    Clean facility, caring staff, concerns

I placed my mother here and overall the facility is clean, well-kept with large rooms, lovely views, active programs, and genuinely caring, responsive staff - she settled in and we felt reassured. That said, I've seen recurring issues with food quality/portion size and repetitive menus, spotty housekeeping/hygiene and communication around meds/medical changes, and a few serious administrative and billing concerns that warrant caution. I'd recommend touring and asking detailed questions about medical coordination, housekeeping, and billing before deciding.

    Summary review

Overall impression The reviews present a mixed but strongly polarized picture of CityView. A substantial portion of reviewers praise the building, amenities, and caregiving staff — describing a clean, well-kept property with large rooms, rooftop views, and a warm, social atmosphere. At the same time a smaller but serious subset of reviewers report significant and potentially severe problems, including medical neglect, medication errors, hygiene failures, billing disputes, and allegations of abusive or unethical administrative behavior. These positive and negative themes coexist across the review set, producing a community that many families appreciate and recommend, yet that raises red flags for others.

Care quality and staff Most reviewers emphasize the strength of direct care staff: caregivers are frequently described as gentle, loving, attentive, and responsive, and many families explicitly credit staff with improving their relatives' quality of life or providing comfort at end of life. Several reviewers specifically highlight staff availability (‘‘always there when needed’’), personality (personable, friendly), and the ability to accommodate individual requests. However, contrasting reports describe serious lapses in medical care: medication errors, neglect leading to dehydration and infections, and a few extreme allegations such as resident assault and staff theft. Communication is another mixed area — while many families praise timely responses, others report poor communication about medication administration, pickup procedures, and changes in resident condition. The net pattern suggests competent frontline caregivers in many cases but inconsistent nursing oversight, record-keeping, and administrative follow-through in others.

Facilities and housekeeping Physical amenities are often cited as a strength: large rooms with walk-in closets, nicely renovated apartments, rooftop/roof garden with panoramic city views, outdoor spaces, and attractive community rooms. Many reviewers describe the property as clean and well-maintained. Contradicting accounts note dirty facilities, poor housekeeping (including reports of unchanging sheets and hygiene lapses), and occasional bad chemical smells in hallways. This split suggests variability in daily housekeeping performance or inconsistency across floors/units — prospective families should verify housekeeping routines and inspect living spaces during a visit.

Dining and nutrition Dining experiences vary widely. Several reviewers praise tasty, healthy meal options, accommodating dietary needs, and social dining opportunities. Others complain about repetitive menus, poor food quality, small portions, and concerns about high-fat or calorie-dense choices. A few memory-care-related comments note dietary needs being addressed, while general-dining comments range from ‘‘delicious lunch’’ to ‘‘not enough food’’ or ‘‘lunch-like dinner menu.’’ Given this variation, dining appears serviceable for many but inconsistent; families with specific nutrition goals or restrictions should request sample menus and meet with dietary staff.

Activities and social life Many reviewers report a robust activities schedule, frequent outings, friendly residents, and strong social opportunities — reviewers mention new friendships, active communities, BBQs on the roof, and a pleasant social climate. Conversely, some say the community is quiet with limited activities or lacking supervision during events. Overall, activity programming is a clear positive for many residents but may depend on the unit, staffing levels, or the resident population at any given time.

Management, billing, and administrative issues Administrative impressions are split. Some reviewers call management improvement-oriented, informative, courteous, and accommodating. But several serious administrative concerns appear repeatedly: billing for services not provided, poor communication about resident changes, allegedly abusive emails from administrators, and at least one attempted eviction claim. These administrative complaints are among the most actionable and serious themes in the reviews because they affect safety, legal standing, and trust. Prospective residents should ask pointed questions about billing practices, incident reporting, family communication protocols, and escalation paths for grievances.

