    Loving professional attentive memory care

I placed my mother in their memory-care private room for 6½ years and we were very pleased. The staff were loving, professional and attentive - Aaron even sat with my aunt at the hospital - and communication with med-techs and caregivers was excellent. The facility is bright, clean and home-like with private rooms, good meals, engaging activities, church services and true friendships; resources and assistance were always available. I treasured the relationships she made and enjoyed every moment; there's always room to fine-tune, but I felt she received the best possible care.

    Summary of reviews

Overall impression: Reviews convey a facility with many strengths in everyday assisted-living operations: staff are frequently described as compassionate, patient, and knowledgeable, and families commonly highlight close, relationship-oriented care. The physical environment is repeatedly noted as clean, bright, and well laid out, with private, spacious rooms and a non-crowded dining area that residents and families find comfortable. The facility appears to offer a dedicated memory-care neighborhood and a broad activities program — including crafts, music, cooking, games, and church services — that supports social engagement and a home-like atmosphere.

Care and staff: Most feedback emphasizes positive caregiving relationships and professional communication from med-techs and caregivers. Reviewers praise individualized attention, staff kindness, and long-term rapport with residents; several comments reflect long stays where families felt the resident was well cared for. At the same time, there are serious operational concerns raised about clinical responsiveness in critical situations. These concerns center on delays or failures to attend promptly to urgent comfort needs and on inadequate family notification during emergent or end-of-life events. Those issues suggest gaps in how the facility manages high-acuity episodes and communicates with families during crises, rather than a uniform pattern across routine care.

Dining and activities: Dining is generally viewed positively — meals are described as enjoyable, and the dining spaces are open, not crowded, and conducive to socializing. Programming appears active and varied, with regular offerings (newsletters, crafts, music, cooking, church services, and games) that support friendships and engagement. Families and residents frequently report quick adjustment to the activity schedule and satisfaction with social opportunities.

Facilities and environment: The facility is characterized as new or recently updated, clean, and home-like. Private rooms and a well-laid-out common space receive consistent positive mention. The memory-care section is available and appears to be integrated into the community model. The Christian affiliation is noted as part of the culture but is described by reviewers as inclusive rather than coercive.

Management and notable patterns: While many reviewers highlight strong routine communication and attentive staff, there is a contrasting pattern of concerns when care needs escalate. Key operational weaknesses inferred from reviews include inconsistent responsiveness during urgent or end-of-life situations, lapses in family notification and emergency-contact procedures, and inconsistencies in basic comfort-care protocols (for example, hydration and pain management during critical events). Some comments also point to staff fatigue or workload pressures that can affect consistency, and to potential mismatches between resident needs and placement decisions.

Practical considerations for prospective families: Visitors and decision-makers should observe staff–resident interactions during a tour, ask for specifics about staffing levels and on-shift clinical coverage, and request written policies on emergency notification, end-of-life care, and hydration/comfort protocols. Ask how the community assesses and documents appropriate level-of-care placement and how management follows up on clinical concerns. Request references from current or recent families and confirm what communication tools (newsletters, updates, or point-of-contact staff) will be used for day-to-day and critical-event communication.

In summary, Westhaven appears to provide a warm, clean, and activity-rich assisted-living environment with many families experiencing consistently attentive, relationship-focused care. However, there are important operational areas to clarify before placement—most notably emergency/end-of-life responsiveness and family-notification procedures—so prospective residents and their families should discuss these protocols directly with management during the evaluation process.

    About Westhaven Assisted Living

Westhaven Assisted Living sits in a quiet spot in Orland, California, right on a nine-acre campus, just a short drive from Chico, in a part of Northern California that still feels rural and peaceful, which seems to suit people who like some space and fresh air and maybe enjoy watching the gardens or birds in the outdoor common spaces, gardens, walking paths, or just looking out from the large private rooms since every room comes with its own view and an accessible shower. People who move to Westhaven can pick from independent living, assisted living, or memory care, and there's even special senior housing at The Village at WestHaven and high-needs options at The Neighborhoods at WestHaven, both of which are licensed by the state, with Westhaven itself supporting up to 42 residents. Folks talk about the warm, clean, and cheerful place west of the city, where the staff show real kindness, patience, and dedication, whether that's the med techs, front office, housekeeping, or care staff, all working to help each person keep their dignity, pride, and individuality, which is a big deal to many families who've said the communication by phone or letter is excellent and reassuring. Westhaven has a clear Christian focus, offering prayer, Bible studies, and church services if that's important to anyone, but you can also just join friends for chef-prepared meals that consider all sorts of dietary needs, from vegetarian and kosher to allergy-sensitive, and you get to eat in a big community dining room or pick something different all day long if you like variety.

The campus feels safe and friendly, with a 24-hour emergency system, regular housekeeping, laundry, move-in help, daily living assistance, medication help, and even incontinence or diabetic care, and the staff use a personal approach so you can get just the support you need for bathing, dressing, or anything else, right down to healthcare coordination. People come with their pets-the rules let you have a dog or cat, and there's pet care if you need a hand-plus there's transportation services and parking, so getting out for trips to town, appointments, or just social rides is simple. Common rooms, family-approved for their size and setup, are places for table games, movie nights, or arts and crafts, and you'll see folks running some activities on their own, reading in the library, visiting the salon or barber, or working in the community garden, so there's always something to do, on top of the regular scheduled programs, devotional time, or outings off site.

Westhaven Assisted Living is part of CiminoCare, a group that's got more places like this across the Bay Area, Sacramento, and the North Valley, but each place-including this one-works hard to keep the sense of local community. The environment's built so everyone has privacy and value, yes, but the focus is on support, affordable care, and Christian values, whether you're in need of memory care, nursing care, or more independent living. With robust services, furnished rooms, accessibility, special diets, and staff always ready to help, families hear clear updates about their loved ones and know staff care deeply and act with respect. Westhaven accepts residents with many different needs, does background checks and licensing properly, and keeps the facility, programs, and grounds well-maintained. Some things might change from time to time, like exact activities or program names, but the core of the place stays steady-kindness, community, and options for each individual.
