I moved my uncle in and have been very pleased - the staff are friendly, caring, and attentive, the community is clean, safe, and homey, and the smaller size allows personal, responsive attention. Meals are generally good and nutritious, rehab/therapy and activities keep residents socially active, and on-site amenities and transportation are convenient. Administration impressed me with their vision and responsiveness; overall a very good, welcoming place I'd recommend.

Summary of reviews
Brentwood Retirement Community receives mixed but specific feedback across several operational domains. Many reviewers praise the direct-care staff — nurses, aides and therapists are frequently described as caring, compassionate and responsive. The community offers a continuum of services from independent living to assisted living and skilled rehab; rehabilitation and therapy services are repeatedly highlighted as effective. Medication management and on-site nursing are noted strengths in multiple accounts, though there are also reports of pharmacy coordination delays and occasional medication-administration problems that suggest uneven operational controls.
Dining and activities are an important differentiator. The facility offers restaurant-style dining, hand-delivered meals during infectious outbreaks, and an activity program that includes bingo, movies, outings and shopping transportation. These offerings contribute to social engagement and resident satisfaction for many. At the same time, food quality is described inconsistently — some residents praise the meals as nutritious and restaurant-quality, while others report unacceptable preparation or limited options. Activity capacity is sometimes constrained (limited vans, fewer offerings than advertised), which can reduce participation opportunities for residents who want more frequent or diverse programming.
The physical plant and housekeeping present a clear pattern: the campus and apartments vary widely in condition. Numerous comments indicate an older facility with dated finishes, localized maintenance needs (peeling paint, wood deterioration, cracked walls/ceilings) and intermittent sanitation or pest-control concerns in some areas. Conversely, other reviewers describe clean, well-kept units and common spaces; this suggests variability by building wing or by time period. Some mechanical and systems issues (phone outages, air-conditioning inconsistency, exterior landscaping) have been cited and appear to affect resident comfort and operational reliability.
Management, communication and safety practices are areas of recurring concern. Families describe both exemplary administrators and instances of slow or uncoordinated responses from management and corporate levels. There are multiple descriptions of poor post-incident communication, gaps in follow-up after medical events or resident deaths, and inconsistencies in night coverage or emergency responsiveness. Security controls for vulnerable populations (memory-care access, apartment access) and property safeguards have been questioned, and there are isolated but serious-allegation items such as theft and improper apartment access that warrant careful investigation. Staffing stability is uneven: while many staff members are praised for attentiveness, reviewers also note understaffing, turnover, and variability in caregiver skill levels.
For prospective residents and families: Brentwood offers tangible strengths — a caring front-line team, rehab capability, on-site amenities and an active social program — and it may represent good value for those prioritizing medical support and community activities. However, expectations should be calibrated regarding an older facility, variable dining experience, and potential maintenance or operational inconsistencies. Families should ask targeted questions about recent maintenance plans, pest-control contracts, medication and pharmacy processes, staff-to-resident ratios, incident communication protocols, and security measures for residents with cognitive impairment. A site visit focused on the candidate apartment wing, a discussion with current residents and a review of recent staffing and inspection records will help determine fit and current performance trends.
