    Compassionate clean welcoming post-stroke care

I placed my loved one here after a stroke and I'm very pleased-the nurses, CNAs and therapists are compassionate, knowledgeable and truly make it feel like family. The facility is clean, rooms are nice with great Wi-Fi, activities and admissions staff were welcoming, and transportation/meal options are convenient. I wish we'd found them sooner.

    Summary of reviews

Reviews present a mixed picture of care at this facility. Many families praise individual caregivers โ€” including nurses, CNAs, and therapists โ€” for compassionate, patientโ€‘focused interactions and strong rehabilitation outcomes. Physical therapy and restorative services receive frequent positive mention, with several families describing meaningful functional improvements after stays. The facility offers practical amenities such as spacious rooms, the ability to bring personal electronics, reliable Wiโ€‘Fi, transportation support, and an active activities program; these features are appreciated by visitors and residents who report positive shortโ€‘term stays.

At the same time, a consistent pattern of operational concerns emerges. Directโ€‘care responsiveness is uneven: reviewers describe delays or inconsistencies in bathing, toileting assistance, repositioning, and incontinence care. Staffing levels and turnover are repeatedly cited as underlying contributors to these gaps, and several reviewers link workload pressures to missed or delayed basic care. Related clinical concerns include reports of medicationโ€‘timing errors, catheter and woundโ€‘care issues, and other gaps in clinical management that families found troubling.

Housekeeping and facility condition are another area of contrast. Some reviewers describe clean, wellโ€‘maintained common areas and ongoing renovation work; others report sanitation and odor concerns in particular units, inconsistent laundry service, and deferred maintenance in resident rooms and bathrooms. Dining receives mixed feedback as well: flexibility to bring outside food or order meals is seen as a plus, but meal temperature and overall food quality are sometimes described as inconsistent.

Communication and leadership are notable drivers of family experience. Positive interactions with admissions staff and specific nurses or therapists are frequently highlighted, but many families express frustration with inconsistent incident reporting, limited updates about clinical changes, and perceived administrative opacity. There are also serious, isolated claims โ€” including allegations of missing personal items and concerns about financial handling โ€” that some families raised; these are presented here as allegations that warrant followโ€‘up by prospective families and regulators. Overall, the pattern is one of strong individual caregivers and therapy services offset by systemic operational weaknesses (staffing, clinical oversight, housekeeping, and management communication). Prospective residents and families should weigh the facilityโ€™s rehabilitation strengths and caring staff against the documented variability in dayโ€‘toโ€‘day nursing care and facility operations, and consider direct questions about staffing ratios, woundโ€‘care protocols, incidentโ€‘reporting practices, and any recent corrective actions during admissions visits.

    About Harborview Thomaston

Harborview Thomaston is a skilled nursing facility that provides both short-term and long-term care, and while it accepts referrals from many Atlanta and community hospitals, folks can also come for assisted living, rehabilitation, and memory support if they need it. This faith-based place includes prayer in its care plans, with a focus on caring, respect, integrity, and gratitude, and it's gone and gotten itself the Gold Seal of Approval from The Joint Commission, plus a Platinum Seal from the Georgia Department of Public Health for Antibiotic Stewardship. Residents get personalized care plans, and the staff helps with daily living, medication management, health monitoring, pharmacy, podiatry, ambulation, and even chores and appointment scheduling. There's 24-hour skilled nursing, and onsite physicians and nurse practitioners show up five days a week, with after-hours call support every day, while therapy staff for physical, occupational, and speech needs work as in-house employees. Families get regular updates, and folks receive help with paperwork and documentation for admission, which can be completed electronically or within a day, and the staff can guide everyone through wellness and recovery.

The rooms are spacious, and the Esteem Salon gives free grooming services, plus there's a first-class dining experience, outdoor covered patio, and scenic outdoor spaces that invite folks to spend some time outside. Harborview Thomaston also offers all kinds of therapies-pet visits, music, occupational and aromatherapy-along with exercise and cooking programs, activities for social and mental stimulation, and life skills training. For folks dealing with memory loss, there are memory impairment support programs with special life enrichment activities designed for them. The facility offers both nutritional and dietary supervision and keeps up with social, recreational, and wellness activities. Harborview Thomaston belongs to the American Health Care Association and the Georgia Health Care Association, which means it's connected to larger organizations. All in all, the staff works with families, doctors, and residents to set goals and match care to individual needs, and the leadership team oversees every step. There's a Facebook page for those who want updates or to see what life looks like. The facility stands ready to offer tours, and while a lot goes on, the basic aim is to provide steady care, plenty of support, and a bit of comfort for folks who need it most.
