    Grateful for excellent convalescent care

I placed my mother in Chandler's convalescent care and am very grateful. The staff-CNAs, nurses and PTs (Tiffany especially)-were punctual, professional and went out of their way to make us comfortable; the rehab, clean rooms, good food and activities helped my mom recover and return home. I highly recommend Chandler.

    Summary of reviews

Reviewer impressions of Chandler Convalescent Hospital are mixed, with a clear split between praise for direct-care teams and recurring operational concerns. Many families and former patients described positive interactions with direct caregivers โ€” particularly CNAs and therapy staff โ€” noting professionalism, helpfulness, and successful rehabilitation outcomes for some residents. Physical and occupational therapy services were singled out positively in several accounts, and activities and entertainment were identified as features that contributed to residentsโ€™ comfort and morale. Cleanliness of some common areas and resident rooms was also noted positively in several reviews.

At the same time, a number of operational patterns raised concerns about consistency of care. Staffing levels and frequent turnover were cited as contributing factors to delayed assistance, inconsistent bathing and personal-care schedules, and uneven responsiveness to call bells. Several reviewers described problems with therapy access tied to scheduling conflicts or room assignments that limited participation. There were also multiple references to medication-management issues and other gaps in clinical controls; while these observations vary in severity, they point to an area warranting verification during a facility tour and conversation with leadership.

Dining and activities produced divergent impressions. Some reviewers praised the food and the social/entertainment offerings, while others described inconsistent meal quality and interruptions to meal-service continuity. Similarly, although activities were described as engaging by some, understaffing or resource limitations were reported to reduce participation for other residents.

Facility appearance and hygiene assessments were mixed. Several families described the environment as clean and residents as well cared for, whereas other accounts raised sanitation and incontinence-care concerns in specific areas and noted a dated physical appearance. Infection-control practices also drew mixed observations: some reviewers reported strict screening early in the COVID-19 period, while others described inconsistent PPE use and protocol adherence among staff.

Management and communications were recurring themes. Reviewers reported perceived management instability, a sense of administrative focus on financial considerations, and variable responsiveness from leadership. High staff turnover and reports of inconsistent staff conduct and communication tone contributed to some familiesโ€™ negative impressions. There were also remarks about lapses in safeguarding resident property that suggest a need for stronger property-management processes.

Overall, Chandler Convalescent Hospital appears to offer capable front-line caregiving and rehabilitation services in many cases, but prospective residents and families should weigh those strengths against the reported variability in staffing, medication and infection-control practices, personal-care consistency, and management stability. When evaluating the facility, recommended steps include asking for current staffing ratios, reviewing recent infection-control and medication-safety policies, observing meal service and activity schedules, and asking how the facility secures and documents resident belongings. These checks will help determine whether the facilityโ€™s current operational performance aligns with a familyโ€™s priorities for safety and consistent daily care.
