    Mom happy; caring, well-run facility

I'm very pleased with this senior care center. My mom is happy, comfortable and well cared for; the nursing team and welcoming staff are caring and keep me informed. The DON is personable, the facility is well run and highly ranked by CMS - it's often full for a reason. I'd recommend it.

    Summary of reviews

Reviews for West Lake Nursing and Rehab Center are highly polarized. A substantial subset of reviewers praise clinical servicesโ€”especially physical therapyโ€”and identify individual nurses, hospice coordination, and the director of nursing as strong points. Several accounts describe residents who are comfortable and well cared for, and the facility is identified by some as achieving high CMS ratings and consistent occupancy.

At the same time, recurrent operational themes raise concern. Care quality appears inconsistent: reviewers describe both attentive nursing care and delays or failures in clinical response during urgent events. There are repeated references to difficulties with emergency response, seizure management, and communication with families about medical status. Physical-therapy outcomes are a relative strength, while bedside medical oversight and incident response are noted as uneven.

Staffing and staff conduct are central fault lines in the reviews. Many comments point to understaffing, high caseloads (including when cohorts of infectious patients are present), and staff who appear overburdened. These conditions are linked in reviews to slowed response times, missed calls, and supervision gapsโ€”particularly around wandering or behaviorally complex residents. Language-access issues and situations where family members felt communication was poor or unresponsive were also described.

Facility condition and amenities show mixed feedback. Positive impressions about resident comfort coexist with multiple complaints about room size, poor air conditioning, nonfunctional in-room equipment (TVs, call systems, bed remotes), and communal bathing arrangements. Several reviewers raised sanitation and pest-control concerns in hallways and shared spaces. These environmental and maintenance issues, combined with equipment problems, can affect daily life and access to activities and entertainment.

Management, administration, and business practices are another repeated area of concern. Reviewers describe slow or disorganized discharge processes, excessive paperwork at discharge, and billing disputes or refund delays. A number of reviews allege financial irregularities, payroll issues, or theft; given the seriousness of those claims, they suggest a need for documentation and follow-up with oversight bodies. Some families praised administrative staff and communication, but overall impressions of leadership competency are mixed.

Notable patterns: positive clinical experiences (particularly physical therapy and some nursing staff) sit alongside consistent criticisms of staffing levels, infection-control practices, sanitation, supervision of residents with behavioral needs, and administrative/billing reliability. Prospective residents and families should verify current staffing ratios, infection-control protocols, pest-control schedules, supervision and behavioral management policies, interpreter availability, and discharge/billing procedures before placement. For any specific clinical or legal concerns mentioned in reviews, families may wish to consult state survey results and CMS deficiency reports for the most objective, up-to-date information.
