    Bright homey six-room welcoming staff

I toured this lovely, homey six-private-room facility and felt immediately comfortable. Bright, sunny rooms, a delightful backyard patio with decks, and a visibly clean, well-run operation (meds documented, separate laundry, family camera) stood out. The owner and staff were welcoming and thorough, residents looked well cared for, and activities (including a weekly musician) made this my first choice.

    Summary of reviews

Overall sentiment across the reviews is strongly positive, emphasizing a small, home-like board-and-care with consistent cleanliness and attentive basic care. Reviewers repeatedly note that rooms are bright and sunny, the house smells and appears clean, and residents are well groomed—indicators of good daily personal care. Medication handling is presented as organized, with documentation and tracking in place. Personal hygiene is supported with daily showers or as-needed assistance, and the presence of a walk-in tub and bidet in the main bathroom highlights attention to resident comfort and some accessibility needs. Laundry is handled separately for each resident, a detail families often appreciate for hygiene and personalization.

Staff and management impressions are favorable. Staff are described as pleasant and welcoming, tours are thorough and informative, and families liked the owner. The home operates with two staff on duty at all times and a total of three caregivers across the facility, which reviewers cited factually; this staffing model appears to work in this setting but is also small. The facility has been in place for a long time (10 years at the location, and 3 years at the Beckham Road house), suggesting stability and experience. Families also value the remote camera access that allows them to log in and see what's going on, which increases transparency and reassurance.

The physical facility and amenities receive strong positive remarks. The house has six private rooms arranged in a two-section layout, with three bathrooms overall and a pleasant backyard with two decks and patio furniture described as delightful. Regular entertainment is arranged—a weekly musician and other entertainment—plus activities planned by staff as well as programs brought in by an outside agency. These offerings contribute to a homelike atmosphere rather than an institutional one, and many reviewers called the home lovely and homey.

Notable concerns and patterns appear consistently enough to be meaningful. Bathroom privacy is an issue for some: although there are three bathrooms for six rooms, reviewers specifically mentioned that a bathroom was shared with another resident and that the main bathroom (despite having accessible fixtures) can be located some distance from certain rooms, creating nighttime accessibility concerns. The limited size of the home—only six private rooms—means vacancies are rare; reviewers noted there were no available rooms at the time and only an anticipated vacancy. The small staffing complement (three caregivers total) is likewise a double-edged point: while two staff are on duty at all times, the overall small staff size may be a consideration for families wanting larger-staffed settings or more 1:1 availability for high-needs residents.

Social interaction and resident mix are other mixed areas. Activities and entertainment are provided, but multiple reviewers observed that current residents are "not very interactive," and several residents are in wheelchairs. That combination can limit communal engagement for some prospective residents who are seeking a very active social environment. In short, this facility appears to excel at cleanliness, basic personal care, medication management, and offering a warm, small-home atmosphere with some accessible fixtures and family-facing technology. Prospective families should weigh those strengths against the smaller scale, potential bathroom/privacy logistics (especially at night), the current lack of vacancies, and the limited staff pool when determining fit for individual care and social needs.

About Abigail Board & Care LLC

Abigail Board & Care LLC sits on Rose Lane in Concord, California, and runs as a private care home focused on elder care, where the team puts a big effort into personalized care plans for every resident, and you'll notice right away how the home feels like a real house instead of some big, busy building, because it's in a quiet neighborhood and is set up to be easy for everyone to get around, and what happens is the staff-who are trained to help with daily activities and are there all day and night-assist with things like bathing, dressing, and medication, and there's CPR-trained help around the clock, keeping things safe and well-managed with rooms that are private or semi-private to let folks pick what suits them best.

Meals are fresh and nutritious, with staff making sure to handle special diets, and people get snacks as well, while every day there's a plan for activities, social programs, and even spaces, indoors and outdoors, for reading, watching movies, or just getting some sun, so folks don't feel left out or bored. The place also provides transportation services for medical appointments and helps coordinate those visits, so families don't have to worry about getting their loved ones to the doctor or the grocery store. Safety features are all around, because the home follows rules for health inspections and caregiving, and every care plan fits what the resident needs, whether they need simple support or more complex help, including memory care for those with dementia or Alzheimer's, or hospice care when that time comes, with staff always trained in elder care and focused on keeping folks comfortable, involved, and safe.

There's also attention to keeping families in the loop, since Abigail Board & Care emphasizes giving families the power to make informed decisions about long-term care, and the team explains choices and services, so there's no confusion and families can feel confident and included. Residents get a homelike, supportive place to live, whether they need assisted living, independent living, or other specialized services, and even though rates aren't always listed upfront, the care and setting are designed to keep seniors as comfortable and independent as possible, which is probably why the home tends to have good ratings from families and residents.
