    Mom happy with caring staff

I toured Brookdale DeLand and was impressed - warm, caring staff and supportive directors (Lindsey and Carrie) made my mom feel safe, respected and independent. The beautiful, well-maintained community, tasty meals, plenty of activities and compassionate, hands-on care gave me confidence she's happy and well cared for. Overall I'm very satisfied and would recommend it as a very good senior living option.

    Summary of reviews

Brookdale DeLand presents a mixed but detailed picture: many reviewers highlight strong interpersonal strengths and an environment that can feel home‑like and well supported. Positive comments focus heavily on the caregiving team — staff are frequently described as compassionate, friendly, and willing to go beyond basic duties. Leadership and administration also receive praise in numerous accounts for being accessible and supportive during transitions. The community offers a variety of apartment layouts, a secure single‑floor footprint with a memory care unit, visible staff presence, well‑kept common spaces and grounds, and a welcoming tour experience.

Care quality appears generally solid for routine assisted‑living needs. Families describe attentive one‑on‑one care, successful transitions, and staff who provide emotional support during crises. At the same time, several reviews point to operational limitations when residents require higher‑acuity clinical attention or advanced dementia care; examples include delays in hospital transfer and perceptions that the facility is not always equipped to sustain promised high levels of clinical oversight. Understaffing and occasional concerns about staff conduct or tone are recurring themes that reviewers link to slower responsiveness during off‑hours.

Dining and activities are notable strengths for many residents: an in‑house chef, varied meal offerings, flexible dining and individualized dietary accommodations are often praised, as are regular exercise classes, social programming, local outings and special events. However, there is variability in experience — some families cite cold meals, limited menu variety at times, or a decline following vendor changes. Activity delivery also varies by day and by unit; while many residents enjoy an active schedule, others report cancellations or fewer opportunities depending on staffing and unit size.

Facility condition and services show a mix of newer and older areas. Numerous reviewers report clean, attractive common areas, private apartments, courtyard access and useful amenities such as transportation, a salon, and onsite medical/nursing presence. Conversely, some reviews describe sanitation or cleanliness issues in specific areas, isolated pest‑control concerns, and inconsistent housekeeping or laundry quality. These issues appear localized rather than facility‑wide but warrant direct inquiry during a visit.

Management and administrative patterns merit careful attention by prospective residents and families. The sales and marketing teams are frequently described as professional and non‑pressured, and some administrative staff are commended for rapid admissions and problem resolution. Simultaneously, there is a consistent cluster of concerns around billing practices: unclear monthly invoices, autopay cancellations, invoicing errors, ancillary charge disputes (including incontinence supplies), price increases and occasional refund delays. There are also isolated, serious allegations regarding property security that should prompt verification through references and contract review.

In summary, Brookdale DeLand offers clear strengths in staff engagement, community life, dining, and on‑site services that make it a good fit for many assisted‑living residents seeking a warm, activity‑oriented environment. Prospective residents should balance those strengths against operational caveats: verify clinical capacity for any higher‑acuity needs, inspect housekeeping and pest‑control responsiveness, and scrutinize contracts and billing procedures to address transparency and ancillary‑charge concerns. Doing an in‑person tour, speaking with current families, and reviewing recent billing and incident resolution practices will help determine whether the community’s strengths align with an individual’s clinical and financial expectations.

    About Brookdale DeLand

Brookdale DeLand sits on landscaped grounds in DeLand, Florida, and provides a senior living community where people can find assisted living, independent living, and memory care, as well as skilled nursing, continuing care, adult day services, and both at-home care and Medicare-certified home health care, so folks can pick what suits them best no matter how their needs may change. Staff at Brookdale DeLand have a reputation for being helpful, joyful, and kind, making for a friendly atmosphere that welcomes residents and visitors alike, and there's someone around 24/7 in case of emergency alerts or to lend a hand when needed. Residents can live in spacious, pet-friendly apartments, and gather in common areas to enjoy events, activities, and simple pleasures like visits from neighbors or time outside in the fresh air, and the campus comes with safe features, living spaces designed for comfort, and dining rooms where the kitchen team prepares nutritious meals using quality ingredients to meet health needs and personal preferences. Specialized care at Brookdale DeLand means residents with incontinence or diabetes, or those unable to walk, can get help without leaving the community, and the staff work alongside registered nurses for personalized care plans, regular checkups, wellness visits, immunizations, and ongoing support for chronic conditions like high blood pressure or congestive heart failure. Memory care services give extra support to people with Alzheimer's or dementia, using secure spaces, relationship-based approaches, and routines that focus on identity and safety, while assisted living helps folks with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, or taking medicine, and independent living, active adult options, and home care with non-medical aides mean there's support for both active seniors and those needing more day-to-day help, even if they choose to stay at home. Brookdale DeLand allows pets, has restaurant-style dining, and tries to promote a sense of wellness and independence by offering activities, general counseling, safety measures, and blogs for resident engagement, so everyone who lives here has something to do and someone to talk to, whether they're looking for company, activities, or just a peaceful place to call home.
