    Large clean studio, caring staff

I moved into a large, clean studio (1-bedroom option) with a kitchenette and found the facility beautiful and easy to settle into. The food is excellent with a daily salad bar, staff are professional, caring and helpful, and activities - bingo, arts & crafts, music, outdoor games and church services - keep residents engaged. Wifi/landline included, pet-friendly, safe and family-like; overall a comfortable, well-maintained place I'd recommend.

    Summary of reviews

The Homestead at Montrose presents as a small, well-maintained assisted‑living community with a family-like atmosphere and several strong operational features. Many reviewers praised the physical environment — clean common areas, attractive rooms with recent carpeting, and functional HVAC — and noted the availability of private studio and one‑bedroom apartment layouts. Apartment amenities commonly cited as positives include an in-unit kitchenette with sink, refrigerator and microwave, plus included Wi‑Fi and a landline. The community also accommodates pets and offers a straightforward move-in process and positive short-term (respite) stays.

Frontline caregiving and hospitality functions are the facility's most frequently praised elements. Aides, kitchen staff and other direct-care workers were commonly described as attentive, patient and caring; families often highlighted the comfort of residents in their own apartments and the responsive nature of caregiving staff. At the same time, several families raised concerns about nursing leadership and communication tone, indicating inconsistency in supervisory conduct. These concerns, paired with references to elevated staff turnover, suggest potential impacts on continuity of care and family confidence in clinical oversight.

Dining and programming are prominent parts of community life. Many reviewers complimented the meals — including an available salad bar and a variety of appealing options — and called food a strength. Other reviewers gave less favorable ratings to meals, so dining satisfaction appears to be variable. The activities program is active and diverse when fully staffed, with offerings such as bingo, arts and crafts, music, outdoor games and religious services; hair and salon services are also available. That said, the activity schedule has been adjusted at times for infection-control reasons, and some reviewers perceived a reduction in frequency or scale of events during those periods.

Facility layout and common spaces support a small-community feel but also impose limits. Dining rooms and communal tables were described as small, and some families observed that not many residents were out and about during visits, which can affect the social dynamic for prospective residents who want constant, large-group engagement. In-apartment cooking capacity is limited (no stove), which is appropriate for many assisted‑living residents but worth noting for those who expect fuller kitchen functionality.

Overall, the Homestead at Montrose is frequently recommended for its caring frontline staff, clean environment, apartment-style living options, and active programming when available. Prospective residents and families should prioritize questions about nursing leadership and staff turnover, current activity schedules and contingency plans for infection-control periods, and specific meal options during tours. Requesting to meet the nursing leadership, reviewing staffing patterns, and sampling meals can help determine fit given the mix of strong daily caregiving and some variability in supervisory continuity and program frequency.

    About The Homestead at Montrose

The Homestead At Montrose sits in the mountains and offers both independent and assisted living, as well as memory care and skilled nursing for seniors who need different levels of daily help, and though people can choose private apartments in different floorplans, the grounds outside have paved walking paths, raised garden beds, and both open and covered patios where you can sit or walk, which is nice when the weather's good, and residents can take in peaceful mountain views and enjoy the manicured lawns. There's a dining room serving three home-cooked meals each day for assisted living, with snacks and guest meals available, and special diets like those for high blood pressure or diabetes can also be provided, plus chefs prepare the food, and there's an option for independent living residents to add meals to their basic one-meal plan. Housekeeping, laundry, and dry-cleaning come with assisted living and can be added for independent living, and residents can decorate their apartments the way they like. The Homestead At Montrose offers a range of daily activities-music therapy, animal therapy, games, fitness classes, crafts, movie nights, outings, and community events, and if you want religious services or a trip for shopping or to the doctor, staff can set up transportation and help people when needed. Inside you'll find rooms like a library, chapel, movie lounge, game and card area, exercise spaces, and places to sit with friends or family near a fireplace, and outside there are several patios with plenty of space to gather. Nursing staff, with a full-time RN and LPN, are on during business hours plus on-call nights and weekends, and there's a 24-hour call system and round-the-clock supervision; people get their medicines managed, and specialized help is available with bathing, dressing, transfers (even for two-person transfers), oxygen, personal reminders, and insulin, depending on what's needed, along with support for non-ambulatory seniors. Emergency call pendants and an alert system help folks stay safe, and the building is wheelchair accessible. There are beautician and barber services right on-site, with a mobile stylist, a spa, steam or wellness room, and a beauty salon, so you can keep up with hair appointments too. Pets are often welcome, and Wi-Fi is part of the amenities, making it easier to keep in touch. For residents with memory issues like Alzheimer's, there are secure memory care areas to support safety. The Homestead At Montrose is licensed for up to 70 residents by the Colorado Department of Social Services, and respite stays-short-term stays-are available for five days or more if there's room. There's also help managing medical appointments, monitoring vitals and wellness, and extra services like move-in coordination and concierge help. The community supports both people who want to stay independent and those who need more support, offering care plans that focus on keeping as much independence as possible, and there are lots of activities and entertainment for people each day, with regular visits by a chaplain and devotional services for spiritual needs.
