    Caring staff, excellent food, activities

I'm very happy with Pelican Garden - the staff are polite, caring, and went above and beyond; my mother gets excellent, personalized care in a clean, beautifully landscaped, small community with large rooms and great bathrooms. The food is delicious, activities (sing-alongs, bingo, cards, movies, bus trips) are plentiful, management is responsive, and I highly recommend it for a loved one.

    Summary of reviews

Overall impression: Pelican Garden is consistently described as a small, well-kept assisted‑living community with a strong emphasis on cleanliness, landscaped outdoor spaces, and large resident rooms. Families and residents commonly highlight the facility’s welcoming atmosphere, the attentiveness of staff, and a sense of personalized care that stems from the community’s modest size.

Care and staff: Reviewers emphasize compassionate, helpful staff and hands-on management. Many families described good rapport, responsive communication, and occasions when staff went above and beyond. That said, there are recurring mentions of staffing shortages; prospective families should ask about current staffing ratios, shift coverage, and how the facility manages peak demand or absences. A subset of reviews referenced falls and subsequent hospitalizations — this pattern suggests it would be prudent to review the facility’s fall‑prevention protocols, clinical-incident response procedures, and family-notification practices during any tour.

Dining and activities: Dining is a clear strength. Meals are described as well-prepared, varied, and popular with residents, and reviewers noted a transparent monthly-fee model without surprise charges. The community offers a broad activity schedule (sing-alongs, bingo, cards, movie nights, bus trips), and many residents participate and enjoy social programming. Some families noted limited ability for certain residents to participate; ask how activities are adapted for varying mobility and cognitive needs, and how staff facilitate inclusion for less-mobile residents.

Facilities and accommodations: Rooms are frequently praised for size and maintenance, with accessible bathrooms and walk-in showers. The property offers several indoor and outdoor seating areas and pleasant landscaping. Trade-offs include the absence of private in-room kitchens and restrictions on major appliances, which may matter to families seeking independent-kitchen options. A few reviewers cited privacy concerns tied to open layouts or shared spaces; clarify room configurations and privacy options when touring. The site is described as convenient for local families but somewhat removed from downtown amenities, which may be a factor for those seeking nearby off-site services.

Management and patterns to verify: Management and administrators are generally characterized as caring and knowledgeable, and there is evidence of steady demand for placements. For decision making, families should verify current waitlist status, contract details (including what the fixed monthly rate covers), transportation arrangements for medical appointments, staffing levels at different times of day, fall‑prevention measures, and how the community accommodates residents with limited activity participation. These targeted questions will help confirm whether Pelican Garden’s strengths align with an individual’s care and lifestyle needs.

    About Pelican Garden

Pelican Garden sits in a warm Florida-style building with over 20,000 square feet of senior housing, surrounded by a peaceful walkway, lush landscaping with vibrant hibiscus, and a tropical courtyard garden full of Florida birds and flowers, and it really offers the kind of quiet, easy living that some folks are looking for when they need a little help with their days, though it's got a secure front entrance with white columns that feels inviting in its own way. The place has different kinds of care-assisted living, home health, nursing, rehabilitation, memory care for dementia or Alzheimer's, adult day care, and even hospice and respite care services if someone only needs short-term help or extra comfort. Meals come through several ways, including restaurant style dining, room service, and a variety of diet options to fit nearly any need, and those big, bright dining spaces with round tables and natural light help bring people together for food and conversation, with weekly menus and even kosher, vegan, vegetarian, low sugar, low salt, and gluten-free choices.

Private and companion rooms can be furnished or unfurnished, most have private bathrooms with extra-large baths and big closets, cable television, and WiFi included, while floor plans cover both private and semi-private layouts, each offering either a sitting area or shared living spaces, and everything has an emergency call system in case someone needs help quickly. The property has a card and game room, a cozy library nook with sunlight, a residents lounge, and internet throughout, plus regular housekeeping, laundry, and complete linen service are part of the monthly rate, which some folks find comforting since there's no nickel-and-diming for the basics.

Outdoors, people can take morning walks to the fountain, stop and listen to the water or watch for birds, tend the red flowers in the garden, or stroll on landscaped walkways when the weather feels good, and if someone wants to get out, there's a specially equipped bus for outings and trips that gets used for planned activities and devotional services. Inside, activities run daily and cover gardening, trivia, karaoke, stretching classes, pet programs, and more, all designed to keep folks involved, entertained, and connected-something that becomes more important with age.

Staff are around all hours of the day and night, with experience in both supervisory care and more hands-on help like bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, medication management, diabetic care, incontinence support, and all those basic needs that can get harder with age; they've even got medication technicians, a medical director who's a nurse practitioner, visiting healthcare professionals like nurses and therapists, and an interdisciplinary team for hospice care, which can help manage pain and honor residents' wishes with dignity. The building has controlled access for safety, transportation options including parking for residents, and monitoring and reminders for people with memory concerns.

Pelican Garden provides different levels of care-light for folks who just need a watchful eye, medium for those needing a bit more hands-on help, and support for those at risk of wandering or acting out, and residents can stay as their care needs grow. The community makes room for independence as much as possible, but doesn't shrug off the small details, handling laundry, meals, activities, and regular wellness checks, so people can truly focus on enjoying their time-with supportive staff, friendly faces, a relaxed garden setting, and comfortable, practical rooms to return to each evening.
