    Resident praises safe caring community

I live at Fairhaven and am very satisfied overall. The staff are consistently friendly, caring and helpful, the building is immaculate with strong safety features (hall rails, clear floors, pendants/call lights) and 24-hour nursing and varying care levels give me peace of mind. I enjoy the active programs-exercise classes, movies, parties, knitting and church services-plus spacious apartment-style rooms, in-unit laundry, gym, salon and beautiful grounds. I feel welcomed, safe and part of a caring Christian community.

    Summary of reviews

Fairhaven Nursing Home presents as a large, well-kept campus with a broad spectrum of housing and care options, extensive communal amenities, and an active resident life. Reviewers consistently highlight the facility’s attractive grounds, walking trails, well-maintained public spaces, and on-site conveniences such as a salon, community store, exercise rooms and putting greens. Many families and residents describe apartment-style units for independent living as spacious and comfortable, and point to visible safety features—hall rails, unobstructed corridors, call pendants—that support daily living.

Staff and clinical care elicit mixed but specific impressions. Numerous comments emphasize caring, familiar, and professional staff who know residents’ habits and provide continuous daily support; 24-hour nursing availability and supportive care are also noted. At the same time, there are recurring concerns about inconsistent staffing levels and nursing availability that can affect responsiveness. Several reviews point to gaps in incident response and family communication, and isolated concerns about staff conduct and supervision. There are also reviewer concerns about medication management practices, including the use of psychotropic medications; prospective families should confirm current medication protocols and staffing ratios during an intake discussion.

Dining and nutrition are experienced unevenly. The dining areas are often described as clean and well-organized, and some reviewers praise the food. Others find the menu and meal quality unsatisfactory. Housekeeping and maintenance receive generally positive mentions—carpets refreshed, rooms painted, and common areas kept tidy—yet some private rooms have older finishes (for example, carpeting styles) and layouts that reviewers describe as less compatible with mobility aids.

Activity programming and community life are clear strengths. Fairhaven offers a broad array of organized programming—exercise classes (including instructor-led groups), movies, knitting, birthday celebrations, church services, and other social hours—that support an engaged resident population. The Christian, family-oriented culture is prominent for those seeking faith-based programming and ministry opportunities.

Management and financial practices are areas to evaluate closely. Reviewers note a range of pricing experiences: some find purchase/lease options reasonable for independent units, while others cite high monthly costs, expensive prescriptions, and extra charges for one-on-one care. Comments also mention challenges coordinating transportation and occasional restrictive policies (for example, shared-room arrangements). Families should request a clear fee schedule, ask about extra-service charges, and confirm the facility’s policies on shared rooms and discharge criteria.

Bottom line: Fairhaven offers a well-maintained, activity-rich campus with many supportive amenities and staff who build positive relationships with residents. However, prospective residents and families should assess current staffing levels, medication-management practices, specialized therapy availability (orthopedics and cognitive care), room condition and accessibility for mobility devices, and the facility’s fee structure. A tour, review of state inspection records, and direct conversations with nursing leadership and billing/placement staff are recommended to clarify those operational areas before making decisions.

    About Fairhaven Nursing Home

Fairhaven Nursing Home sits on North Alpine Road, just about half a mile south of Riverside Boulevard in northeast Rockford with churches, shopping, parks, and restaurants close by, which makes for an easy and comfortable location if you want to keep in touch with the wider community and your own routines, and it's been here for over 55 years, started by the greater lakes district of Evangelical Free Churches, which is why folks might notice the faith-based programs, prayer groups, and hymn sings that keep people connected to their beliefs and each other, plus daily life here runs with caring teamwork among staff which spreads through what they call the Fairhaven family, giving everyone a sense of belonging and making things feel settled and familiar. The building's three stories hold different living options for folks, whether someone wants independent duplex living that's spacious and maintenance-free, or prefers an apartment or studio with services and safety features considered, or maybe needs supportive care or nursing care, which means staff can help if you've got more physical or cognitive needs, all the way up to their healthcare center rooms for people needing more person-centered nursing assistance, whether you want a private or shared layout. People here have a choice among private rooms, shared rooms, and different floor plans, so folks tend to find something that matches their needs, and the place has both big and small accommodations. Residents get three restaurant-style meals a day, housekeeping every week, laundry and linen services, and for those who want some extra attention, there's a full-service beauty salon right on site, along with scheduled transportation for personal appointments. Staying active's easy with a big exercise room and group fitness classes that can work for any physical condition, and there are activities like movies, birthday parties, and knitting or crochet groups to bring people together, plus regular newsletters and an event calendar so you're always in the loop. Folks who prefer spiritual connections will find classes and fellowship, while everyone can enjoy friendly social activities or just quiet time in the garden or lounge areas, and all that comes with the goal of providing a comfortable lifestyle that honors quality of life the way the founders hoped, with a focus on making things easier and safer while still supporting each resident's independence as much as possible, and with a Five-Star Rating from CMS and a non-profit, faith-rooted mindset, Fairhaven's stayed steady in its mission to bring care and comfort year after year for the seniors who call it home.
