    Attentive staff and welcoming community

I toured and moved my parent here and have been very pleased. The staff are exceptional-attentive, caring and knowledgeable-and the community is immaculate with comfortable rooms, a warm restaurant-style dining room and tasty meals. There are plentiful activities, a lovely garden and pet-friendly touches; the team was helpful and informative throughout the tour, and I'd recommend this welcoming, well-run place.

    Summary of reviews

The Grove / Sunrise of Fresno presents as a well-maintained, home-like senior living community with many strengths in daily life and resident engagement. Families consistently describe clean, hotel-like interiors, attractive common areas, and thoughtfully maintained gardens. The facility is pet-friendly and offers a range of amenities — library, theater, gym, raised garden beds, and multiple activity spaces — that support socialization and daily stimulation. Living options cover studios, one-bedroom units, assisted living and memory care, which allows residents to remain in a familiar environment as needs change.

Staffing and caregiving are widely cited as the facility’s strongest attributes: reviewers note compassionate, attentive caregivers, long-tenured employees, and individualized attention including hospice coordination. Many families praised the responsiveness of nurses and aides, the chef’s flexibility for dietary needs, and the community’s emphasis on emotional enrichment through arts, music, Bible study, outings and exercise programs. This combination of interpersonal care and activity programming contributes to a generally positive day-to-day resident experience.

Dining and activities are frequently highlighted. Meals are often described as appealing, with customizable options and accommodating culinary staff; flexible dining hours and organized off-site trips are also positives. Activity programming is broad — arts and crafts, games, movie/showings, choir and faith-based groups — though a few families wished for more frequent off-premises outings. The community atmosphere is characterized as welcoming and social, with many residents forming new friendships quickly.

Despite these strengths, reviewers also identify several operational concerns prospective families should clarify. Cost and billing are prominent issues: the community is described as relatively expensive, with additional charges for medications, incontinence supplies and other services that can increase out-of-pocket expense. Staffing consistency and communication between clinical and care teams were cited as uneven in some accounts; these issues were linked to delays in care, missed handoffs, and, in a few instances, safety incidents that raise questions about night-shift checks and fall-prevention practices. Memory-care offerings show variability in layout and program delivery, and some families expressed privacy and program-structure concerns for memory-needs residents.

Management transitions and administrative practices have also affected perceptions: ownership changes and personnel turnover were described as creating temporary inefficiencies, and several reviewers advised caution around marketing and admissions interactions — including aggressive sales approaches and occasional mismatches between promised and delivered room assignments. Limited on-site walking space was noted by some as a constraint for residents who are mobile and wish to walk outdoors frequently.

For families considering this community, recommended areas to evaluate during a visit include current staffing ratios (including night coverage), formal protocols for fall prevention and clinical handoffs, exact billing practices for medications and supplies, the structure and staffing of the memory-care program, and actual availability and assignment policies for private rooms. Observing mealtime and an activity session and speaking with current residents and family members can help corroborate the community’s strengths in hospitality and engagement while clarifying the operational trade-offs related to cost, staffing, and clinical consistency.

    About The Grove Senior Living

The Grove Senior Living sits in central Fresno, close to Cedar Vista Hospital, St. Agnes Medical Center, and Kaiser Permanente Medical Center, and has a two-story building surrounded by gardens, patios, a fountain, and landscaped grounds with safe, walkable paths and garden beds where you might see people sitting and chatting. This place has independent living, assisted living, memory care for dementia and Alzheimer's, and nursing and rehab all in one spot, so there's care for people as their needs change. Residents choose from various rooms-studios, single rooms, or two-bedroom suites-with features like fully furnished private bathrooms, kitchenettes, air conditioning, Wi-Fi, cable TV, and safety features such as handicap accessibility, grab bars, sprinkler systems, and wheelchair-friendly showers. There's both private and shared room options, with monthly rates from $1,500 to $6,000.

You'll find full-time nursing, 24-hour staff, personal care assistant help, and services like medication management, physical, occupational, and speech therapy, home health care, hospice, and respite care for families needing a break. The community allows pets and has a no-smoking policy indoors. There's a fitness center, salon/barbershop, craft room, small library, game and media room, computers, guest parking, resident parking, and Wi-Fi through the building, and the kitchens and maintenance are handled by the staff, so there's always someone around to help. Housekeeping, laundry, dry cleaning, linen changes, and move-in assistance help take care of daily chores, and the staff walks residents or helps with wheelchairs when needed.

There are indoor and outdoor spaces for gathering-dining rooms with large tables and fireplaces for social meals, a bistro offering snacks, a refreshment station with coffee and fruit, and Memory Care spaces set apart with their own patio, library, and dining room with soft lighting, plus a private dining room for family visits. Food's a big deal here, with meal service in a restaurant-style dining room and room service if needed, and there are menus for special diets like diabetic, kosher, or vegetarian-all prepared to taste good and meet nutrition needs. The calendar overflows with daily activities and community events, arts and crafts, educational and health classes, exercise and lifelong learning groups, devotional services, on-site and off-site day trips, and memory care has its own programs to help residents with memory loss. Residents have options for medical transportation as well as rides for errands and appointments. Family and community involvement is welcome and encouraged, and the staff works hard to create a feeling of belonging and connection, helping each person settle in and find comfort.

The Grove Senior Living recommends touring the community, reviewing services, and talking openly about care levels and costs before moving in to make sure everything fits the resident's needs. Staff keep things personal, making comprehensive care plans from the start and staying available for questions or support through a front desk and call system any time of day or night. Both male and female seniors are welcome, and the community keeps a peaceful, non-smoking environment indoors for everyone's health and comfort. Pets are allowed, and people can choose to bring their own furnishings to personalize their suites. This place isn't the biggest in the area, but it has a reputation for strong relationships and a welcoming, family-owned feel where staff know residents by name and look out for one another each day.
