    Compassionate staff restored my mobility

I had a very positive stay - compassionate, professional staff who truly went above and beyond, with excellent nursing and therapy that helped restore my mobility. The facility was immaculate and homey, meals and activities were engaging, and administration made the transition smooth. I'm grateful to the team for treating me like family and would recommend it for skilled nursing or rehab.

    Summary of reviews

Overall impression: The reviews portray Edgewater Skilled Nursing Center as a facility with strong strengths in clinical rehabilitation, compassionate frontline staff, and an active social environment. Many families and residents describe skilled nursing and notably effective physical and occupational therapy that produce measurable functional gains and increased independence. The facility's housekeeping, overall cleanliness, and a visible commitment to a welcoming, family-like culture are recurrent positives.

Care quality and clinical operations: Nursing and therapy are repeatedly cited as core strengths. Reviewers emphasize patient progress after therapy, patient-centered rehabilitation goals, and hands-on nursing support during transfers and therapy sessions. At the same time, a pattern of medication-related operational gaps emerges: delayed or omitted medications, inconsistent medication reconciliation at discharge, and communication breakdowns around medication handoff. These weaknesses have, in several instances, resulted in emergency-care utilization or the need for follow-up correction after discharge. There are also multiple mentions of incontinence-care and wound-management practice gaps; these indicate variability in bedside clinical follow-through that families should evaluate during a tour.

Staff and management: The staff are frequently described as warm, attentive, and familiar with residents by name. Leadership and key administrative roles are characterized as accessible and supportive, and the social-work/case-management function is often highlighted as helpful for discharge planning. However, reviewers also describe variability in staff responsiveness (long call-light waits at times) and occasional conduct concerns. A small number of more serious allegationsโ€”including theft and significant care concernsโ€”appear in the record; these should prompt prospective families to ask about incident investigation processes, staff supervision, and safeguards when considering placement.

Dining and activities: Dining receives largely favorable comments for balanced, chef-prepared meals, snacks, and accommodated diets. That said, a minority of reviewers described inconsistent meal quality or service continuity. The activities program is a pronounced strength: a wide range of social, recreational, and personal services (bingo, trivia, music, hair services, birthday celebrations) contributes to a lively, engaged resident atmosphere and strong staff-resident relationships.

Facilities and environment: Most reviewers describe a clean, well-maintained interior with strict infection-control practices during outbreak periods; many cite pleasant odors and frequent disinfection. Operational or maintenance issues are intermittent but presentโ€”examples include small room size, some cosmetic wear (peeling wallpaper), parking constraints, and localized grounds/parking-lot maintenance concerns. The facilityโ€™s environment tends to be busy and social, which some families value and others find noisy.

Notable patterns and practical guidance: The review set is polarizedโ€”many enthusiastic endorsements of therapy, nursing, activities, and cleanliness sit alongside a smaller but consequential set of safety and communication concerns. Patterns to probe when considering Edgewater include medication administration and reconciliation workflows, discharge-medication handover procedures, incontinence and wound-care protocols, response times to resident requests, and the facilityโ€™s processes for investigating allegations of theft or other serious incidents. Prospective families should also observe mealtime service and activity engagement during a visit, ask about staffing ratios on different shifts, and confirm post-discharge support and medication delivery arrangements.

In summary, Edgewater demonstrates clear strengths in rehabilitation, caregiving culture, housekeeping, and activities programming; those strengths are tempered by operational inconsistencies in medication management, bedside clinical follow-through, and occasional property/communication issues. For families prioritizing strong therapy and a warm, active environment, Edgewater may be a good fit provided the family confirms the facilityโ€™s mitigating practices for the operational concerns described above.

    About Edgewater Skilled Nursing Center

Edgewater Skilled Nursing Center is a for-profit facility with 81 certified beds, and it's one of those places where people go when they need skilled nursing care for the long term or help getting back on their feet after something like a hospital stay, with both short-term rehabilitation and long-term support available. The care team works day and night, all week, so folks get supervision and help around the clock, including help with basic things like bathing, dressing, taking medicine, transfers, and more, especially for those with non-ambulatory needs or who need a bit more hands-on support. The place has a physical therapy and occupational therapy department run by skilled professionals who use up-to-date ideas and equipment, which folks say is one of the best around, and those therapy teams try all sorts of approaches-from hands-on work to newer technology-so each resident gets a custom program that fits their needs. Medicare and Medicaid are both accepted, which helps out a lot of families, and six beds out of the total will be available in June 2025, so space can be an issue from time to time. Edgewater runs on a team approach, with staff working together and with doctors, families, and residents to plan care. There's assistance with daily living for people who need more or less help, and the facility tries to keep things safe, clean, and comfortable with supervised activities, outings, and a focus on keeping people as active as they're able. The staff at Edgewater try to make the transition easier and keep families in the loop, doing their best to brighten the day, with a sense of community that's important to everyone there. The center is also known for having a clean environment, reliable staff, and a focus on orthopedic care and rehabilitation, helping people return home when possible or providing a safe place for those who need to stay longer. Edgewater offers respite care so caregivers can get a break, and the call system means help is always close, whether it's a weekday or a weekend. The staff aim to provide therapy and care that improve quality of life, and the rehab team works with families and doctors to adjust plans as needed, handling everything from short stays to ongoing, more complex nursing needs.
