    Small spotless home, compassionate care

I'm grateful we chose Summerhaven - a small, spotless home where owners Greg and Theresa are hands-on and the staff truly feel like family. Care was compassionate and skilled (excellent memory and end-of-life support), meals and activities were personalized, and needs were met quickly. Warm, well-maintained, and responsive - I highly recommend it.

    Summary of reviews

Overall sentiment: The reviews portray Summerhaven Assisted Living as a small, highly personalized assisted living home that consistently delivers compassionate, professional and attentive care. Most reviewers emphasize a family-like atmosphere where staff know residents well, respond quickly to needs, and provide both physical and emotional support. Leadership — frequently identified by name (Greg and Theresa) — is repeatedly described as accessible, hands-on, and mission-driven, contributing to staff stability and a consistent standard of care.

Care quality and staff: The dominant theme across reviews is exceptionally positive appraisal of the caregiving team. Reviewers use terms such as compassionate, patient, skillful, nurturing, and professional. Staff are described as going above and beyond — for instance, using personalized calming techniques (videos) for memory-care residents and enabling residents to avoid relocation to a higher-acuity memory facility. Memory care and end-of-life care expertise are repeatedly noted, with families reporting dignified hospice coordination and emotional support during difficult times. Several reviews specifically credit staff stability and a small community model for rapid responsiveness and individualized plans that preserve residents’ independence despite high physical-care needs.

Facility and environment: Summerhaven is consistently described as a clean, well-maintained, and thoughtfully designed home. Multiple reviewers use phrases like spotlessly clean and welcoming. The physical setup — private bedrooms and baths, attractive common areas, and outdoor amenities (including a swimming pool and pleasant grounds) — supports both resident comfort and family visits. The dining area is mentioned as nicely done, with fresh, well-prepared, and personalized meals that accommodate dietary restrictions. The facility’s small scale is framed positively in most reviews because it supports one-on-one attention and a family atmosphere, although it also contributes to limited capacity and a waiting list.

Activities and social life: Reviewers note meaningful social engagement and a sense of belonging for residents. Specific activities called out include music (drums, jazz) and other resident-centered events that generate visible happiness. The environment is described as nurturing social connection; staff are portrayed as fostering a second-family dynamic where residents and families feel welcomed and supported.

Management and operations: Leadership involvement is a strong positive in the reviews. Families repeatedly commend the administrators for being available, communicative, and personally invested in resident well-being. This hands-on leadership appears to influence staff behavior and the overall culture. A single reviewer expressed concern that administration sometimes emphasizes business priorities over the home environment, representing a minority view among otherwise strongly positive comments. Another operational note is that the facility’s small size has led to a long waiting list, which is evidence of demand but also a practical constraint for new families seeking placement. Additionally, one reviewer mentioned the facility does not have an LNS license; that was noted as a factual point to consider when evaluating regulatory or service implications.

Patterns, credibility and caveats: Many reviews reference long stays, first-resident experiences during opening, or multi-year placements, which suggests sustained satisfaction by families over time. Multiple reviewers name owners/staff and recount specific positive interventions (e.g., avoiding memory-facility transfer, hospice coordination), lending credibility and concreteness to the praise. The most frequent themes are individualized compassionate care, cleanliness, strong leadership, and effective memory-care capabilities. The main consistent concerns to investigate further are the limited capacity/long waitlist, the single mention of a business-focused administrative perception, and the license note (LNS) — families should ask management to clarify licensing, capacity, and how business decisions are made so that expectations about home environment versus operational policies are clear.

Bottom line: Summerhaven Assisted Living appears to offer a highly personalized, stable, and compassionate care environment, particularly well suited to families seeking a small, home-like assisted living with dementia and end-of-life care expertise. It scores strongly on staff quality, cleanliness, food, activities, and leadership responsiveness. Prospective families should confirm licensing details (LNS status) and be aware that limited capacity can result in a waiting list; they may also want to discuss how administrative decisions are balanced with maintaining a home-like atmosphere.
