    Clean, caring staff; occasional delays

I placed my mom (she has memory impairment) in this small, home-like 24-resident community and I'm impressed by how clean it is and how caring and attentive the staff and nurses are - medication management and BP checks are included and she's settled in and eating better. That said, staff can be slow or hard to reach at times, activities are limited, and a few maintenance/comfort issues need fixing. Overall I'm pleased and would recommend it, but expect some service delays and fewer amenities.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment: Reviewers present a generally positive view of Coastal Assisted Living-St with several recurring strengths and a handful of consistent concerns. The majority of comments praise the staff and the home-like, small-community environment; multiple families report that their loved ones are well cared for, comfortable, and welcomed by other residents. Several reviewers explicitly recommend the community and note improvements in residents (for example, appetite improvements and better medication management).

Care quality and staff: Staff are the most frequently mentioned strength. Numerous reviewers describe staff as friendly, caring, attentive, and helpful; several note person-centered care and that nursing staff perform routine health checks such as blood pressure monitoring. Medication management being included in the basic fee was specifically cited as a positive. However, there is variability in experiences: some reviews raise concerns about delays in service, staff responsiveness, and high staff turnover. A few families wish staff had more medical training or expertise. These mixed signals suggest strong interpersonal care from many employees but occasional gaps in clinical skills, timeliness, or continuity of caregivers.

Facilities and environment: The facility is consistently described as clean, spacious, and home-like, with an open kitchen and a small population (around 24 residents), which many families appreciate for its intimate feel. Private room options (with shared- or private-bath configurations) are available and are viewed positively. On the downside, a few reviewers mention maintenance problems (for example, a vent not fixed) and temperature issues (a room reported as cold). The small size that contributes to a family-like atmosphere is also noted as a limiting factor for amenities; several reviewers point out there are not many amenities beyond basic offerings. Additionally, there is a restrictive pet weight limit that may matter to prospective residents with pets.

Dining and activities: Comments about dining and activities are mixed. Several reviewers praise the menu and food quality, noting the appealing menu and appetite improvements for residents. Conversely, other reviewers report poor meals. Activities receive similar divided feedback: some reviews say there are lots of activities, while other families describe limited programming (example given: bingo only twice a week) and request more varied engagement options. This inconsistency suggests programming and dining experiences may vary by time, staff on duty, or individual expectations.

Management, access, and policies: Positive operational notes include the inclusion of medication management in the base fee and instances where cleaning and care needs are addressed promptly. However, several reviews point to management and access concerns: long wait times when arriving for tours, busy/unavailable office staff, and a lack of communication during some visits. Price is noted as high by some reviewers, though others consider the community a good value. Taken together, these comments indicate generally favorable value for many families but also highlight occasions of administrative friction that can affect first impressions and decision-making.

Patterns and recommendations: The dominant pattern is that Coastal Assisted Living-St excels at delivering warm, person-focused caregiving in a small, clean, home-like setting, which many families find comforting and recommend. The main areas for improvement are consistency and infrastructure: ensure meal quality and activity programming are reliable, address maintenance and temperature-control issues, reduce service delays, and improve staffing stability and medical training. Prospective residents and families should tour the community (noting some reviewers experienced long waits), ask specific questions about staffing levels/turnover, medical capabilities, activity schedules, dining menus, maintenance response times, and pet policies. Families moving an anxious or memory-impaired loved one should discuss transition supports and how the staff manages adjustment periods, since a few residents were anxious initially but later settled in.

Bottom line: Coastal Assisted Living-St appears to be a small, clean, and caring community with many satisfied families, particularly valuing the staff and close-knit atmosphere. However, experiences vary in the areas of meals, activities, responsiveness, and facility maintenance. Those considering the community should verify current staffing, programming, and operational details during an in-person visit to confirm consistency with the positive aspects highlighted by many reviewers.

    About Coastal Assisted Living-St

Coastal Assisted Living-St has a 24-bed personal care home that gives seniors a smaller, close-knit place to live, which is bigger than a family model home but smaller than a big facility, so folks find it comfortable without feeling crowded or forgotten, and it's more accessible for people who need help getting around. Staff provide 24-hour care and assist with daily needs like bathing, dressing, grooming, transfers, medication management, and health monitoring by a registered nurse, and there's always someone ready to help in case of emergencies thanks to their alert systems and round-the-clock supervision. There are private and semi-private rooms, including some studios and furnished rooms, with house rules that allow small dogs but not cats, and residents enjoy well-lit rooms, comfortable seating, and a home-like feeling with enough amenities to make things pleasant, like a dining room, all-day dining options, safety features in the bathrooms, and spacious common areas. Caregivers cook three nutritious meals each day and can handle dietary restrictions or provide special diets for people with diabetes or allergies, and they make meals with quality ingredients, aiming for both taste and good health. Residents have access to scheduled visits from occupational and physical therapists for those who need help with rehabilitation, and there are activities tailored to fitness, social connection, and spiritual life, along with games, hobbies, arts, field trips, and outings arranged either by the community or run by the residents themselves. There are also religious services on-site for those who want them, and families are encouraged to stay involved in the lives of loved ones, with the staff listening to residents' needs to provide care that fits. The grounds offer a garden, outdoor patios, walking paths, and other community spaces like a library, arts room, recreation room for movie nights, and a barber or salon, and there's transportation for shopping and outings, plus a free in-house transport service. Laundry, linen, housekeeping, and even dry cleaning are provided, and the all-inclusive rent makes it simpler for seniors and families to budget, with insurance accepted for payments. The place supports people aged 55 and over, including those who need incontinence care, diabetic care, and non-ambulatory care, as well as memory care for those with Alzheimer's or other cognitive issues, and throughout there's a culture of friendliness and helpfulness that has even been recognized with awards for meals, activities, and staff kindness. The facility is licensed by the state and aims to give each resident a safe, active, and independent life while helping with as much or as little as they need.
