    Friendly, compassionate staff and care

I had a very positive experience - the staff were friendly, compassionate and family-like, CNAs and nurses gave attentive personal care, and housekeeping kept halls and rooms spotless. Therapy (PT Jody and the rehab team) helped me prepare to return home, management and social services were proactive, and meals/activities were plentiful and enjoyable. A few isolated communication and nursing lapses were noted, but overall I felt respected, safe, and well cared for.

    Summary review

Overall impression The reviews for Harborview Health Systems Pierce County are predominantly positive but contain meaningful variability. A majority of summaries highlight compassionate, friendly staff; thorough personal care; strong therapy and rehabilitation services; good food; and very clean facilities. Multiple reviewers emphasize staff members and teams who go "above and beyond," and several named employees receive high praise. At the same time, there are recurring concerns about inconsistent clinical performance and communication, and a few starkly negative reports that indicate serious problems for some residents or families. The net picture is one of a facility with many clear strengths and pockets of excellence, combined with uneven experiences that prospective residents and families should probe further when considering placement.

Care quality and clinical services Many reviewers report high-quality, respectful care delivered by caring CNAs, attentive nurses, and effective therapists. Rehab and PT services are singled out repeatedly for helping residents prepare to return home; a specific physical therapist (Jody) is praised by name. Triana Hall is mentioned as providing particularly high-quality care. Several accounts describe hospice nurses and social services as compassionate and supportive, and an on-site dietitian earns a positive mention. Multiple reviewers note organized appointment scheduling and transportation support, which families appreciated. Conversely, several reviews point to inconsistent nursing performance—some describe strong nursing teams, while others cite incompetence, poor care, or CNAs and nurses not performing their duties. This suggests variability by shift, staff member, or unit.

Staff, management, and communication A prominent strength across reviews is the staff culture in many parts of the facility: strong leadership, supportive management, proactive social services, and office staff who keep families informed. Reviewers name individuals (Erica Johnson, Allison Wiseman, CNAs Mandi and Chelsi, and the donor/Director of Nursing in some accounts) as going the extra mile. Positive staff morale and family-like treatment are commonly reported. However, a nontrivial number of reviews raise concerns about communication breakdowns, misinformation, or perceived dishonesty from nursing staff. These communication issues and isolated allegations of deceptive behavior are significant because they directly affect family trust. The mixed responses indicate that while management and many staff are highly effective, there are lapses that lead to strong negative impressions for some families.

Facilities, cleanliness, and dining Cleanliness is among the most consistently praised elements: many reviewers describe spotless halls and rooms, odor-free environments, and attentive housekeeping. Dining receives generally favorable comments—food is described as plentiful and delicious by several reviewers, and the dining area is noted as clean. At the same time, a few reviews cite problems such as cold food, a "dirty dipper," or other isolated food-service issues. Room decor is sometimes described as outdated even when rooms are large and well-maintained. Overall, the physical environment appears well-kept with occasional operational lapses.

Activities, atmosphere, and family impact Residents and families frequently describe a warm, home-like atmosphere and enjoyable activities (puzzles, scheduled daily activities). Many reviewers felt their loved ones were treated with dignity and personal attention and described the experience as life-improving or comforting. Several accounts emphasize the positive emotional impact on families, noting that staff treated residents as family and provided both clinical and emotional support.

Notable negative patterns and safety concerns Although most reviews are positive, there are several serious negative comments that warrant attention. Reports include failed respite care, misinformation by nurses, and at least one review explicitly labeling the facility "dangerous, unsafe, harmful" and recommending avoidance. These are outliers but are serious; they suggest that some residents experienced significant problems. The recurrence of comments about inconsistent nursing competence and poor communication points to systemic issues in certain shifts or units rather than universal facility-wide failure. Prospective residents should treat these concerns seriously by asking targeted questions, requesting references, and observing specific units and shifts during tours.

Conclusion and recommendations Harborview Health Systems Pierce County demonstrates multiple areas of strength: compassionate, often exceptional staff; strong therapy/rehab and discharge-preparation services; generally clean facilities; and a supportive, family-oriented atmosphere. Triana Hall and several named staff members are repeatedly praised as exemplars of the facility's best care. However, experiences are uneven—some families report poor nursing care, communication failures, and even dangerous conditions. Because of this variability, prospective residents and families should perform targeted due diligence: inquire which units provide the strongest outcomes (e.g., Triana Hall), ask about staff turnover and communication protocols, request to meet therapists and specific nursing leaders, and tour during meal times and activity hours. These steps will help confirm whether the particular unit and team match the positive experiences many reviewers report and mitigate the risk of encountering the negative situations described by others.
