    Warm homelike attentive trustworthy community

I've had my mom here for 20 months and have been very impressed by this family-owned, well-staffed place with engaged management. The staff are warm and professional, meals are homemade and plentiful from an open kitchen/interactive chef, the home-like facility is spotless with private baths, spa/salon, patio and plenty of activities (puzzles, church, entertainment). My mom is happy and well cared for - a welcoming, trustworthy community I'm glad we chose, with a little room to grow.

    Summary of reviews

The Homestead Assisted Living is consistently described as a small, family-owned community with a strong emphasis on personal, relationship-based care. Many families emphasize compassionate, attentive staff and an overall home-like atmosphere; reviewers frequently mention engaged administration, accommodating move-in processes, and managers who stay involved with residents and families. Clinical and medical support is portrayed as reliable by several families, and long-term residents and relatives often highlight respectful, dignified care.

Facility amenities draw positive remarks: the property offers private rooms with en-suite bathrooms, a large dining room, an open-concept kitchen with an interactive chef, an on-site spa and salon, and outdoor patio space used for events and grilling. Residents and visitors note puzzles, games, exercise equipment, church services, library access, and computer stations as regular programming resources. Housekeeping and general upkeep receive praise overall, with multiple comments about clean, well-maintained interiors and grounds.

Dining is a mixed area. Numerous accounts praise homemade meals and an engaged kitchen staff, but there is a distinct pattern of dissatisfaction among other families concerning meal quality, portion sizes, and scheduling (examples include long gaps between service times or early/late meal timing). This inconsistency in food service and nutritional balance is one of the most commonly cited operational concerns and is something prospective families should evaluate directly during a visit.

Staffing is another mixed theme. While staff are frequently described as caring, professional, and willing to go above and beyond, several families note turnover and transient staffing that can affect continuity of care. That pattern is reflected in comments about variable staffing levels during transitions or evenings. Communication and administrative responsiveness are generally praised, with specific mentions of helpfulness around insurance and deposits and of administrators who facilitate smooth transitions.

Operational and comfort issues to confirm in person include intermittent internet and limited landline/telecom reliability, and isolated housekeeping inconsistencies in common-area carpeting or hallways. A number of reviewers also express concerns about perceived value for cost, often tying that concern to dining quality and portioning rather than to staffing or the physical plant.

Overall, The Homestead will likely appeal to families seeking a smaller, community-oriented assisted living with personable staff, homestyle dining, and on-site amenities. Prospective residents and their families should prioritize direct observation of meal service, inquire about current staffing continuity and scheduling, and test telecom/internet functionality before committing, in order to ensure those operational aspects meet their expectations.

    About The Homestead Assisted Living

The Homestead Assisted Living sits as a medium-sized community with 36 beds in its Assisted Living facility, offering a range of options like independent living, assisted living, memory care, home health, and hospice services, and it's split across buildings with places like Building 3 having a facility nurse, Building 4 an RN, and Buildings 1 and 2 managed by an administrator and house manager. The place aims to feel like home, with private and semi-private suites that come fully furnished, some with kitchenettes, cable TV, WiFi, and even telephones for easy communication, and residents can choose between different room setups for both independence and support. There's always 24-hour staff on site, emergency call systems in place, and special care for men or women as needed, and if someone needs help with medications, bathing, grooming, getting dressed, or eating, staff can handle those needs, including help with two-person transfers or insulin shots based on the resident's care plan. The Homestead's outdoor areas have gardens and walking paths where folks can sit and relax or enjoy the sunshine, and there's lounges and common rooms indoors-good spots for planned events, movie nights, board games, or simply visiting with family and friends. Three home-cooked meals a day are served in accessible dining spaces with options for special diets like low-salt for hypertension or diabetes, and if someone prefers, the room comes with a kitchenette for making their own snacks, while staff manage all housekeeping, laundry, and linen services to keep things tidy and fresh. Residents can bring their own pets because of the pet-friendly policy, and there's even a traveling barber or hairdresser for haircuts. Homestead has scheduled activities each day, offering music and art programs, group outings, devotional services for those who want them, and community evening events, and there are fitness and wellness programs with access to a jacuzzi, steam room, and exercise areas, plus everyone can use the reading room, lounges, or yard. The place has transportation services-both for medical appointments, shopping trips, and spiritual events-with arrangements made for doctor's visits when needed, and there's support for folks coming for a short stay, as respite care is offered. The care team includes RNs, LPNs, a chaplain services director, social work director, activities and volunteer leader, maintenance, and housekeeping heads, all overseen by a medical director for home health and hospice, and mental wellness programs and memory care for Alzheimer's or dementia are available. Homestead supports specialized care with nurses after hours and hospice care at end-of-life, while a no-smoking policy covers all indoor areas and both public and private indoor spaces. The facility uses photo galleries and virtual tours to show rooms and amenities, and the activity calendar includes things like music therapy, pet therapy, tabletop games, and planned events to keep the days full and social, aiming to help seniors feel comfortable, supported, and at home.
