    Compassionate staff helped me recover

I had a very positive stay-staff were consistently friendly, welcoming and compassionate, nursing care was excellent, and the PT/OT team helped me regain skills to return home. The facility felt clean and freshly updated, admission was easy, and the vegetarian meals were a nice touch. I'm grateful to the whole team and would highly recommend returning here if needed.

    Summary of reviews

The review set paints a mixed picture of care at this facility, with clear strengths in therapy and nursing but persistent operational weaknesses that families should evaluate closely. On the positive side, many accounts highlight strong physical and occupational therapy programs that contributed to successful rehabilitation and discharge home. Nursing and caregiving staff are frequently described as compassionate, supportive, and helpful; several families praised admission staff, therapy teams, and the facility's ability to provide respectful end-of-life support. Recent updates to floors and paint were mentioned alongside descriptions of generally clean, well-maintained areas in some parts of the building.

Conversely, a number of recurring operational concerns emerge. Communication systems — especially phone responsiveness and administrative follow-through — are commonly characterized as unreliable, complicating family interactions and care coordination. Staffing levels appear inconsistent, and reviewers pointed to delays in attending to personal-care needs, including incontinence-care and bathing schedules. Safety practices around transfers and fall-prevention also showed gaps in several descriptions, and there were instances implying problems with medication handling and discharge prescription management.

Environmental and infection-control issues are another notable pattern. Some accounts describe sanitation and odor concerns, worn furnishings and finishes, and pest-control problems in parts of the facility; these concerns coexist with reports of recently renovated areas, suggesting variability by unit. There are also mentions of lapses in infection-control behaviors. Dining quality and food-safety practices received mixed feedback, ranging from accommodating dietary options (including vegetarian choices) to isolated food-safety incidents that warrant follow-up. Facility equipment such as beds and room furniture were repeatedly identified as needing maintenance or replacement.

Management and culture-related themes run through the feedback. Reviewers describe variability in staff professionalism and conduct — from highly compassionate employees to individuals whose communication style was perceived as brusque — and some families expressed concerns about administrative accountability and financial transparency. There are indications of a mismatch between marketing materials and on-site conditions in certain cases, which contributes to uneven expectations.

Practical takeaway: prospective residents and families encountering this facility should weigh the strong rehabilitation and nursing resources against the operational inconsistencies documented in communications, staffing, safety, and environmental maintenance. A focused tour and direct questions are advisable: ask about current staffing ratios, fall-prevention protocols, medication-discharge procedures, infection-control policies (including PPE practices), recent pest-control and housekeeping measures, menu samples and food-safety procedures, and any recent regulatory citations or corrective actions. These targeted inquiries will help clarify whether the facility's strengths align with an individual resident's needs and whether the noted weaknesses have been addressed.

    About Redwood Cove Healthcare Center

Redwood Cove Healthcare Center sits at 1162 South Dora Street in Ukiah, California, and folks know it for its skilled nursing care and for looking after people with serious medical needs, especially those coming out of the hospital or needing help after surgery or illness, and they've got staff on hand to help with medication management and all sorts of daily living activities like bathing, dressing, and moving around, which means those who can't walk or get out of bed on their own get help with transfers, and there's always round-the-clock supervision with a call system if residents need anything, plus they have certified staff available for 12 to 16 hours each day, so help's close at hand if something comes up, and they accept both Medicare and Medicaid for those worrying about how to pay for care, and as of June 2025, out of their 68 certified beds, usually about four beds are open, as they see close to 63 people daily on average who stay in private or shared suites equipped with air conditioning, cable TV, Wi-Fi, emergency alert systems, and private bathrooms, and meals are cooked onsite by a professional chef with attention to allergies and special diets, especially for those who need diabetic meals or have allergies, with restaurant-style dining and snacks offered throughout the day.

There's a big focus on both long-term care and short-term rehab, so people who need to get back on their feet can use the well-equipped rehab gym where licensed therapists run physical, occupational, speech, and respiratory therapies, and the staff follows the care plan that the resident's doctor sets, and the team works seven days a week on keeping daily activities going, like movie nights, music programs, arts and game rooms, community and resident-led activities, and walks outside on paths or in the garden since the place has outdoor spaces and organized outdoor programs to help everyone stay active socially or just get some fresh air.

Redwood Cove Healthcare Center belongs to Providence Group NH, LLC, and Pacs Group is affiliated, with Riley Tucker handling management since February 2022, and while the caregiving staff puts in about 3.37 nurse hours per resident per day, the home's had some inspection reports that found issues with infection control, resident assessments, and pharmacy services, so it's not perfect, but over time, resident and family councils try to work on any concerns and improve care, since the place wants folks to feel at home and safe. The building's run as a for-profit limited liability company and has support staff who help with housekeeping, laundry or dry cleaning, concierge services, transportation, and parking, and the front desk is staffed most days from early morning to evening, while admissions support is available anytime, day or night. Social services help families and residents plan for going home or getting connected to outside support, so transitions are a bit easier.

Suites and showers are set up to be safe and comfortable, and those who need extra help with things like transfers or have trouble walking aren't left alone, and the facility uses emergency alert systems throughout. Redwood Cove Healthcare Center's whole aim is to offer steady, professional care and work with residents and families to support everyone's health and happiness as best as possible, with attention to comfort and personal needs.
