    Caring staff clean engaging activities

I toured the place and moved my mom in - the staff are patient, caring and consistently helpful. The building is spotless with nicely finished, carpeted private rooms you can furnish and an individual TV. Dining is pleasant (we liked breakfast) and there's a full slate of activities and outings - art, music, exercise, trivia, movie nights and regular field trips - so she's much happier and social. Convenient pickup/car service and family-friendly policies seal it as a solid choice.

    Summary of reviews

Woodland Hills Retirement Home presents as a clean, well-kept community with a visible emphasis on social programming and family engagement. Common areas and apartments are frequently described as tidy and attractively finished, and the facility projects a boutique-style atmosphere in several shared spaces. Private rooms, the ability to bring personal furniture, and in-room televisions are recurring positives that support resident comfort and personalization.

Care and staffing are among the facility's stronger attributes. Staff are described as polite, patient and caring; families report staff who spend time with residents and foster social connections. Many accounts indicate residents become more social and content after moving in, and staff responsiveness to visits and resident needs is presented as a consistent strength. That said, some operational policies around basic personal care (for example, a weekly shower standard with additional charges for increased frequency) suggest limits on what is included in base fees.

Dining receives mixed assessments. Several reviewers praised fresh, healthy options and a pleasant dining room with multiple meal sessions, while others found specific menu items or meal periods less satisfactory. Overall, the dining program appears serviceable but inconsistent in meeting every resident's preferences; families who prioritize menu variety or particular cuisines may want to sample meals during a visit and ask about menu cycles and customization options.

Activities and social life are frequently highlighted: onsite programming such as arts and crafts, exercise classes, music, dance, trivia, card and board games, bingo, and movie nights is commonly offered. Transportation and organized outings are available, including offsite lunch trips, although many of these outings carry additional costs. There is some variability in how residents experience activities—some describe a busy calendar, while others perceived limited offerings—indicating program intensity may differ by unit, staffing, or scheduling.

Facility characteristics and location balance positives and trade-offs. The building is described as older but well maintained; finishes in common areas are attractive, yet some private rooms are noted as small. The community sits in a pleasant, affluent area but is adjacent to a busy road, which raises occasional noise and traffic-safety considerations. Apartment options can be limited, so prospective residents should verify unit sizes and layouts during tours.

Cost and management patterns are a notable consideration. Several comments point to a relatively high price point and a business model that applies extra charges for services and outings that families may expect to be included. Prospective residents and families should obtain a clear, itemized fee schedule and ask specifically which personal-care services and social outings are included in the base rate versus which incur additional fees.

In summary, Woodland Hills is likely to be a good fit for families who prioritize a clean, social environment with attentive caregiving staff and a culturally active community. Those who are particularly sensitive to meal preferences, need frequent personal-care services included without extra fees, or require larger private units should confirm operational details and cost inclusions before committing.
