    Spacious updated community, attentive staff

I toured both virtually and in person and chose this beautifully updated community for my mom - the décor, spacious apartments and welcoming atmosphere exceeded my expectations. The staff are knowledgeable, kind and attentive (Director of Nursing Susan Healey stands out) and Joanne in sales made the move-in seamless; there are plentiful activities, good meals, and residents genuinely seem happy. My mom loves it here and I would recommend this clean, well-run community.

    Summary of reviews

Palos Heights Senior Living receives consistent praise for its frontline staff, physical environment, and range of resident programming. Families and residents commonly describe caregiving personnel as warm, attentive, and professional, and many reviews highlight accessible on-site nursing, engaged memory-care leadership, and helpful move-in support. The building itself is frequently noted as modern, clean, and well maintained, with in-unit conveniences (washer/dryer, walk-in showers), safety features, and multiple community amenities such as a movie theater, garden spaces, salon, and activity rooms.

Dining and daily living are mixed areas. The community offers three meals daily, snacks, and an inclusive monthly fee structure that covers many services; early impressions of the dining program are often positive. However, recurring concerns include inconsistent meal quality, portioning, and menu choices that some families view as high in salt/fat or not well aligned with senior dietary needs. Several accounts link changes in food quality to chef turnover and service adjustments. Reviewers also note the bistro/snack-service limitations that began during the pandemic and a desire to see that amenity restored.

Activities and social life are clear strengths. The community provides a broad calendar of programming — exercise classes, arts/crafts, themed parties, live entertainment, outings, and social events — that families attribute to improved mood and engagement for residents. Staff-facilitated transportation and organized outings are additional positives that support social connection and access to the surrounding area.

Operational and management issues are the primary source of concern. Reviewers describe variability in staffing levels and turnover that can affect care continuity, dining service, and housekeeping schedules. Communication gaps from management and billing offices are repeatedly mentioned: unclear fee structures, additional charges (for supervision, escorts, medication management, toiletries), and difficulties resolving billing disputes. More serious are multiple accounts alleging mishandled deposits, delayed refunds, and unresolved financial disputes; these items are significant enough that prospective residents should seek clear, written explanations of deposit and refund policies before committing.

Clinical continuity and policy matters also warrant attention. Some families describe inconsistent responses to clinical events, limitations in readmission or placement after hospitalization, and frustration with a policy that restricts consideration of outside professional opinions. Prospective residents should clarify the community's policies on readmission, external clinical input, medication management fees, and what is included in the base monthly rate.

Bottom line: Palos Heights offers a well-appointed, activity-rich environment with numerous staff and facility strengths that many residents and families find very satisfying. At the same time, there are recurring operational patterns — food consistency, staffing variability, management communication, and financial/billing transparency — that prospective residents should investigate directly. Recommended due diligence: review contract and fee schedules carefully, ask about chef and staffing stability, confirm policies on clinical readmission and outside clinical opinions, and get written guarantees for deposit/refund terms prior to move-in.
