    Outstanding care with limited programming

My mom has lived at Glenwood Care for five years and I highly recommend it - the care is outstanding and gives me real peace of mind. The staff (especially Dora and Tony) are gentle, attentive, compassionate and very professional; the director is excellent. The home is extremely clean, organized, odor-free, safe, with home-cooked meals and daily showers. Downsides: it's not very homey, activities are limited, and we did have a bed sore from insufficient mobilization, so it may not be the right fit if you need robust programming.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews is strongly positive with consistent praise for cleanliness, individualized personal care, and a compassionate caregiving team. Multiple reviewers emphasize that the facility is exceptionally clean with no unpleasant odors, and that staff are professional, respectful, and attentive. Care tasks such as daily baths/showers, hair washing, skin care, and bedding attention are repeatedly noted as being performed reliably. Several reviewers name specific caregivers (Dora and Tony) and describe them as outstanding, gentle, and proactive, and they credit the director/management with creating a pleasant, organized, and peaceful atmosphere. These qualities contribute to family members feeling emotional relief and peace of mind about their loved ones' safety and wellbeing. Long-term residency (one reviewer cited five years) is presented without decline, reinforcing the sense of stable, dependable care.

Care quality and staffing emerge as the strongest themes. Reviewers frequently use terms like "top notch," "extraordinary personal care," and "high regard" for the staff. The caregiving team is described as attentive, compassionate, and respectful, with daily, hands-on attention that includes hygiene and skin/bedding care. Several comments specifically mention that residents are consistently kept clean and well cared for, and relatives express high trust in staff and willingness to recommend the facility. The director earns repeated praise for leadership and creating a welcoming environment.

Facility and environment are generally described positively but with qualifiers. The property is organized, extremely clean, and peaceful; visitors are encouraged and the environment is conducive to family reassurance. Rooms can be personalized, which many families appreciate. The yard is described as simple but safe. At the same time reviewers note that decor and aesthetics are basic—some describe the facility as "not homey," "unattractive," or "basic." These comments suggest the emphasis at Glenwood Care is on clinical thoroughness and safety rather than upscale or homelike design.

Dining and daily living are positive areas: reviewers report home-cooked, nutritious meals and attentive daily hygiene routines. The homemaking and meal service appear reliable and comforting to families, contributing to residents' contentment. Visiting is encouraged, and the overall tone reported by families is one of calm and order.

Notable concerns and patterns: several reviews point to limited social engagement or activities. Observations that many residents were sleeping during visits and explicit comments about "lack of interaction" indicate that activity programming or engagement could be an area for improvement. One reviewer reported a serious care lapse (a bedsore attributed to staff not getting the resident up enough), which contrasts with the otherwise strong praise for daily care; this suggests variability in care or an isolated incident that families should clarify during intake and ongoing oversight. A minority of reviewers felt the facility was "not the right fit" for them, citing location (too far), the plain decor, and a less homelike feel as reasons.

Bottom line: Glenwood Care is presented across reviews as a clean, safe, and well-managed board-and-care facility with a standout caregiving team that provides reliable, compassionate personal care and daily hygiene. Families consistently report trust in staff, good meals, and peace of mind. Prospective families should weigh the strong caregiving and cleanliness record against the limited activity/social engagement and the facility's basic aesthetic; they should also ask for specifics about mobility plans and pressure sore prevention to address the single bedsore report. Overall, for families prioritizing attentive, personal care and a calm, organized setting, Glenwood Care receives multiple strong recommendations.

    About Glenwood Care

Glenwood Care in Fullerton, California, has a quiet, cozy feel, and there's only room for up to six residents, so people tend to get to know each other and the staff pretty well over time. You'll find both private and shared rooms, all on one floor, with wheelchair-accessible showers and private bathrooms available, and those rooms can be decorated with your own furniture if it makes you feel more at home. Meals are homemade and served in the dining room or brought to your room if you need that, and you can ask for different types of food, like vegetarian, vegan, heart-healthy, diabetic-friendly, gluten-free, dairy-free, or sugar-free meals. Snacks and drinks are around all day, and mealtime is flexible-there's always something to eat.

Staff are around 24 hours a day, with a Licensed Vocational Nurse in charge and English-speaking caregivers trained to help with medication, bathing, dressing, incontinence, moving around, injections, and all those regular personal care routines that get tougher in later years. Glenwood Care offers assisted living services as well as board and care home services, and supports people with memory problems, including dementia and Alzheimer's. The memory care area is secure with bracelets and alarms to prevent wandering, and routines stay the same so folks don't get confused. Glenwood Care also welcomes people who need more help, such as two-person assist or mechanical lift transfers, and they accommodate high acuity care, diabetes, non-ambulatory needs, and those who are at risk of eloping or have behavioral challenges.

There's a focus on keeping things calm and low-key, especially for people with dementia, and keeping caregivers familiar so residents aren't always seeing new faces and getting mixed up. You'll see personal care plans for each resident, including therapy designed to keep body and mind working as best as possible, plus planned activities most days, everything from music therapy, crafts, movie nights, garden walks, and outings to the shops or places of worship. Housekeeping, laundry, linen changes, and medication reminders are all part of daily life, and the staff handle things like medical appointments, podiatrist visits, injections, and even hospice and respite care. A beautician comes by, and there's an outdoor patio and a rose garden for sitting outside.

Security is steady-with a guarded gate, daily visiting hours from 9:30 am to 5:00 pm, and a property manager on site. Families know their loved ones are with a team that pays attention, and residents get as much independence as safely possible in a structured, supportive setting. Glenwood Care is licensed by the state of California, has open parking, and is close to local spots in Fullerton, and while pets aren't mentioned as being there, options for pets may be available. The place isn't flashy and doesn't try to be, but does cover a lot of the needs older adults have as they age in place, including terminal care if needed. There's always a nurse available, and specialists-like speech, occupational, or physical therapists-can visit. The focus really is on seeing each resident as an individual and respecting their routines, preferences, and history, so the atmosphere stays friendly, steady, and personal.
