    Caring professional staff; mom happy

I placed my mom here and I'm very grateful - the staff are kind, professional and genuinely attentive, with excellent communication and a clear rehab focus. The facility is clean, cozy and well-kept (recent bathroom updates), pet-friendly and offers engaging activities and music visits. Teresa and Elizabeth at reception and the nursing team have been welcoming and trustworthy; my mom is happy and well cared for.

    Summary of reviews

This facility elicits sharply polarized impressions. Many families and residents praise the human side of care: nurses and caregivers are frequently described as compassionate, attentive, and willing to go beyond expectations; several reviewers highlighted strong interpersonal support from front-desk personnel and social-work staff who assisted with belongings and benefits. Physical therapy is often singled out as a strength when it is present, with thorough assessments and focused rehab plans that contributed to measurable gains for some residents. Common areas are generally described as clean and comfortable, with some reviewers valuing a home-like, B&B-style atmosphere, pet-friendly policies, and active programming such as music visits.

Conversely, a consistent cluster of operational concerns appears across accounts. Response times to call buttons and alarms are a recurrent issue, as are delays in medication administration and pain control; these issues indicate weaknesses in clinical responsiveness and alarm-management processes. Several comments point to inconsistencies in rehabilitation outcomes and therapy follow-through, suggesting variability in clinical staffing or program delivery. Reviewers also raised sanitation and food-safety concerns related to kitchen practices and odors in common areas, paired with limited meal variety and inadequate diabetic/low-carbohydrate options.

Staff behavior and management communication are additional areas of mixed performance. While many describe caregivers as caring and professional, there are repeated accounts of poor conduct or rough communication style from some employees and supervisors, which families found distressing. Administrative follow-up, billing accuracy, and responsiveness from office personnel and leadership are described as uneven; issues include delayed responses to complaints, billing errors, and instances of abrupt discharge or insufficient discharge coordination. Language barriers and staffing shortages were also mentioned as operational constraints that can impair day-to-day consistency.

The physical plant shows both positives and limitations: reviewers commonly note that the facility is older but generally clean and undergoing remodeling in places. At the same time, aging infrastructure concerns such as water damage, limited air-conditioning in patient areas, and heating/maintenance issues were reported. Infection-control and wound-care follow-through were cited in several critical accounts, along with at least one instance of a larger infection-outbreak being described, raising concerns about clinical oversight and infection prevention practices.

In summary, prospective residents and families considering this community should weigh a mixed profile: there is considerable evidence of caring, capable staff and effective therapy for many residents, and the facility can provide a comfortable, well-kept communal environment. However, persistent operational weaknesses — especially inconsistent responsiveness, medication and wound-care follow-up, sanitation and dietary accommodations, staff-conduct issues, and administrative communication gaps — suggest the need for close questions at tour time about staffing levels, call-response metrics, dietary planning for special needs, infection-control practices, and procedures for family communication and discharge planning.

About Highland Park Rehabilitation and Care Community

Highland Park Rehabilitation and Care Community sits in Aurora, Colorado, in a neighborhood you can walk around a bit, close to parks, restaurants, pharmacies, hospitals, and places of worship, and the spot's under a half hour from Denver International Airport, so it's pretty easy to get to by main roads, and it's managed by Sweetwater CHCA and is a part of the group Vivage, following the Eden Alternative model for care. Folks will find both semi-private and private rooms, along with floor plans to choose from depending on what suits them, and there are different levels of care, including skilled nursing, rehabilitation, long-term care, independent living, assisted living, memory care, Alzheimer's care, as well as respite care for short-term stays, so residents with a wide range of needs could probably find something that matches their situation. The facility is also ready to take care of people who need intermediate or skilled nursing or even inpatient rehabilitation for those moving between the hospital and home, and they've got post-hospitalization care, MS and neurological disorders care, and care for behavioral health as well as special services for the Hispanic community.

Therapy is available if a resident's physician asks for it, including physical, occupational, speech, and respiratory therapy. There's always a nurse on staff 24/7, and care staff are around all day and night, offering help, comfort, and specialized attention. Folks that may need extra safety measures, such as for memory or dementia concerns, will find a secure memory care neighborhood with Wander Guard, and the place handles care management, consulting, compliance services, and social services for those who need them. Highland Park offers several amenities, like a beauty and barber shop, activity programs, a snack shop, wireless internet, a resident store, in-room dining, recreation and family dining rooms, as well as outdoor courtyards for some fresh air-there's always something to help fill the day. They've got both private and semi-private rooms, some with outdoor views. Residents get activity programs and life enhancement programs, plus recreation rooms, and there are also special tools and educational resources like blogs, eBooks, white papers, and more for both families and staff. Payment options vary, and the facility aims to match people with what they need at whatever stage they're in, trying to keep things as comfortable and safe as possible.
