    Warm attentive staff; clean, safe

I moved my mom here and I'm very pleased - the staff are warm, attentive and informative, and the place is spotless and well-kept with beautiful grounds. The apartment-style units are roomy (screened porches/kitchenette options), dining and activities are available, and free shuttle/transportation makes getting to appointments and outings easy. Great continuum of care, genuinely caring management, and excellent value for what you get - a safe, homey community I'd recommend.

    Summary of reviews

Hidden Lakes presents a mixed but distinct profile: many families and residents praise its compassionate staff, strong therapy services, and the convenience of a full continuum of care on a large, well-kept campus. The community offers a range of housing formats — villas, cottages, and apartments — with single-level and screened outdoor spaces that appeal to those seeking a home-like, low-key environment. On-site amenities commonly highlighted include meal service with delivery to villas, a transportation program for appointments and outings, pet-friendly policies, and an active schedule of events and volunteer opportunities.

Care quality and staffing are polarizing. Numerous comments describe attentive, kind caregivers, responsive nursing, and a coordinated therapy team that supports rehabilitation and daily needs. Conversely, there are repeated operational concerns about inconsistent staffing levels, variable staff conduct and family communication, and gaps in clinical oversight such as uneven adherence to care plans. These clinical and supervision gaps are among the most consequential patterns to investigate during a tour and in contract discussions.

Dining and activities produce mixed impressions. Several residents report home-style, well-prepared meals and a convivial dining program; others describe inconsistent food quality and separate charges or logistical barriers for villa residents to access the dining room. Activity programming is robust in some parts of the community, with a noted activities director and frequent outings, but other residents—especially those in smaller assisted or memory-care areas—find offerings limited or less well adapted to their needs.

The physical plant and maintenance record also show variation. The campus and grounds are frequently described as attractive and well maintained, but multiple accounts point to aging units, deferred upgrades, HVAC or in-room air problems, and maintenance shortfalls. There are also sanitation and pest-control concerns cited for specific areas. Prospective residents should inspect individual units for condition and confirm maintenance response times and scheduled capital improvements.

Management and costs are another area of divergence. Some families commend responsive leadership and improving operations under new management; others describe disorganization, inconsistent enforcement of rules across unit types, and rising fees with unclear billing practices. There are serious individual claims about financial and administrative transparency; those are substantial enough that families should ask for clear, written fee schedules, refund/charge policies, and explanations of any auxiliary charges (for dining, housekeeping, transportation, etc.).

Overall, Hidden Lakes may suit people looking for a campus-style community with strong therapy services, compassionate day-to-day caregivers, and villa/apartment living in a pleasant setting. At the same time, the reviews reveal operational inconsistencies—staffing, clinical oversight, dining logistics, maintenance, and management transparency—that justify careful, specific due diligence: tour current units, review care-plan and staffing ratios, request recent inspection or pest-control records, and obtain a clear written contract detailing fees and services before committing.

About Hidden Lakes Senior Living Community

Florida Baptist Retirement Center has a rich history that dates back to November 11, 1959, when it was chartered as an agency of the Florida Baptist State Convention in response to a growing need for senior ministry. The foundation of the center was laid in April 1960 with a generous donation of a homestead and 23 acres of land in Vero Beach by Walter and Elvira Buckingham. This pivotal contribution allowed the vision for a secure and enriching environment for senior adults to become a reality. Construction commenced later that year, culminating in the completion of the first phase in March 1961, when the initial residents were welcomed into their new home.

Over the following years, Florida Baptist Retirement Center expanded its facilities to serve the evolving needs of its community. By 1963, the addition of a congregate living facility enhanced the communal aspect of the center, while independent cottages were constructed to offer seniors more autonomy. In 1966, the blueprint for a skilled nursing unit marked a significant milestone, reflecting the commitment to providing comprehensive care. This next phase of development was realized in August 1968, when the nursing home opened its doors, introducing a new dimension of support and reinforcing the center’s dedication to comprehensive senior living.

The growth did not stop there. In 1992, a significant expansion saw the addition of 30 independent living villas and a 17-bed assisted living facility. This project represented the completion of the center’s original vision to offer a full continuum of care, ensuring residents could access the type and degree of support best suited to their needs.

Even after its sale on March 1, 2022, Florida Baptist Retirement Center has continued to provide a full spectrum of services to its residents. Today, the community offers 42 independent living units, a variety of studio and one-bedroom apartments, a 17-bed assisted living facility, and a 24-bed skilled nursing unit. The essence of the center’s history is grounded in its dedication to fostering a secure, uplifting, and Christian environment where senior adults can thrive independently, yet receive quality care as needed.

Florida Baptist Retirement Center’s mission remains rooted in compassionate service, making a tangible difference in the lives of residents, their families, and the dedicated staff. The center’s legacy and ongoing commitment are evident in its daily operations, emphasizing an environment where freedom, independence, and dignity are prioritized, while providing peace of mind through a continuum of quality care tailored to each individual.
