    Nice staff, but safety issues

I had a mixed stay. The staff and administrator were very nice, caring, understanding and the building was clean - visiting felt pleasant and better than my previous facility. However I observed and heard disturbing safety issues: suspicious door-knocking, rumors of drugs, theft and abuse, predatory staff/residents, wandering adults and neighborhood disturbances that made me fear for children and elders. I treated this as a temporary stay and am moving back to Phoenix; I can't recommend it for anyone worried about safety.

    Summary review

The reviews present a mixed but sharply divided picture of Sunland Manor. On the positive side, multiple reviewers emphasize the quality of direct care—staff are repeatedly described as caring, understanding, and nice. The administrator is singled out as patient and devoted, and several reviewers report positive, trusting relationships with staff. The physical facility itself is described as clean, and visits are characterized as pleasant. A few reviewers explicitly state they felt the environment was safe, and at least one account frames Sunland Manor as an improvement over a previous facility or suitable for a temporary stay.

However, a substantial and serious set of safety-related concerns recurs across other reviews. Several summaries allege suspicious activity: a man reportedly knocked on doors claiming to be from Sunland Adult Manor Residential Care, raising alarm about door-to-door solicitations or misrepresentation. Reviewers cite neighborhood disturbances, wandering adults near the property, and an atmosphere that can feel unsafe—some comments explicitly state fear for children and elderly residents. There are also reports or suspicions of criminal activity including drugs and theft. More alarming are mentions of suspected sexual abuse and rumors of predatory staff or residents. These reports are serious in nature and contribute to an overall perception among some reviewers that the environment is unsafe.

Taken together, the pattern is one of starkly divergent experiences: many praise interpersonal care and facility cleanliness, while others report serious safety and security concerns that overshadow those positives. The reviews do not provide detailed incident reports or corroborating specifics for every allegation, so the content ranges from direct observations (e.g., a suspicious door-knocking incident, visible wandering individuals) to reports framed as rumors (e.g., predatory staff or sexual abuse). This mix of firsthand impressions and secondhand claims makes it difficult to assess the prevalence or exact nature of the most serious allegations from these summaries alone.

There is a notable tension around management and oversight. Although the administrator receives praise for being patient and devoted—indicating positive leadership and relational strengths—some safety-related complaints imply either insufficient security protocols or problems with monitoring and incident response. The coexistence of devoted staff and troubling safety reports suggests that direct-care interactions may be warm and competent while systemic issues (security, neighborhood risks, or staff vetting) may be under-addressed or unevenly managed.

The reviews do not include information about certain operational areas such as dining quality, specific activities and programming, staff-to-resident ratios, formal incident logs, or responses from facility leadership to complaints. Absent that information, a prospective family or resident should weigh both sets of signals: strong personal care and a clean environment versus serious allegations about safety and criminal activity nearby. It would be prudent to verify security measures (controlled access, visitor protocols), background check practices, incident-reporting procedures, and to request references or speak with multiple families. Visiting the facility multiple times at different hours and asking management directly about the specific concerns noted in reviews can help clarify whether the positive caregiving environment coexists with effective safety and oversight.

In summary, Sunland Manor is described by many reviewers as having warm, attentive staff and a clean, pleasant facility, but several other reviewers raise significant safety and security concerns—including suspicious individuals, theft, drugs, and allegations of sexual misconduct—that materially affect overall trust. The pattern suggests a facility with commendable caregiving strengths but potential vulnerabilities in security or neighborhood risk that deserve careful investigation before making placement decisions.

    About Sunland Manor

Sunland Manor sits in Sunland, California, as a licensed adult residential facility with approval from the California Department of Social Services, and it's got 98 licensed beds for seniors or adults needing care with conditions like developmental disabilities, mental health needs, or physical disabilities, sometimes for people even as young as 18 but mostly older adults, and you see a helpful, friendly staff there that keeps the family-like atmosphere so people feel comfortable and safe. The building has several amenities which might include common spaces like a reading room, indoor garden areas, places for games or movies, and even things like a steam room or hot tub--though no guaranteed list, as these could change, but people tend to find areas to gather, relax, or join programs like music, animal therapy, board games, creative events, or outdoor activities when the weather's right. Residents get three homemade meals each day that the staff can tailor for people with health needs like diabetes or high blood pressure, and meals aim to support people's enjoyment and health since nutrition gets more important as years go on. The staff also helps residents bathe, dress, or handle medications if someone needs extra help, and people can get assistance with incontinence care or special medical monitoring with help from onsite nurses or outside home health providers for more advanced needs like skilled nursing or hospice care.

Sunland Manor supports a lot of activity throughout the week, so you might find scheduled programs including fitness, regular movie nights, music, and social gatherings, all aiming to keep people engaged--and they do offer transportation for medical appointments, faith-based activities, or errands, which helps when someone cannot drive anymore. Community spaces and safe parking make it easier for families to visit, and there's a regular offering of devotional programs and both on-site and off-site outings that help connect people mentally, socially, and emotionally so that life doesn't feel so small or lonely. Sunland Manor doesn't accept Medicare unless certified through Medicare, so that's something to consider for payment. The staff's shown to keep things running smoothly, with no citations reported in the last five years, probably because they take pride in doing things the right way every day. The community covers assisted living care, hospice, respite care, memory care, and residential care home services, all inside a fully furnished site, and though there isn't a clear, unique signature that makes Sunland Manor stand out from every other place, people tend to notice the steady care and focus on a peaceful life for residents, with Aryeh Rosner as a principal contact name connected to the place, and those small daily routines carried out with kindness matter quite a bit to those living there.
