    Warm modern attentive memory-care community

I moved my parent here and I'm very pleased. The staff are warm, attentive and safety-focused, with excellent memory-care leadership and nurses who preserve dignity. The building is modern, pristine and hotel-like, the food is wonderful, activities are engaging and transportation is reliable-our loved one's quality of life has clearly improved. Overall a wonderful, highly recommendable community with only small room for improvement.

    Summary of reviews

The Residence at Summer Street is described by many families as a modern, boutique-style assisted living community with strong person-centered caregiving. Reviewers consistently praise an attentive, compassionate staff, dedicated memory-care leadership, and an on-site clinical team that includes a geriatric physician and licensed nurses who administer medications. The facility’s physical environment receives frequent positive mention: clean, well-maintained common areas, elegant dining rooms, and spacious, light-filled apartments across multiple floor plans. Staff-to-resident ratios and proactive caregiving are highlighted as contributors to improved physical, mental, and social well-being for residents.

Dining and programming are another strength in the feedback. The community offers chef-driven menus, an extensive selection of meal options, and pleasant dining spaces. Activities are varied and described as engaging — discussion groups, art sessions, concerts, and outdoor walks are noted — and the community provides reliable transportation for appointments and outings. Families report that the facility supports personalization (family photos, room music, phone access) and offers housekeeping, laundry, and respite-stay transition support that ease daily living burdens.

Despite these strengths, several operational concerns appear repeatedly. Financial transparency and billing practices are a prominent theme: families cite rapid fee increases, unanticipated charges, and difficulty getting clear answers on billing. There are also accounts pointing to inconsistent leadership and managerial turnover, which appears to correlate with variable staff responsiveness and occasional gaps in clinical coordination — particularly within the memory-care unit. Some reviews describe limited availability of skilled nursing or ADL-focused hours, and a few note inconsistencies in housekeeping or in meal-service quality.

A related pattern concerns incident response and communication. While many reviewers list specific staff who were responsive and caring, others describe delays in response to clinical issues and uneven communication with families. Prospective residents should therefore clarify staffing levels, on-site nursing hours, incident-response protocols, and communication expectations with leadership. Given the frequency of concerns about fees, carefully reviewing contract terms, fee-increase policies, and all ancillary charges (laundry, medication administration, administration fees) before committing is advisable.

In summary, the Residence at Summer Street offers a high-end, well-appointed environment with a largely praised caregiving team, strong dining and activity programming, and services that support dignity and personalization. These operational strengths are tempered by recurring concerns about pricing transparency, management consistency, and clinical coordination in the memory-care setting. Prospective residents and families will likely find this community attractive if they confirm contractual billing practices and verify staffing and clinical coverage details that match their care needs.

About The Residence at Summer Street

The Residence at Summer Street sits in downtown Stamford, offering studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom apartments that are bright and cheerful, some even fully furnished, and if you look at the details, you'll see they've got a real focus on making life comfortable for seniors whether they want independent living, need a little help with daily tasks, or require memory care with their Reflections program, which emphasizes empathy and mindfulness for people living with dementia or Alzheimer's, and you'll notice they use a seven-tier care menu to match services to changing needs, with a team where all associates are certified by the National Institute for Dementia Education. Residents have access to special features like story time, game nights, and clubs for gardening, cooking, reading, music, and arts and crafts, plus daily Tai Chi, yoga, or chair yoga classes to help everyone stay active, and there's a wellness team that keeps activities and fitness programs going. Meals can be kosher or meet special needs, served either in a bright Bistro or the community dining area, where guests are welcome, and you'll find all-day dining options and a culinary team focused on fine dining and café services. Residents can join events like offsite trips, walking groups, social gatherings, movie nights, Nintendo Wii bowling, musical performances, lectures, and spiritual programs, and thanks to the outdoor patios, gardens, and walking paths, it's a good place for people who like to be both inside and outside, with secure grounds and 24-hour security for safety. The building is mid-rise and handicap accessible, with elevators, a gym, recreation rooms, a theater room, a library, a computer area, lounges, a pub or sports bar, a beauty/barber shop for haircuts, a spa, and even a convenience store downstairs, so most needs are covered under one roof, and there's free high-speed WiFi and cable in every room, plus the whole place gets described as clean, modern, and very well maintained. Residents and families can get help with daily basics like laundry, dry cleaning, linen service, private or in-house cleaning, housekeeping, and medication management, with staff on site who are friendly, attentive, and kind, and there's a wellness team ready to help with medication, injections, oxygen assistance, help bathing, dressing, walking, toileting, and even overnight nursing. People who need more care can get skilled nursing on-site or join the managed memory care community, and the whole care plan can be set up to change as health needs change, thanks to a continuum of care and partnerships with outside healthcare providers. They offer a S.H.I.E.L.D. program for wellness, and support with activities of daily living, with respite care options too, so someone can stay just for a short time if needed. Transportation is free for errands, appointments, or outings. The community accepts pets and encourages socialization, offers language options in English, French, German, and Spanish, and seeks to promote a diverse, welcoming lifestyle where people are treated like family. The Residence at Summer Street is licensed by the state, and thanks to the downtown location, residents can take part in arts and cultural life outside, but there's plenty inside to make home comfortable and safe. The leadership and staff make sure needs get met, and there are resources for seniors and families wishing to plan, pay for care, or find guidance, including information about insurance, government help, and veterans' benefits. The Residence at Summer Street holds a 4.5-star average rating and is often noted for its friendly atmosphere, service, and staff who lead with kindness and compassion.
