses up to 47 residents in a setting shaped by the CiminoCare organization, where people find independent living, assisted living, memory care, and hospice services all in one community, and Delia Montano manages the daily operations, supported by staff members who've been part of the community for many years, some more than 18, which always says a lot in places like these. Residents live in private or shared rooms, with all utilities paid except for the phone, and the weekly housekeeping and building maintenance keep things running smoothly, so people can spend their time enjoying the large dining room where three meals a day are served, or sitting out in the airy private courtyard among serene, well-tended gardens.

Caring for people with dementia or memory challenges is something Mills Estate Villa pays attention to, as they've got a secured memory care building aimed at keeping wandering residents safe, with trained staff watching over everyone 24 hours a day and making sure help comes fast in emergencies, and although residents can't get insulin injections here, those who need help remembering to monitor blood sugar or use the restroom get reminders as needed, and staff use mechanical lifts for non-ambulatory residents when necessary, which is important for families to know.

People stay busy and connected through daily activities like bingo, Tai-chi, expressive arts, body and mind fitness, and ice cream socials, plus visits from entertainers and therapy dogs that always create a little extra warmth in the house, and there's spiritual support, regular wellness checks, and even a beautician on site. Transportation is an option, with resident parking and busline access costing extra, and both the indoor and outdoor areas offer space for visits, relaxation, or quiet walks, letting people find spots they like best, whether that's under the trees or in the main activity rooms.

The place gives light to heavy care and tries to meet specific needs, tailoring care to folks with diabetes, mobility concerns, and other conditions that crop up later in life, with personal care like bathing, dressing, medication management and transfers always available-a strong support for people hoping to age in place as their needs slowly grow. Meals include vegetarian options if needed, and there's always help nearby for those needing a hand with daily routines, including hygiene and healthy eating, and outside therapists, podiatrists, dentists, and more stop by to tend to health matters.

Respite care gets offered for short-term stays, and support groups gather, especially for fragile residents who need a bit more attention or activities suited to what they can manage, and with wheelchair-accessible showers, wide hallways, and reasonable accommodations, the building stays open and inclusive for folks with hearing, vision, or mobility challenges. Families can visit, tour, and talk with staff to understand how the community works, while reviews give Mills Estate Villa high marks for compassion and professionalism, with a sense of dignity, independence, and respect at the heart of daily routines. The team works to connect each resident to the broader community if they want, tries to honor personal needs and preferences, and strives to provide a comfortable, welcoming, and safe spot for seniors needing different levels of daily help, which can be reassuring to those looking for straightforward and reliable care in a place that feels like home.
