    Upscale community with outstanding staff

I moved my mom into this brand-new, beautifully appointed community and we're very pleased. Bright, roomy apartments with small kitchens, peaceful wooded grounds, and hotel-like amenities (movie theater, gym, salon, billiards, garden) make it feel upscale; dining is outstanding with flexible, restaurant-quality meals. The staff are warm, professional and truly helpful - the move was smooth and the activity program is lively and growing.

    Summary of reviews

The Residence at Selleck's Woods presents as a well-appointed, recently built community with many features that attract prospective residents and families. Review content consistently highlights the facility's resort-like atmosphere, attractive decor, bright apartments with kitchenettes, and a wooded, private setting. Dining is a clear strength: reviewers describe varied, high-quality meals with sit-down service, flexible menu options, and engaged dining leadership. The campus hosts numerous on-site amenities (salon, exercise room, game room, movie theater, garden) and offers onsite clinical services such as primary care, dental, podiatry, and therapy, which reviewers cite as convenient and valuable.

Staff and caregiving receive mixed but salient feedback. A large number of accounts praise warm, compassionate aides, nurses, and leadership who support smooth move-ins and personalized attention; families frequently mention staff going above and beyond during transitions. Conversely, there is a recurring pattern of variability in direct-care quality and staff attentiveness across shifts. Operational concerns identified include uneven staffing coverage (including comments about limited overnight clinical presence), lapses in medication timing and clinical oversight, and instances of inattentive conduct. These patterns suggest that while many residents receive attentive care, the reliability of that care can fluctuate depending on shift and individual staff training.

Programming and daily life are generally well developed: reviewers note robust social programming, frequent outings, live music, and a variety of activities and classes. At the same time, several families indicated that activity offerings for residents with higher cognitive or physical needs could be more consistent and frequent, and that memory-care services appear selectively applied — with admissions sometimes limited based on assessed care needs. Accessibility is another operational gap: reviewers mention a shortage of wheelchair-equipped units and incomplete in-apartment accessibility modifications, which limits options for residents who require more substantial mobility support.

Management and administrative practices elicited both praise and criticism. Some reviewers commend responsive administrators who assist with logistics and benefit paperwork and who facilitate pleasant community events. Other accounts point to shortcomings in communication about changes in care level, additional charges, and deposit/refund handling. There are also reports of coordination difficulties with third-party caregivers and examples of incident escalations that families felt were not handled clearly or proactively. Housekeeping and sanitation were noted as inconsistent in a small number of accounts, raising incontinence-care and cleanliness concerns that prospective residents should clarify.

Overall, Selleck's Woods offers a high-quality physical environment, strong dining, engaging amenities, and many caring staff members — making it appealing for independent or lower-dependency residents seeking an active, comfortable community. The notable patterns to weigh are operational variability in clinical care, staffing coverage, accessibility for residents with significant mobility needs, and communication/billing transparency. Prospective residents and families would benefit from targeted questions during a tour: staffing ratios and overnight clinical coverage, specifics about wheelchair-accessible units and in-apartment modifications, medication-management protocols and care-plan communication processes, housekeeping schedules and incontinence-care procedures, and written details about fees, deposits, and refund policies.

About The Residence at Selleck's Woods

The Residence at Selleck's Woods sits on a peaceful, wooded parcel at 1 Parkland Drive in Darien, Connecticut, with views of more than 50 acres of parkland and easy access to nature, and the community has 102 units made up of studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom apartments that have kitchenettes, full baths, and modern finishes. Residents can choose independent living, assisted living, or memory care options, so some people live totally on their own, some get help with things like bathing and medication, and others have secure memory care in the Reflections Memory Care area which has a non-pharmacological approach and is set up for those dealing with Alzheimer's or dementia, trying to keep everyone safe, structured, and cared for with support tailored for both cognitive and emotional health.

There are a lot of staff members, including CNAs, LPNs, med techs, memory care assistants, nurses, nurse assistants, nurse aides, as well as chefs, servers, dishwashers, activities coordinators, receptionists, maintenance crews, janitors, and housekeepers, so assistance covers everything including meals, laundry, and clean living spaces. The food comes from a culinary chef and there's anytime dining, which means meals are available all day, and for those who need temporary help or just want a short break, respite care and short-term stays are an option, and folks often mention how easy it is to make friends, especially in the memory care section.

There are programs for social, recreational, and spiritual activities, including things like walking paths for exercise, a theater room for movies, a fitness center, lounges, a pub or sports bar, a beauty and barber shop, gardens, and an activity room, so people can spend their days engaged and active if they want, plus there are social programs and wellness activities to choose from. There's transportation provided for appointments or outings, guest parking for visitors, covered parking available, and accessibility throughout, whether that's wheelchair features or handicap access in common areas and all apartments.

Safety seems to be a priority, with an emergency call system in every apartment and a 24-hour security system for peace of mind, and the memory care neighborhood is secure to help prevent wandering. The Residence at Selleck's Woods also makes use of lifestyle technology like REACT Neuro and includes concierge services, Wi-Fi, and high-speed internet; the library and activity room provide space for hobbies or getting together with neighbors, and the salon and exercise room add to daily life. Meals focus on nutrition and taste, the community has won some awards such as Best Meals and Dining and Most Friendly, and families mention caring staff members who focus on each resident's needs, especially when someone has to transition in health or comes from a hospital or rehab stay.

Care plans get adjusted as health needs change, so some residents might move from independent living to assisted or memory care without needing to leave the community, and the facility offers home care services and skilled nursing support if someone needs more help than what standard assisted living allows. Information, resources, a glossary, and real resident stories are available for families and residents to help answer questions and make choices about care, but the main thing people talk about is a simple, peaceful setting where meals are prepared, care is available, and daily life has enough structure and support for folks who want to be social, active, or just have a safe place to call home near Selleck's Woods.
