    Picturesque, caring, clean historic community

I moved my dad to this restored historic building seven years ago and have been very pleased - the picturesque garden, central location, and old-world ambiance feel like home. Staff from marketing Korey and Executive Director Rebecca to wellness Erin and the nursing team are patient, experienced, and communicative; family updates are timely and compassionate. Apartments are clean, updated, dog-friendly, and activities help residents make friends and enjoy life - a safe, welcoming community I'd recommend.

    Summary of reviews

Reviewers present a mixed but consistent picture: direct-care staff are often described as compassionate, attentive, and committed to residents' day-to-day comfort. Multiple accounts praise med-techs, CNAs, activity staff, and specific wellness-team members for timely, empathetic care and for running meaningful social programming. Several families highlighted successful transition support and positive social events that contribute to resident engagement and a community atmosphere. The facility's historic architecture, gardens and courtyard, and central Venice location are frequently cited as notable strengths.

At the same time, operational challenges recur across reviews and appear to affect the resident experience. Staffing levels and leadership continuity are inconsistent, with frequent administrator turnover and reports of overburdened staff performing multiple roles (medication assistance, dining service, cleaning). These workforce pressures are tied to delays in responding to call requests, limited one-on-one assistance, and longer-than-expected response times for routine needs.

Dining and nutrition present a variable picture: some families describe very good meals and enjoyable event food, while others report inconsistent food quality, limited portions, and instances where meal continuity was insufficient. Activity programming and community events are a positive counterpoint, with many residents engaged in outings and on-site events that families value.

Facility condition and maintenance are areas of concern. Reviewers describe a clearly aging building that, while attractive and historically rich in parts, shows signs of deferred maintenance: plumbing issues, mold remediation history, non-functioning fixtures, elevator outages, and grounds/parking-lot cleanliness problems. Sanitation and odor concerns in certain common areas and rooms were cited; these issues appear uneven across the property, with some units described as clean and updated and others as needing attention.

Management and communication patterns are mixed. Positive notes include visible corporate involvement at times and instances of proactive leadership turnaround under new administrators. Conversely, many families experienced unreturned calls, difficulty engaging on clinical or financial questions, opaque contract/notice terms, and inconsistent visitation or infection-control policies. There are also serious allegations regarding staff theft and financial misconduct; these are significant individual claims that have been raised alongside broader concerns about financial controls and resident-property safeguards.

Taken together, the reviews suggest a bifurcated experience: strong, caring front-line staff and meaningful programming contrasted with operational weaknesses in maintenance, staffing consistency, and management communication. Prospective residents and families would benefit from an in-person visit focused on (1) observing cleanliness and odor control in multiple locations, (2) asking for current staffing ratios and turnover history, (3) reviewing maintenance logs and elevator/utility reliability, (4) clarifying meal plans and portioning practices, and (5) verifying financial-protection measures and contract terms before committing. These checks can help determine whether the facility's strengths meet a particular resident's care, safety, and lifestyle needs given the reported variability.

Residents can choose from several floor plans, with apartments that have kitchenettes, private bathrooms, walk-in closets, and emergency call systems, so folks keep their independence while getting support. The place allows pets, which makes it feel even more like home, and there's a strong focus on making life engaging with a full calendar of social, educational, and cultural activities, from outings to art festivals and historic walking tours, to simple garden walks or fitness classes and wellness programs.

Each resident gets a customizable care plan, and memory care is personalized, with safe spaces, tailored routines, and extra attention for those with Alzheimer's and dementia. Building features include both indoor and outdoor common areas, gardens, elevators, a library, a lounge, and an activity center, while the dining offers restaurant-style meals three times a day, and the memory care area has special touches like wood ceilings, soft green walls, and natural light to create a welcoming spot.

The team here takes communication seriously, providing regular updates to families, and everyone tries to create a community where laughter, friends, and purpose are central. There's beauty and barber shops, devotional services, cable TV, and plenty of space for events, ensuring there's always something to look forward to or people to meet.
