I've had my aunt here for two years and I'm very pleased with the attentive, caring staff and involved owners. The home is clean, well-kept and feels like family; administration is responsive and quick to fix issues (Leo replaced the AC, George helped unpack). Meals, laundry, transportation, medication management and daily living assistance are reliable, and there are activities and exercise classes. Staff are kind and engaged-even providing weekend meals-and I've seen noticeable improvement in my aunt, so I recommend this facility.

Summary of reviews
The reviews present a mixed picture of North‑Lake Retirement Home. Strengths commonly described include hands‑on caregiving from individual staff members, a small and home‑like environment, and prompt facility maintenance. Families and residents frequently note three meals daily (with snacks), laundry service, medication management, and occasional transportation support. Several accounts highlight responsive actions such as rapid air‑conditioning repair and staff members who assist with personal items and weekend needs. Owner or administrator involvement is visible and contributes to some families’ sense of a connected community.
Care quality appears uneven. Many comments praise attentive, kind caregivers and improved daily living support for long‑term residents, while others raise concerns about inconsistent clinical competency, supervision, and follow‑through on care tasks. Medication management and daily assistance are cited as strengths in some reports but are described as variable in others. Prospective residents should expect that individual staff members can provide strong, compassionate care, but operational oversight and clinical consistency may fluctuate.
Staff and management behavior is a significant pattern in the feedback. Positive descriptions emphasize patient, problem‑solving staff and engaged administration that responds to emails and vendor needs. Conversely, multiple accounts describe confrontational or insensitive staff interactions and unprofessional communication from specific employees or managers. There are also serious claims about personal‑property incidents and communication-system failures; these reviews indicate gaps in how the facility secures residents’ belongings and how it manages telecommunication and family contact channels. Some reviewers indicate that these matters led to involvement by external authorities and formal complaints.
Dining and activities reflect the facility’s small scale. The kitchen is praised by several families for improved meals and a capable cook, though the menu is sometimes described as limited or repetitive. Structured programming is limited — reviewers describe few organized groups, entertainment, or activity options, with some on‑site exercise classes but otherwise sparse social programming. This aligns with the facility’s size and suggests that residents who need or want extensive activities may need external transportation and referrals arranged by family or community services.
Facilities and infection‑control are mixed. Multiple reviewers state the interior is clean and well maintained, and maintenance responsiveness is a positive. However, other comments raise concerns about communal‑area health management and localized sanitation issues; reviewers referenced communicable conditions in common spaces and swift responses when incidents occurred. This indicates variability in housekeeping standards and infection‑control practices, and it would be prudent for families to ask about current protocols, cleaning frequency, and outbreak procedures.
Operational and administrative issues emerge repeatedly: unclear billing or insurance handling, inconsistent visitation and room‑access policies, and constrained operational resources that limit service breadth. Telephone and communication infrastructure failures (including relay and voicemail problems) and limited transportation coordination are also recurrent themes. These are facility‑level patterns that can materially affect family communication and logistics.
Overall, North‑Lake presents as a small, engaged facility with notable strengths in individualized caregiving, rapid maintenance response, and a home‑like atmosphere. At the same time, reviewers identify significant operational weaknesses — particularly around staff professionalism, property security, infection‑control consistency, activity programming, and administrative transparency. Prospective residents and families should balance the facility’s interpersonal strengths against these operational gaps, verify current corrective measures, and ask specific questions about security of personal items, infection‑control protocols, staffing consistency, communications infrastructure, and billing procedures before making a placement decision.

About North-Lake Retirement Home
North-Lake Retirement Home at 1222 N 16th Ave, Hollywood, FL, called Isle of Psalms, is a senior living facility that's offered care since 1988, still active, and can house up to 60 residents even though it's got a license for up to 114, and you'll find both independent and assisted living options, plus memory care for folks with dementia or Alzheimer's. You get access to doctors, hospitals, and rehab centers nearby, which means medical help isn't far and staff can help arrange rides to medical sessions, shopping, or spiritual places if residents need that kind of thing, and there's always trained staff available to help with bathing, grooming, dressing, meal assistance, and even two-person transfers from bed to wheelchair, while staff stay awake all night so there's always help in emergencies. Folks living here find things kept clean, and there's a sprinkler system and safety features for peace of mind along with cable TV, washers, dryers, WiFi, and guest parking, so it feels homey and secure.
The home is big on keeping its residents active and social, so there's a dining room with three daily homemade meals including meals for diabetes or high blood pressure if that's required, recreation areas for things like music and animal therapy, fitness programs, and art projects, with weekly social nights, regular outings, a garden, a hot tub, and a book room, and you'll see common areas for sitting and chatting, plus planned activities and entertainment to keep residents' days full. The facility provides different room types such as studios, single rooms, one-bedroom, and even two-bedroom or semi-private rooms so seniors can find what suits them best, and there's housekeeping, maintenance, and laundry services to keep things running smoothly.
Residents can depend on their care plans getting updated to fit changes in mental, emotional, or medical needs, whether folks need help with medication, incontinence care, or psychiatric and medical disorders-staff even help with insulin checks and special diets-so even residents with more complicated health concerns get help. There's respite care for short-term stays and hospice care when needed, and you'll spot facilities for safety and easier movement with handicap features throughout. Residents of ages 40 to 89 can live here, and the home allows aging in place so people can stay once they settle in, with both independent living for folks who want to keep up their independence plus assisted living support for those needing more daily help, and everything is under the rules of Florida's Department of Social Services.
Guy Bergeron acts as Director and President, handling reports and filings, and staff try to make residents feel like part of a community by running games, outings, craft activities, music, animal therapy, tabletop games, and regular social events, and arranging transportation for appointments and shopping. You'll find a salon, barbershop, kitchenettes in rooms, and even a mobile hairdresser who visits, so most basic needs and comforts are on-site, and families often feel relieved that there's continuous support for their loved ones. North-Lake Retirement Home doesn't list any awards, and no information is provided about pricing, but everything aims to help seniors live as fully as possible, stay connected with others, and feel comfortable and safe, with memory care and assisted living services available as needed.
