    Warm staff, clean renovated facility

I moved my dad here and we're very happy. The staff (Lillian and Marlene stood out) are warm, attentive and professional, the facility is clean and nicely renovated, meals and activities are plentiful, and amenities like the pool and transportation make life easy - move-in was smooth and residents are welcoming, so I highly recommend it.

    Summary of reviews

Sterling Court – Sky Active Living elicits a polarized set of impressions: many reviewers praise the staff, social environment, and physical amenities, while a distinct subset raises operational concerns that could affect day-to-day resident experience. The community presents well in terms of friendliness and social engagement — staff members are frequently described as attentive, personable, and helpful, and specific employees are singled out for exemplary service. Prospective residents will find a range of apartment and cottage options, recent interior updates, a heated pool, landscaped grounds, on-site transportation, and access to therapy and a nurse practitioner, all of which support an active independent-living lifestyle.

Care and staffing: Care in the independent-living context is generally characterized by supportive staff and strong resident–staff rapport. However, reviewers also describe staffing shortages that affect service delivery at peak times, particularly at meals and in housekeeping. There are indications of uneven responsiveness for non-routine needs (for example, delays in addressing maintenance or wellness checks). The presence of on-site clinical services and therapy is a positive, but families seeking continuous 24-hour clinical oversight should confirm level-of-care provisions, since the community operates primarily as independent living.

Dining: Dining is the most consistently mixed area. Some residents describe well-prepared, varied meals and attentive servers, while others report inconsistent food quality, items running out, long waits at mealtimes, and lapses in accommodating dietary restrictions. Recent staffing and chef changes were mentioned as potential improvements; still, inconsistent meal-service continuity and limited backup options have been recurring concerns. Prospective residents should review current menus, inquire about dietary-accommodation processes, and observe a meal service during a visit.

Activities and social life: Activity offerings are a clear strength. The program includes regular opportunities such as bingo, card games, crafts, exercise classes, pool activities, outings, and scheduled transportation. A dedicated activities coordinator and a life-enrichment staff role were noted as positive developments. A minor theme is variability in program quality or scheduling; some residents find the calendar lively, while others would like more variety or club-based options (bridge, mahjong, book club) at consistent times.

Facilities and maintenance: Physically, the community shows many attractive features — renovated interiors, cottages, pool area, and convenient location. At the same time, multiple reviewers describe a maintenance backlog and recurring facility issues: roof repairs, leaks, HVAC and single-window AC limitations, elevator reliability, and carpeting or exterior upkeep. There are also mentions of pest-control and sanitation concerns in certain areas. These items point to uneven facility maintenance and variable turnaround on repairs; confirming average repair response times and pest-management practices during a tour is advisable.

Management and operational patterns: Management impressions are mixed. Several reviews commend new management initiatives and individual staff members who provide excellent service and move-in support. Conversely, recurring themes include frequent management turnover, communication problems, billing and fee transparency issues, rent increases, and isolated incidents that raised concerns about resident property accounting and contract clarity. While some residents feel the ownership changes and new leadership are improving operations, others report unresolved service and transparency issues. Prospective residents should carefully review the contract (including mandatory fees and refund policies), ask about recent turnover, and request a clear explanation of billing practices and escalation pathways for concerns.

Bottom line: Sterling Court offers many features attractive to active independent-living residents — a strong social environment, robust activities, pleasant outdoor amenities, and helpful frontline staff. The main operational risks center on dining consistency, staffing levels at peak service times, timely maintenance and pest-control, and management consistency and fee transparency. Interested families should schedule a visit that includes observing a meal service, asking for documentation on pest-control and maintenance-response procedures, clarifying the level of clinical coverage, and obtaining a full explanation of fees and the contract terms before deciding.
