    Caring clean active memory-care community

I placed my mom at Rosecastle of Citrus and have been very pleased. The facility and grounds are clean, bright and beautiful, rooms comfortable with showers, and the dining is enjoyable. Staff are consistently friendly, attentive and caring - nurses and aides went above and beyond, coordinated the move smoothly, and kept us informed. There are lots of activities (bingo, karaoke, outings, car shows) and respectful memory-care options that keep residents engaged. In-house services, reliable maintenance and med administration give me confidence; it feels like a warm, home-like community I would recommend.

    Summary of reviews

Overall impression: Reviews present a mixed but largely positive picture of Compass Rose of Lecanto (Rosecastle of Citrus). Many families and visitors emphasize compassionate, family‑oriented staff, a strong social environment, and an active programming calendar. At the same time, recurring operational issues—principally around staffing consistency, responsiveness, and some maintenance/housekeeping matters—appear to produce variable experiences across residents and units.

Care and staff: The consistent strength across reviews is the caregiving staff. Numerous comments describe attentive, compassionate caregivers who create a family‑like atmosphere, maintain relationships with residents, and go beyond routine duties to support families (including virtual visits during COVID and individualized comfort). Several long‑tenured employees are specifically praised, and families frequently report confidence in day‑to‑day nursing and personal interactions. However, reviewers also cite inconsistent staffing coverage and periodic delays in attending to personal care (notably bathing schedules and response times to call signals). Management responsiveness and staff turnover were also noted as patterns that can affect the continuity of care.

Dining: Dining receives predominantly favorable comments: meals are described as appealing, with pleasant dining areas and social mealtimes. A number of residents and family members reported positive food experiences. Conversely, some reviews reference inconsistent meal timeliness and occasional variability in food quality, suggesting that mealtime service can vary by shift or period.

Activities and social life: The activity program is a clear positive. Reviewers cite a broad range of offerings — bingo, karaoke, themed events, car shows, cookouts, outings to parks and museums, church services, and on‑site entertainment — that contribute to resident engagement and a strong social community. These programs are credited with reducing family stress and enhancing resident mood. There are isolated reports of cancelled activities related to staffing constraints, indicating that programming consistency may be sensitive to staffing levels.

Facilities and services: The property is frequently described as clean, bright, and park‑like, with well‑maintained grounds, large windows, and private rooms with en‑suite showers. The community offers in‑house ancillary services (optometry, therapy, planned gym addition) and reported reliable maintenance, laundry, and housekeeping in many accounts. Memory‑care capability is available and is noted for enabling supervised roaming and focused dementia programming; some families felt memory‑care residents were integrated with broader community life. At the same time, reviewers point to condition variability between older and newer wings, occasional odor concerns in certain areas, and a specific bathing/shower safety issue (slippery shower bases) that suggests the need for attention to transfer and bathroom safety.

Management and operations: Positive operational features include all‑inclusive pricing models with transparent billing and assistance navigating Medicaid/financing. Several families praised coordination during move‑ins and end‑of‑life communication. Offsetting these strengths are comments about inconsistent leadership availability, frequent management or staffing changes, and perceived price focus in some interactions. Transportation accessibility (wheelchair‑van limitations) and occasional unresponsiveness to family communications were also noted as operational constraints.

Notable patterns and decision factors: Prospective families should weigh a strong, socially active, and compassionate caregiving culture against variability in staffing and operational consistency. If consistent personal‑care scheduling, quick response to call signals, and uniformly maintained older wings are priorities, these are areas to probe during a tour. If family communication, activities, transparent billing, and a welcoming social climate are priorities, this community receives consistent positive feedback. A targeted tour focusing on the specific unit under consideration, staff‑to‑resident ratios on different shifts, bathroom safety measures, and the plan for transportation accessibility will help clarify fit for an individual resident.
