    Warm caring staff excellent meals

My mom stayed here and we were very pleased - staff were warm, caring and professional, nurses and therapists helped improve mobility, meals were excellent with dietary accommodations, and activities kept residents engaged. The small, home-like setting and proactive, communicative management made the whole experience comforting; I would recommend it.

    Summary of reviews

Reviewer feedback for Garden of the Gods Care Center is mixed, with distinct strengths alongside recurring operational concerns. Positive comments emphasize a welcoming, home-like environment, friendly and personable staff, well-kept grounds, and generally favorable dining and activities. Several families highlighted effective placement assistance and helpful administrative guidance during admissions. Rehabilitation services receive consistent praise for improving mobility for some residents.

Care quality and staffing are the most polarized areas. Many reviewers describe dedicated, compassionate caregivers and supportive nurses; others describe variability in clinical skill, availability, and responsiveness. Commonly raised operational issues include inconsistent staffing coverage, slow responses to call bells or care requests, and delays in routine hygiene and incontinence care. There are specific concerns about the facilityโ€™s capacity to meet the needs of residents with memory-impairment conditionsโ€”reviewers indicate gaps in dementia-specific training and protocols. Families also reported uneven follow-through on home-evaluation recommendations and variability in nursing oversight.

Dining and activities are generally cited as strengths. Multiple reviewers enjoyed the food, activities such as daily bingo and weekly outings, and frequent social opportunities; at the same time some families asked for greater variety in menus. The facilityโ€™s physical environment is frequently described as clean, quaint, and well-maintained with pleasant outdoor areas and good natural light, though several reviews raised sanitation-related worries around dishwashing and utensil cleanliness.

Management and administrative experience is mixed. Some reviewers praised an accessible, informative business manager who provided placement support and benefits navigation. Counterbalancing that, others described delays in billing, slow administrative responses, and concerns about how complaints are handled. Safety and emergency preparedness were called out in multiple commentsโ€”examples include concerns about oxygen supply management, falls and related communication, and overall incident-notification practicesโ€”which suggest gaps in safety oversight and family communication after events.

In summary, Garden of the Gods demonstrates clear strengths in atmosphere, social programming, rehabilitation services, and portions of staff who are experienced and compassionate. However, prospective residents and families should be alert to variable staffing reliability, care-response times, hygiene-management and sanitation practices, dementia-care capability, and administrative processes such as billing and incident communication. When touring or evaluating the facility, consider asking specific questions about staffing ratios and schedules, dementia-training and protocols, call-bell response metrics, sanitation and food-service procedures, incident-notification policies, emergency-supply management, and the costs associated with private rooms to get a more complete sense of day-to-day operations.

About Garden of the Gods Care Center

Garden of the Gods Care Center sits in Colorado Springs and has served seniors since 1961. The center runs as a non-profit and offers a mix of care choices like assisted living, nursing home care, post-acute rehab, Alzheimer's and memory care, and even home care for those who want extra help while living at home. The building has 45 rooms, and the community's not so big that folks get lost in the crowd, but not so small that it feels shut in, and you'll find a steady 41 residents most of the time. It's fully sprinklered for safety, not in a hospital, and accepts both Medicare and Medicaid.

People can stay in private rehab rooms, and folks get access to 24-hour laundry services and Wi-Fi, which helps them stay connected with family, and for smokers, there's a patio outdoors. There's a beauty salon inside the building plus outdoor flower gardens, and restaurant-style dining with nutritious meals made with good ingredients. Residents take part in social programs, spiritual gatherings, and active community events that support their physical, mental, and emotional health. They run resident and family councils so everyone can share their ideas and concerns. The place offers wheelchair-accessible buses for outings, and it's close to hospitals, churches, shops, and other helpful places.

Specialized staff include RNs, LPNs, CNAs, therapists, and physicians. Nurses work around the clock, so there's always someone available, and they're trained for wound care, ortho and neuro rehab, mental health, and other complex issues like Alzheimer's or dementia. There's wander guard technology to keep safe those who may become confused and want to wander. They monitor things like pressure sores, weight, pain, depression, and handle therapy, depression screenings, and vaccinations for long-term residents.

Advice and planning services help seniors figure out their future care, and counselors talk with both families and residents. Onsite medical help covers dental, vision, and mental health needs, plus restorative care, and the staff pays attention to both physical well-being and the psychological side. The management team, led by Mr. Kay Stark, has a goal to keep standards high, and recent state and federal reports show zero fines, denials, or deficiencies-which is rare. The place is licensed, certified by Medicare and Medicaid, fully meets standards for safety, and is overseen by DORA. It's not a continuing care retirement community, but it does cover a wide range of senior needs from short-term rehab to long-term stays. Social, spiritual, and counseling support add to the care, and there's a focus on keeping things friendly and safe. Staff are known for being kind and helpful, and the facility's won awards for care, activities, and sense of community, which helps residents feel at home.