Safety and serious concerns A minority of reviews report very serious issues: neglected medical care, medication errors, dehydration, infections, alleged resident assault, staff theft, and subpar clinical oversight. While these appear less frequently than positive care reports, their severity requires attention. Any facility with mixed feedback that includes such allegations should be investigated carefully: request staffing ratios, turnover rates, resident incident logs, and a clear description of clinical oversight (licensed nurses, medication administration policies, emergency response procedures). Families should also ask for references from current residents’ families and consult licensing inspection reports.

Guidance for prospective families Given the mixed but polarized feedback, an in-person, structured evaluation is essential. During a visit, inspect several apartments, observe common areas (including cleanliness and odors), meet direct caregivers and nursing staff, ask to see sample menus and activity calendars, and inquire about housekeeping schedules. Explicitly ask management for written policies on medication administration, incident reporting, billing and refunds, handling of difficult behavior, and resident discharge/eviction procedures. If clinical safety is a priority, request details on nurse staffing levels, turnover rates, recent incidents, and corrective actions taken after problems. Finally, seek out references from current residents’ families and review state inspection or complaint records to corroborate patterns seen in the reviews.

Bottom line CityView offers many strengths that appeal to families: strong frontline caregivers for many residents, attractive apartments and rooftop amenities, and active social programming. However, the reviews also contain recurring, serious allegations around medical neglect, medication errors, hygiene lapses, billing disputes, and administration that warrant careful vetting. The facility may be an excellent choice for some residents, particularly where the praised caregiving culture aligns with family expectations, but the noted risks make careful due diligence—focused on clinical oversight, incident history, and administrative transparency—especially important before committing.

    About CityView

CityView sits right next to Beverly Hills and Hollywood, so you get amazing views from its high-rise building and even a rooftop terrace where you can relax and look out over the city. The place has independent living, assisted living, and memory care for seniors who are at least 55, and you can find private studios or one-bedroom suites, some of them newly designed and furnished for comfort, as well as semi-private options if that fits better. In the memory care area known as The Court, they work with folks who have Alzheimer's or other memory loss, keeping things safe, supportive, and calm, with special help available all day and night. The staff at CityView includes licensed nurses plus visiting doctors, dentists, and podiatrists; they also have therapists on site for physical, occupational, and speech therapy needs, and you'll find homecare services if you need help with things like bathing, grooming, or medication, but assisted living doesn't mean you get full-time nursing. Residents can bring some pets with them, and the team understands how good pets are for seniors, especially those with memory challenges.

CityView has lots to keep people busy, so you'll see things like yoga and chair yoga classes, lectures, concerts from the resident music group, a gardening club, game nights, book discussions, and trips to places like the ArcLight or local restaurants such as El Coyote. There's a gym, recreation room, computer area, library, craft room, outdoor walking paths, patios, gardens, and indoor/outdoor spots to just sit in the sun and fresh air. Staff runs wellness programs aimed at health, and spa services and an on-site beauty salon and barbershop offer a bit of extra care. Around the building you'll see community dining rooms for shared mealtimes, but room service is also available; meals are cooked by chefs to suit different needs, including low-sodium and special diets, and the menu often includes food from around the world so things get switched up. Housekeeping and laundry are part of what's included, and there's dedicated help for residents who want VA benefits or need transportation: you get free rides to doctor appointments or outings, and there's on-site parking for those who drive.

The community supports aging in place thanks to in-house nursing, regular occupational therapy visits, rehab care, and medication management, and there's emergency alert systems and wheelchair access throughout. CityView's memory care and assisted living residents get help with daily tasks, escorting, reminding, and health monitoring. There's a special social day program and planned outings to help people stay active and engaged, and both male and female-only units are available to suit different preferences. Staff is always around, day and night, to help or respond in emergencies, and licensed by the state of California, CityView runs as a continuing care community-meaning they can support people through various changes in health or ability. They're also known for community celebrations, award-winning activities, access to WiFi and computers, and a friendly atmosphere where residents can build friendships and be part of a safe, comfortable neighborhood.
