    Warm, attentive care; staffing concerns

I placed my mother here and overall I'm pleased. The staff are warm, attentive and communicative-helpful with bathing/dressing, one-on-one care, Spanish-speakers and even moving furniture-and the dining is generally excellent. The community is clean, cheerful and family-inclusive, but remodeling and COVID rules have limited activities and visiting at times. I've seen understaffing, turnover and slow call responses (a couple of falls concerned me), and management follow-through can be uneven. It's on the pricey side but gives peace of mind; I'd recommend it while checking current staffing, memory-care outings and the renovation timeline.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment: Reviews of La Posada Assisted Living and Memory Care are mixed but lean toward positive for many families, with frequent praise for the direct caregiving staff, dining, and the intimate, family-like atmosphere. Many reviewers emphasize compassionate, attentive caregivers, chef-prepared meals, clean and recently remodeled spaces, and strong personal touches that make residents and families feel welcome. Numerous endorsements and "highly recommended" comments indicate that for a sizable number of residents the community provides good value, safety, and reliable day-to-day support.

Care quality and staff: The strongest recurring theme is the quality of direct care staff. Multiple reviewers describe caregivers as kind, loving, respectful, and highly skilled—providing dignified assistance with ADLs, medication, and one-on-one attention when needed. These positive reports also include examples of staff going out of their way to learn residents and involve families. However, this strength is counterbalanced by repeated reports of understaffing, high turnover, and staff feeling overworked. Those operational pressures are linked to slower call-button responses, occasional lapses in follow-through, inconsistent staff training, and situations where two-person assistance or timely help was not always available. There are also isolated but serious allegations (falls, theft concerns, rude staff, staff talking loudly about residents) that potential families should explore directly.

Management and communication: Reviews show a wide range of experiences with management — some families praise proactive communication (postcards, updates, responsive owners) and an administration willing to listen, while others report difficulty reaching administrative staff, slow callbacks, confusion about visiting hours, and poor follow-through. Several reviews note leadership changes (administrators leaving, change of ownership), which correspond with variability in how smoothly operations run. In short, management consistency appears to be a key determinant of a family’s experience at La Posada: when leadership is engaged and communicative, families are highly satisfied; when it is not, complaints increase.

Facilities and maintenance: The facility is often described as clean, well-lit, attractively decorated, and recently remodeled in places (dining room, theater). Many reviewers appreciate spacious apartments, ample parking, and a comfortable physical environment. However, maintenance issues have been reported, including an elevator outage that affected mobility and room relocations during remodeling with delayed move-back. These disruptions and the handling of remodeling logistics generated frustration for some families.

Dining and housekeeping: Dining is one of the community’s most consistent strengths. Multiple reviewers call the food excellent or fabulous, praising chef-prepared meals, variety, and how much their loved ones enjoy dining. At the same time, there are complaints about food delivery issues (meals arriving cold), inconsistent accommodation of menu requests, and isolated complaints about salty food. Housekeeping reviews are mixed: while many note cleanliness and good housekeeping, others point to hygiene concerns, dwindling supplies, unsanitary cleaning practices, and missing personal items (dentures, hearing aids). These inconsistencies suggest variable execution in laundry, inventory, and room care.

Activities and memory care: Activity offerings receive mixed marks. Several reviewers commend a robust activities program and social events, and some highlight social engagement improvements and family-involved events. Conversely, a number of reviews mention limited activities for memory care residents, minimal outings, small activity spaces, and reduced socialization during COVID quarantines. Memory care quality is described as excellent by some reviewers and poorly run by others — indicating variation in experience that may depend on staffing levels, leadership, and the specific needs of a resident.

Safety and clinical concerns: While many families felt safe with staff oversight, some reviews raise important safety concerns: reports of falls, inadequate assistance for residents requiring two-person help, theft allegations, and at least one claim of no on-site nurse (contradicted by other reviewers who report excellent nursing care). These discrepancies point to inconsistent clinical coverage or differing expectations; prospective families should verify nurse availability, staffing ratios, and incident/medication protocols during a tour.

COVID impact and housekeeping of outbreaks: COVID-19 affected the community’s activity levels and visitation policies, with several reviewers noting quarantines, suspended social activities, and families being kept updated about cases. While some families appreciated the community’s adherence to regulations and communication, others felt isolation and interruption of social programming during outbreaks.

Patterns and recommendations for prospective families: The reviews show strong positives (warm/direct caregiving staff, excellent dining, welcoming community, recent renovations) alongside recurring operational weaknesses (staffing shortages, turnover, managerial inconsistency, housekeeping lapses, and occasional safety or clinical gaps). Notably, experiences vary substantially between reviewers: some report exceptional, loving care and strong management; others report troubling operational and safety problems. This variability suggests that the community can provide excellent care under the right conditions (adequate staffing, engaged management) but that those conditions are not uniformly present.

If you are considering La Posada, visit in person multiple times at different times of day, talk to current residents and families, and ask specific questions: current staffing ratios and turnover, whether a nurse is on-site and clinical coverage hours, average response time to call buttons, protocols for two-person assistance, housekeeping and inventory controls, how memory care programming and outings are structured, how COVID outbreaks are handled, and details about any ongoing remodeling and its timeline. Confirm administrative responsiveness and whether ownership or leadership changes are planned or recent. These targeted inquiries will help you determine whether the aspects praised by many families (food, caring caregivers, intimate community) align with the operational stability you require.
