    Immaculate community with compassionate care

My mom moved into this beautiful, immaculately kept community and I couldn't be more pleased. The staff are caring and low-turnover, communication is clear, meals are delicious, housekeeping is excellent, and the activities and lovely grounds give her real engagement and peace of mind - memory-care has been compassionate and person-centered. I happily recommend this community to families seeking strong care and a warm, active environment.

    Summary of reviews

Overall impression: Varenita of Westlake is generally described as a well-appointed, family-oriented community with a clear emphasis on memory-care and person-centered attention. Reviewers frequently highlight compassionate staff, strong family communication, and an engaging activities program. The physical environment receives consistent praise for cleanliness, tasteful decor, landscaped grounds, and a luxury-like presentation that many families find reassuring.

Care quality and staff: Many accounts emphasize individualized memory-care expertise, empathetic bedside manner, and staff who engage residents with patience and warmth. Families cite strong housekeeping and low turnover in many periods, which supports continuity of care. That said, reviewers also describe episodic deficiencies: short-lived caregiver performance lapses, inconsistent follow-through on assigned care tasks, and concerns about medication-technical coverage. There are also statements about variability in staff professionalism and workplace communication that can affect the resident experience. These items suggest the overall care culture is strong but subject to operational gaps at times.

Dining and activities: Dining is frequently praised — reviewers mention delicious meals, special-event dining (for example holiday dinners), and an overall positive culinary experience. The activity and enrichment program is a recurrent strength, with family participation encouraged and a wide range of resident engagement opportunities. These elements contribute to perceived quality of life and social connection for residents.

Facilities and amenities: The community’s physical plant is a consistent positive. Interiors are described as immaculate and tastefully decorated, grounds are attractive and well maintained, and practical amenities such as an on-site salon and clean resident rooms receive positive mention. Housekeeping and room cleanliness are repeatedly noted as strengths.

Management and notable patterns: Leadership and owner support are identified as strengths in many comments, with specific leaders named positively. However, several reviewers referenced an administrative transition to new management (Sunrise) and associated changes. Post-transition items include staffing losses, declines in certain operational areas (food and caregiving continuity), and the temporary absence of a memory-care director that requires interim hiring. These observations point to a pattern in which the community’s baseline strengths can be affected by management changes and staffing instability.

Bottom line for families: The facility presents many assets—compassionate, person-centered memory care; a vibrant activities program; attractive, clean facilities; and generally strong dining and housekeeping. Prospective residents and families would be prudent to discuss current staffing levels and turnover, memory-care leadership coverage, medication-technical staffing, and any recent changes to dining or admissions processes to understand how recent transitions may be affecting day-to-day operations.

The community also has independent living services, skilled nursing, and hospice care, along with active adult living, home care, and adult day services so residents can get the care they need at different stages. There's a focus on helping older adults stay as independent as possible while also receiving help with things like bathing, dressing, and taking medicines.

The apartments here come in studio, one-bedroom, two-bedroom, and suite layouts, all with full kitchens, spa-like bathrooms, and laundry options. The building has lots of natural light with glass walls and is surrounded by nice landscaping, courtyards, and water features. Residents can use shared spaces like a bar, bistro, art studio, courtyard, fitness center, and have access to an electric charging station and interior common areas where people gather during the day. The team here is made up of trained senior living professionals, with management led by Customer Service and a Manager, and people tend to stay on staff, which makes things feel steady and familiar for residents.

Varenita of Westlake is known for its Valeo™ memory care program for people with memory loss, such as Alzheimer's disease. Care plans are tailored for each person, whether they're in assisted living or memory care. The approach is holistic, so they're paying attention to the mind, body, and daily well-being of each resident, offering therapies and activities meant to enrich daily life and give families peace of mind. Residents and their families can participate in activities, and the community offers various dining rooms with chef-prepared meals using seasonal ingredients. The place is designed to help seniors age in place, with options if care needs change over time. There's plenty of attention to regular housekeeping, and there's always staff on hand to help if anything comes up.

Varenita of Westlake holds an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau, though it's not BBB accredited, and currently has a community score of 9.2 out of 10. The facility keeps a boutique style and modern design meant to feel warm and comfortable.
