    Clean, bright facility; inconsistent staffing

I found the facility bright, clean and well maintained with fresh linens and excellent on-site rehab - the nurses and therapists were caring, professional and attentive. However staffing was inconsistent: call responses were sometimes delayed, roommate disruptions and safety concerns weren't always handled promptly, and we had problems with missing meds/personal items and poor communication. Admissions/tour staff were helpful but insurance/price barriers and occasional office disorganization were frustrating. Overall Mom got good clinical care and I'd recommend the place cautiously - verify roommate assignment, inventory meds/belongings, and confirm payment/insurance upfront.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment in the reviews for Kennedy Care Center is mixed but centers around a clear polarization: many reviewers praise the facility, its rehabilitation services, and a large contingent of caring, attentive staff, while a smaller but vocal group reports serious problems with neglect, safety, theft, poor communication, and administrative errors. The strongest positive threads concern the hands-on caregiving and therapy teams, the facility's cleanliness and recent renovations, and the admissions/tour experience. Several reviewers named specific staff (Christina Brown, Jasmin, Liz, Irina, Jonna, Rosa) as helpful, compassionate, and informative. Multiple accounts note strong PT/OT resources, with at least one review citing 12–15 on-site therapists and good therapy spaces; others reported tangible rehab gains such as improved balance, regained abilities, and boosted confidence. Cleanliness consistently receives positive mention: fresh, stain-free linens, no offensive odors, a pleasant fragrance, and a generally well-kept environment are repeated across reviews.

Staffing and interpersonal care generate the most positive sentiment: many reviewers describe friendly, warm, and professional nurses and aides who relieve discomfort, treat wounds, and provide dignified daily care. The admissions process and tours are frequently described as welcoming and efficient, with extras like tour bags and 3D tours noted. Activities and social programming are praised, with residents enjoying pancakes in activity rooms, engaging programs, and a bright, attractive rec room. Amenities such as plentiful TV channels, nearby dining, and good physical therapy facilities add to the favorable impressions and contribute to family members recommending the center for short-term rehab and longer stays when needs are met.

However, the negative reports highlight significant and specific concerns that cannot be ignored. There are multiple allegations of neglectful behavior—particularly at night—ranging from delayed or ignored requests for assistance to extremely troubling accounts (e.g., a resident being forced to sleep in feces). Several reviews describe unresponsiveness or rudeness by staff, discriminatory or aggressive behavior, and instances where family's authority or POA status was reportedly ignored. Safety and roommate dynamics surfaced repeatedly: some residents experienced disruptive or abusive roommates and claimed staff refused relocation requests, creating an unsafe environment for vulnerable individuals.

Security and administrative issues appear in several reviews. There are reports of stolen valuables and missing medications (one review specifically mentioned being short 10 Lorazepam tablets), along with missing mattress pads and belongings not returned after discharge. Inventory records and paperwork mistakes were cited (an inaccurate inventory date, lost specimens, incomplete results, missing forms, and long delays to provide documents). A few reviewers accused management of withholding medical information or not providing access to medical records and raised concerns about profit-driven or heavy-handed admission/retention practices. These administrative lapses combine with reported staffing shortages and turnover to produce episodes of poor responsiveness and care gaps.

Dining and organization receive mixed feedback. A number of reviewers find the food poor or “awful,” though others said meals felt like home or that ordering in/nearby restaurants was an easy alternative. Organizational critiques include charge nurse or office staff being unhelpful in some instances, difficulties with the receptionist or being unable to get updates, and claims of dysfunctional coordination. Insurance and billing also came up for a few families as a barrier—one reviewer noted the facility is not accepting a specific policy (Blue Shield), creating stress around cost and access.

In sum, Kennedy Care Center appears to deliver high-quality rehabilitation and compassionate care frequently enough that many families recommend it; the facility’s cleanliness, therapy resources, and several standout staff members are reliable strengths. At the same time, there are recurrent and serious complaints regarding neglect, safety, theft of belongings, communication failures, and inconsistent staff performance. Prospective residents and families should weigh the strong rehabilitation and admission experience against the risk of administrative errors and episodes of poor or neglectful care. Practical steps based on the reviews: verify inventory and medication lists at admission and discharge, document and follow up on concerns immediately, clarify insurance coverage beforehand, and ask about staffing levels and roommate policies to reduce the likelihood of encountering the more severe issues reported by some reviewers.

    About Kennedy Care Center

Kennedy Care Center sits on Fairfax Ave. in Los Angeles, CA, and serves as a skilled nursing and rehabilitation facility for seniors who need different kinds of help, whether that's assisted living, dementia care, memory care facilities, hospice care, or even respite care for temporary stays, and they provide senior transportation too, which helps folks get to appointments or outings without worrying about driving themselves. The center keeps skilled nurses available all day and night, seven days a week, and many of them work with a team of licensed experts who offer round-the-clock care and answer questions so families can understand the services and feel a bit more secure. They've recently renovated the building, and you'll find large courtyards, common rooms where families can gather, and even a spacious, high-tech rehab gym staffed by experts who guide seniors through physical, occupational, and speech therapy, since a lot of people need different kinds of rehabilitation as they get older, and the therapy spaces are made to fit that need.

The facility has podiatry and dental services on site, as well as diagnostic x-ray services and a clinical laboratory to manage tests and check on health, and there's dietary support for folks who need help with meals. The administrative staff aims to keep the place running smoothly and supports families as much as possible, while caregivers must follow safety laws and keep a certain ratio between staff and residents, with routine health inspections to check on things, so families don't have to worry as much about care standards. Kennedy Care Center also tries to support the social side of living, setting up activities to make the days a little brighter and help residents stay connected. They offer virtual photo tours for anyone interested, and the focus across everything is simple: put patient needs first, stay centered on healing and wellness, and create a place where both seniors and their loved ones feel welcome, even if life brings along some bumps and changes as folks age.
