    Very pleased with excellent care

I moved my mom here and have been very pleased - the building is beautiful and spotless, staff are warm, attentive and professional, and residents clearly look happy and well cared for. Meals are excellent, activities (including memory-care programming) are thoughtful, and the community feels safe, home-like and well managed; I would definitely recommend it.

    Summary of reviews

Overall impression: Charter Senior Living of Godfrey is frequently described as a clean, well‑appointed, and recently constructed community with a strong home‑like atmosphere. Families and residents consistently highlight warm, compassionate caregiving and a sense that staff members prioritize resident dignity and social engagement. The facility's physical layout, studio apartments, spacious common areas, garden access and pet‑friendly policies contribute to a residential rather than institutional feel.

Care and staff: Care quality is repeatedly characterized as attentive and family‑focused. Reviewers emphasize personalized attention, CNAs and nurses who greet residents by name, proactive clinical communication with families, and assistance that preserves independence when possible. Leadership and administrative staff are often noted as accessible and helpful during transitions. That said, there are isolated concerns about staff conduct and professionalism; these appear intermittent rather than systemic but have affected family confidence in certain cases.

Dining and activities: Dining is a clear strength — reviewers describe restaurant‑style meals, a wide selection of menu options, and staff who engage residents during meals. Several accounts liken the dining experience to a family gathering. The activity program is robust, with daily calendars, live music, movies, bingo, visiting entertainers and outings. Some residents would like broader variety (for example, more themed evenings or additional event types), so activity programming may feel repetitive for certain preferences.

Facilities and services: Amenities are comprehensive for an assisted‑living community and include on‑site therapy services, a beauty salon, game room, library, and memory‑care space. The grounds and outdoor visitation options have been helpful, particularly during infection‑control periods. The building is generally well maintained and described as pleasant and odor‑controlled by many families; however, a few comments raise sanitation and laundry‑management concerns that warrant monitoring.

Management, policies and patterns to watch: Two recurring operational issues stand out. First, several families expressed dissatisfaction with pricing, billing transparency, and changes after ownership transitions; examples include perceived unexpected fees and disputes about the level of care being billed versus delivered. Second, there are mentions of documentation lapses in clinical records (for example, medication or blood‑sugar entries) and occasional communication lapses about policies such as overnight‑stay rules or payment procedures. These operational weaknesses — billing clarity, care‑level alignment, and consistent clinical documentation — are the primary areas prospective residents and families should review closely during tours and contract discussions.

Bottom line: The community is broadly praised for its caring staff, comfortable environment, good dining, and active social life, making it a strong candidate for people seeking an engaged, homelike assisted‑living setting. Prospective residents and families should, however, confirm pricing and contract terms, review billing and payment policies, and ask specific questions about clinical documentation and property‑security practices to ensure alignment with their expectations.

About Charter Senior Living of Godfrey

Charter Senior Living of Godfrey sits in a quiet neighborhood in Godfrey, Illinois, within reach of Saint Anthony's Health Center and Alton Memorial Convenient Care, which helps if someone needs to get to a doctor quickly, and right near places like Shivers Frozen Custard and the Made. by Lia café if someone wants a treat or a cup of coffee. This place welcomes pets, so folks can bring cats or dogs if they like, and there are even special pet-friendly programs. The staff provides different levels of care, from independent and assisted living to short-term stays, nursing home care, and specialized memory care for Alzheimer's and dementia. Memory care residents live in a purpose-built section with a secured courtyard that has a paved walkway, water feature, and patio furniture where it's calm and quiet, and Charter's Flourish℠ Memory Care program offers support for memory-related problems. The building has wide doors, wheelchair accessibility, walk-in showers, accessible bathrooms, and large vanities, making it easy for those with mobility needs to get around safely. Nurses are there all the time, with a doctor on call, so residents get round-the-clock care and help with things like medication, diabetes care including insulin injections and blood sugar checks, incontinence support, supervision, and reminders for daily activities like using the restroom, grooming, or getting to meals. There's help for behavioral problems and for residents who might wander, with secure doors and bracelets that ring alarms to help keep people safe, and staff are ready to handle other special needs.

Meals are served in shared dining spaces, in the privacy of a resident's apartment, or through Anytime dining, which means people can eat when they're ready, not just at set times, and the kitchen can handle special requests for low sodium, low sugar, vegan diets, or room service if someone wants to eat by themselves. Private apartments in both assisted living and memory care come with kitchenettes, big bright windows, comfortable seating, and space for personal things, including studio apartments for memory care residents that have dining tables and roomy closets with wire shelves for easy use. The community has spaces for billiards in a spacious game room, a library, a bistro, a community room with tables and comfortable chairs, and both indoor and outdoor spots to relax or do activities like gardening or stretching. The activity director keeps the schedule full, and residents take part in arts and crafts, group trips, lectures, and wellness classes, plus there are devotional services and partnerships with local organizations so folks can stay engaged however they like.

Short-Term Stays and respite care let guests use all the same amenities, and visitors are welcome any time, day or night, which makes it friendly to families. Parking is available for people who drive, and transportation is offered both for free and for a fee. The leadership team and caregivers aim for a family-like atmosphere built on personal relationships and support, and staff try to treat every resident like they're part of the family, giving help adapted to each person's needs so they can have as much independence as possible. Connections with groups like Joe & Bella adaptive apparel help support comfort and independence, and the mission here is to serve with heart while respecting preferences and abilities. People can keep in touch with the community or see updates through the facility's Facebook page, and the whole place tries to provide a calm, engaging, and uplifting daily life for everyone, whether someone just needs a little help or more focused care for dementia or medical issues.
