    Rehab-focused staff improved my life

I lived at Manning Gardens and my quality of life noticeably improved - the staff were kind, professional and attentive. Alicia in physical therapy helped me recover, wound-care nurses, CNAs and nurses were excellent, and the rehab-focused team got me from a G-tube to puree to regular meals. Beautiful grounds, engaging activities (even Saturday fairs) made it feel like home. Very pleased and would recommend to others.

    Summary of reviews

The reviews present a mixed picture of care at this facility, with clear strengths in clinical specialties and notable operational concerns. On the positive side, families consistently cited strong clinical contributors: wound-care nurses, physical therapists, CNAs and several nurses received praise for competence and compassion. Rehabilitation services receive commendation when they are active, with examples of measured progress through therapy (including transitions from tube feeding to oral diets). Many reviewers also described a welcoming atmosphere, engaging activity programming, and pleasant outdoor grounds; bilingual Spanish-speaking staff and personalized meal options were mentioned as meaningful supports for some residents.

Conversely, a recurring set of operational weaknesses appears across reviews. Cleanliness and sanitation management were frequently described as inconsistent, and several reviewers raised pest-control and odor concerns in resident areas and public spaces. Environmental maintenance issues โ€” such as aging finishes, uneven flooring, outdated carpeting, and malfunctioning showers or windows โ€” were raised as safety risks. Staffing variability is a central theme: reviewers described both compassionate, attentive staff and episodes of slow responsiveness to call lights, missed assistance with mobility and bathroom needs, and turnover that affected continuity of care. Medication management and tracking emerged as a significant concern, including delays, missing medications, and at least one set of serious allegations related to medication diversion and security; families should seek clarification on the facility's medication-administration controls and auditing practices.

Communication patterns vary widely. Many families reported regular clinical updates, receptive staff, and helpful nurses; others experienced poor communication, language barriers, and limited transparency around incidents and care plans. Dining experiences were similarly mixed: several reviewers praised customized meals and improved diets, while others cited inconsistent meal schedules and limitations in diabetic accommodations. Activity programming and social opportunities were frequently identified as strengths when present; reviewers who engaged with the activities team noted improved quality of life during the stay.

For prospective residents and families: this facility appears capable of delivering high-quality, rehab-focused care in specific instances, especially where skilled therapists and nursing staff are assigned. However, the range of experiences suggests uneven operational oversight in sanitation, environmental maintenance, staffing consistency, medication controls, and family communication. When evaluating this facility, consider an on-site tour that includes observation of cleanliness, meal service during a dining period, review of the medication-administration protocol, inquiry about pest-control and maintenance schedules, clarification of staffing ratios and call-response expectations, and discussion of how the facility communicates with families and manages language access. These checks can help determine whether the facilityโ€™s strengths align with a prospective residentโ€™s priorities and risk profile.

    About Manning Gardens

Manning Gardens stands as an older care facility, having not seen any major updates since the 1930s, and many visitors have said the building looks and feels outdated, with some calling it old, dirty, and smelly, which is often a point of concern for families considering the place, though others mention the staff behave professionally and seem encouraging toward residents, so there's a bit of a mixed reputation when people talk about this place. The facility works to create a calming and quiet environment, aiming to focus on quality care and gentle, courteous service, especially for those needing special support, and they try to offer peace of mind by handling resident needs quickly, with a focus on compassion. Manning Gardens offers a range of skilled nursing and therapy services, such as cardiac care, diabetes care, cancer care, pain management, medical counseling, IV care, as well as wound care and more complex care needs like bariatric, hospice, and dementia or Alzheimer's programs, plus respite stays if families need a break, and both short or long-term options. The staff here provide restorative and respiratory care, though reviews are inconsistent about cleanliness and staff attitude, so it's a good idea for families to visit ahead of time. Inside, the building includes different rooms and living setups, typically offering amenities and programs like meals, nutritional management, and group activities to help keep residents comfortable and engaged, and there are special safety and security systems in place to protect residents. The therapy services cover things like rehabilitation after surgery, cardiac and orthopedic recovery, stroke rehabilitation, physical, occupational and speech therapy, and post-surgical care, which helps support a wide range of resident needs. Manning Gardens says it wants to enrich residents' lives through lessons in dignity, quality, and care that goes the extra step, and it does work with residents and their families to address concerns, but everyone should be aware of the documented downsides about cleanliness and building age.
