    Peaceful attentive assisted living community

I placed my loved one here and I'm very pleased - beautiful, resort-like setting with attentive, genuinely caring staff, strong nursing and rehab, and excellent social activities and outings. The executive director and concierge are accessible and responsive, housekeeping and med management reliable, and residents are engaged in a warm, family-like community with lovely grounds and walking paths. It gives me real peace of mind and I'd recommend it to families seeking high-quality assisted living and memory care.

    Summary of reviews

Overall impression: The Legacy at Highwoods Preserve presents as a modern, resort-style assisted living community with a strong emphasis on social engagement and visible caregiving presence. Many families and residents describe the community as welcoming, well-appointed, and clean, with a range of amenities—movie theater, game and craft rooms, private dining spaces—and an attractive nature-oriented setting. The community's strengths are most apparent in interpersonal areas: staff are widely characterized as compassionate and attentive, management is generally accessible, and social programming is frequent and varied.

Care and staffing: Clinical and therapy resources are available on-site, and reviewers commonly note effective physical-therapy support and capable nursing/med-tech personnel. Staff-resident relationships and individualized attention receive consistent praise, contributing to a perception of safety and emotional support. However, there are recurring operational concerns tied to staffing stability. Intermittent staffing shortages were associated with delays in personal-care assistance (including bathing and grooming), longer wait-times for bathroom help, and constrained support during meal service. These patterns suggest variability in direct-care coverage across shifts rather than a uniformly low level of attention.

Dining and dietary services: Dining is a mixed area. The facility offers restaurant-style meals with a chef and multiple-menu options, private dining rooms, and celebratory family meals that many families appreciated. At the same time, several reviewers described inconsistent food quality, odd menu choices, poorly executed entrees, and issues with meal temperature and presentation. There are also reports of chef turnover and perceptions that menu execution declined over time. Families should expect a strong dining concept but be prepared to monitor day-to-day meal execution and advocate when standards slip.

Activities and social life: The community's activity program is a clear strength. Reviewers repeatedly cite a robust calendar—daily events, weekly outings to restaurants and shopping, themed parties, games, exercise classes, and live music—that supports high engagement among residents. The social atmosphere is described as family-like and active, with opportunities for cognitive, recreational, and intergenerational programming.

Facilities and cleanliness: Physically, the building is modern and well-maintained; many reviewers praised the landscaping, tasteful interiors, and overall cleanliness. Maintenance responsiveness is frequently noted. Nonetheless, there are isolated sanitation and pest-control concerns in some resident rooms that families flagged; these should be investigated during tours and move-in inspections. Outdoor space was praised for nature views and walking paths, but some reviewers felt usable, dedicated garden or seating areas were limited or poorly located (for example, seating near utility areas).

Management, admissions, and fees: Management and executive leadership receive positive mentions for accessibility and proactive transition support, though there is mention of turnover in leadership which correlates with variability in admissions experience. Several families raised concerns about billing transparency, mid-term rent increases, and additional charges for services (such as therapy) that they expected to be included. There are also occasional reports of inconsistent front-desk staffing and communication tone, which can affect day-to-day administrative interactions.

Notable patterns and who it may suit: The Legacy at Highwoods Preserve is frequently recommended for families seeking an upscale, activity-rich assisted living environment with strong interpersonal caregiving and on-site therapy resources. Prospective residents who prioritize social programming, an attractive setting, and engaged staff are likely to be satisfied. Families whose primary concerns are consistently excellent culinary execution, guaranteed uninterrupted staffing levels, or larger included apartment footprints should probe those areas during a tour—ask specifically about staffing ratios by shift, meal-sample opportunities, pest-control protocols, and billing/itemized service inclusions. Overall, the facility appears to deliver a high level of social and clinical support for many residents while showing some operational variability that warrants direct discussion before move-in.

About The Legacy at Highwoods Preserve

The Legacy at Highwoods Preserve stands out as a continuing care retirement community in a two-story building, set on peaceful grounds within a nature preserve, so residents can often see wildlife and enjoy a quiet setting. Residents can choose from private studio or one-bedroom apartments with private bathrooms, and these units come with weekly housekeeping and laundry, making life easier without much upkeep to worry about. The Legacy provides several types of care all on one campus, including independent living for older adults who want to stay active and social without needing help, assisted living for those who need daily support with things like medications or bathing, skilled nursing for more intense medical needs, as well as memory care that serves people living with Alzheimer's disease or other dementias. Staff members are there 24 hours a day to help with emergencies and every day needs, and they're trained especially well to help people with memory impairments.

Residents have meals cooked fresh each day by the in-house culinary team, and the staff can accommodate special diets as needed, so nobody has to worry about cooking or grocery shopping anymore. Dining, beauty and transportation services are all available, and there's always someone around to help residents move from bed to wheelchair if that's needed. There's a strong focus on making sure residents have chances to meet friends and stay active through activities like church services, outings, book club, Bible study, bingo, and arts and crafts, plus exercise and wellness programs and both indoor and outdoor spaces to gather, which helps encourage both body and mind. Social and recreational events happen regularly, and there's a real feeling of kindness and caring community among residents and staff, with direct care workers both skilled and compassionate. The Legacy at Highwoods Preserve also provides respite care for short stays, which can help families who need a break or are looking after loved ones temporarily.

People can adjust their care needs over time without moving away, since the campus offers everything from independent living to skilled nursing, and there's specialized attention paid to each person's needs, whether high, medium, or low, especially in assisted living. They also offer a dedicated Memory Care Program crafted around each resident's abilities and needs in a comfortable, safe environment. The community fee is $2,500 as a one-time charge, and average studio rates are around $4,295 per month, but residents have the option to pick between several apartment styles including studio and one-bedroom suites. The facility is licensed as an Assisted Living Facility (#12715) and is an ALTA Senior Living community, so it provides dependable care as well as amenities like on-site therapy options, access to Concierge Doctors, and tools for planning and support, such as a glossary and stories from people who've lived there. The Legacy works hard to support not just the physical health of residents but also intellectual, emotional, and social well-being, making it a good place for seniors to continue living with dignity, social engagement, and a sense of belonging while letting staff handle the heavy lifting of daily chores and support.
