    Attentive clean supportive short-term rehab

I spent six weeks in rehab here and was very pleased. The nurses, CNAs and therapists (Jody for PT, Jenn for speech) were attentive, professional and genuinely caring, and kept my family informed. Rooms are clean, roomy and updated with lift chairs and ample storage; meals are delicious in a family-style dining room and activities keep residents engaged. I felt safe, supported in therapy, and would recommend this facility for short- or long-term care.

    Summary of reviews

Metropolis Rehabilitation & Health Care Center elicits broadly positive feedback for clinical rehabilitation, staff attentiveness, and resident engagement, yet reviews also reveal operational inconsistencies that prospective families should assess during a tour. Many families describe strong, compassionate nursing and CNA care and highlight the therapy team (physical, occupational and speech) as a major strength; reviewers frequently credit therapy with measurable progress and timely independence goals. Clinical communication is generally characterized as timely and informative, with administration providing updates, milestone reminders, and coordination around discharge planning or Medicaid matters.

Dining and social programming are recurring strengths. Multiple family accounts emphasize a homelike dining area, well‑prepared meals and snacks, holiday meals, and a broad activities schedule that includes seasonal parties, games, and classes that promote socialization. The facility’s recently renovated rooms, lift chairs, and ample storage are commonly perceived as comfortable and modern; many reviewers note a pleasant, resident‑focused atmosphere and effective transportation assistance and case coordination.

Despite these positive themes, several operational concerns appear repeatedly. Cleanliness and sanitation practices are described as variable: while many note clean, updated rooms, others report odor concerns and housekeeping inconsistencies in certain areas. Staffing levels and supervision are uneven according to some accounts, with specific references to delayed assistance, unattended personal‑care situations, and incidents related to transfer or shower supervision; these point to potential gaps in staffing coverage and transfer‑safety practices rather than isolated clinical decisions.

There are also concerns about staff conduct and professionalism, including allegations of theft and substance misuse in a small number of strong complaints. Visitor interactions and reception have been described as inconsistent by some families, sometimes creating a perception of an unwelcoming tone. These issues suggest variability in frontline management and culture across shifts.

Overall, Metropolis offers well‑regarded rehabilitative services, engaged therapy teams, enjoyable dining and activities, and many examples of attentive nursing and administration. At the same time, variability in housekeeping, staffing coverage, supervision during personal care, and questions about staff conduct are patterns worth exploring. Prospective residents and families should validate staffing ratios, housekeeping and infection‑control practices, supervision and transfer‑safety protocols, and the facility’s processes for addressing personnel concerns during an on‑site visit and preadmission conversation.

About Metropolis Rehabilitation & Health Care Center

Metropolis Rehabilitation & Health Care Center sits under Walnut Creek Management Company LLC, managed since January 2005, and is part of Tutera Senior Living & Health Care, running as a for-profit corporation. The facility offers a wide range of care, like Long-Term Care, On-Site Dialysis, Rapid Recovery & Rehabilitation, and has a focus on different needs, such as memory care and dementia management. Residents get meals planned by chefs and dietitians, so the food's both nutritious and flavorful, served up restaurant-style, and folks can choose from a menu that suits their health needs. The therapy gym comes well-equipped with machines and exercise gear for people of all physical abilities, and there are skilled teams that provide occupational, speech, and physical therapy, plus wound care. What makes it stand out is the on-site dialysis and private rehab-to-home suites, helping people recover from hospital stays, surgery, accidents, or illness.

The Center provides specialized care in areas like neurology, psychiatry, and nephrology, along with 24-hour skilled nursing care from licensed nurses, with nurse staffing at about 3.02 hours per resident per day, though the nurse turnover rate was reported at 47.4%. People live in private rooms and can take part in daily life enrichment activities, ranging from exercise groups and social gatherings to different recreation options, making sure everyone has a chance to stay active. The approach focuses on overall well-being, weaving wellness activities and programs throughout the day, aiming for a holistic kind of health. There are personalized care plans for each resident and the clinical team looks to promote comfort and recovery with skilled services.

The place has amenities for comfort, including dining rooms made to feel inviting, therapy rooms, activity areas, and special treatment rooms. With about 78 residents per day on average and 2299 certified beds, Metropolis Rehabilitation & Health Care Center stays busy. There's a focus on safety and quality of life, but there have been 16 deficiencies found in inspections, including concerns about resident rights, clean and homelike surroundings, and making sure areas are free from hazards. The Center supports family caregiving and provides help with long-term care insurance. Reviews show a high average rating of 4.5 out of 12 reviews, and people often mention the support and kindness of the staff. There's no sense in glossing over the challenges, but the facility works to provide levels of care, lifestyle choices, and recovery help in a structured way, with professional referrals as needed, and keeps its features, amenities, and services organized for residents' comfort.
