    Bright, well-maintained campus; comprehensive care

I toured this bright, well-maintained campus and was impressed - light-filled rooms, a sunny wide dining room with healthy gourmet meals, and lovely grounds. Staff were professional, attentive and helpful (nurse practitioners and move consultants available), and the on-site rehab, warm-water pool, exercise center and abundant activities/trips make it easy to stay active and engaged. It's a safe, welcoming community with comprehensive care options (independent, assisted, memory and nursing) all on one connected campus.

    Summary of reviews

Westminster Place in Evanston presents as a well-established, full-service senior campus with strengths in landscaping, physical plant upkeep and an abundant amenity set. Reviewers consistently highlight bright, well-lit apartments and communal areas, pleasant gardens and covered underground walkways that facilitate year-round movement across the campus. The facility offers a broad range of on-site amenities — theater, salon, library, exercise and aquatic facilities — and multiple care levels (independent, assisted living, nursing and memory care) within the same community, which supports transitions as needs change.

Clinical and caregiving services are described positively. Families and residents commonly praised attentive, professional staff and licensed clinicians, including nurse practitioners and strong physical-therapy offerings. Memory-care and nursing services were described as well cared for; staff anecdotes emphasize responsiveness and willingness to go beyond routine duties. The presence of on-site medical resources and an affiliated hospital are noted as conveniences that support clinical continuity.

Dining and programming are recurring strengths. The community emphasizes a health-focused menu with fresh vegetables and gourmet options; multiple reviewers described generous portioning, helpful dining staff and ample dining-room capacity. Activities are varied and frequent when fully available — offerings include arts and crafts, lectures, discussion groups, gallery and garden outings, regular movies and exercise classes. The campus’s fitness resources, including a warm-water pool, whirlpool and well-equipped fitness center, support an active lifestyle.

Operational patterns that prospective residents should weigh include cost and unit variability. The community operates at a premium price point with à-la-carte elements to some services, which several families considered expensive relative to expectations. Apartment sizes and storage vary across the campus; some units are noted as compact and a few bathrooms lack adequate maneuvering space for full wheelchair accessibility. The campus layout includes buildings that are physically separated, which can require additional transit for residents and families.

Other practical considerations: portions of the campus have gone through phased openings, and a few reviewers observed intermittent reductions in communal programming or temporary service limitations (notably during pandemic-related restrictions and in newly opened sections). Parking density in some areas was mentioned as detracting from the otherwise well-kept grounds. Overall, Westminster Place projects a community with strong caregiving, varied programming and extensive amenities, balanced against premium pricing and some variability in unit size, storage and full-service availability during phased transitions.

    About Westminster Place in Evanston

Westminster Place in Evanston sits on Grant Street at the Huss Pavilion, 1st Floor, and also has a location on Skokie Blvd, close to Old Orchard Mall, where you'll find a not-for-profit, faith-based community owned and run by Presbyterian Homes. The place operates 24 hours a day with a dedicated staff, including Gale Blanchet as Executive Assistant and James Curry as Human Resources Generalist and Recruiter. People coming here find a Life Plan Community model offering a full continuum of care, meaning you have choices like independent living, assisted living, skilled nursing, rehabilitation, memory care, and respite care, so you can move between the levels as needs change without moving away. The facility has 14 different apartment styles, including cottages and townhouses, some with first-floor residences, large windows, wall-to-wall carpeting, big closets, adjustable heat and air, and kitchens with all the main appliances, so you get open floor plans from 585 up to 2,377 square feet, one- and two-bedroom layouts, and views of landscaped courtyards-these have stone walking paths, big fountains, and lots of plants, and inside are gathering spaces with high ceilings, skylights, and colorful décor. The community's called "continuing care" because it tries to keep people comfortable and independent while giving help when it's needed, so there are dedicated geriatric social services, counseling, psychiatrists and psychoanalysts, disaster recovery resources, and dementia-friendly care, and every health level gets covered, from short-term respite care for caregivers who need a break, to long-term skilled nursing with five-star rehab services and personalized recovery plans after illness, injury, or surgery. People who want to be part of the community early can join Club 1904, which is the priority wait list and lets members choose residence size, get first pick for care and rehab, access community events, free relocation help and assessments, free meals and happy hours, plus the wellness center and fitness classes. Westminster Place has a Member Benefits Program and Member Directory to keep people involved, with plenty of events like the Fundraiser's Forum and Spring Ecumenical Conference, and offers things like the POAMN Older Adult Ministry Guide and an affordable housing toolkit, so there are a lot of resources that help with aging, health, and different needs. The community values seven kinds of wellness-social, physical, intellectual, spiritual, environmental, emotional, and community-which means they focus on more than health, and everyone has chances to connect through programs, services, and daily conveniences tied to senior living.
