    Professional friendly nurses; clean, homey

I had an overall very good experience - professional, friendly nurses and techs, hardworking caregivers, and helpful hospice staff and volunteers. The facility felt clean, homey, and charming with no strong odors, good meals, and a smiling front desk; I would recommend it.

    Summary of reviews

The reviews present a mixed picture of care and operations at Good Samaritan Home Health Center and Residential. Positive comments center primarily on the dining experience and on the availability of shared-room options; several reviews also note that the facility has, at times, taken corrective action after formal complaints. At the same time, multiple operational concerns are consistently raised and deserve attention from prospective residents and families.

Care quality appears to be affected by staffing levels. Reviewers describe insufficient staffing and staff who seem overextended, which can contribute to delays in routine assistance and a perception of limited responsiveness. The presence of double rooms is noted as an available accommodation, but shared rooms can compound the challenges of delivering individualized attention when staffing is thin.

Staff-related issues are a recurring theme. There are concerns about staff conduct and professionalism, including specific worries about interactions with sitters and third-party caregivers. Reviewers describe situations that suggest gaps in supervision of contracted personnel and uneven adherence to professional standards. The facility’s documented response to some complaints — including compensation or corrective steps — indicates there is a mechanism for remediation, but the pattern described suggests responses can be reactive rather than consistently proactive.

Dining is a relative strength: several comments describe the food positively. There is limited information about the availability and quality of scheduled activities; reviewers did not emphasize programming, so activity offerings require direct inquiry during a visit.

Facility condition and environment are other areas of concern. The phrase "falling apart" in reviews translates to perceived maintenance and upkeep deficiencies; prospective visitors should inspect common areas and resident rooms for signs of deferred maintenance. Reviewers also describe a tense social environment, which may reflect staff turnover, understaffing, or unresolved resident-family conflicts; such an atmosphere can affect day-to-day wellbeing even when basic services are provided.

Management and communication patterns emerge as significant factors. Inconsistent statements from management and variability in how issues are handled were noted, and some families indicated they removed residents as a result. There are also serious concerns raised about financial practices involving sitter charges and interactions with contracted caregivers; these have been described in ways that warrant careful verification and, in some cases, formal inquiry. Overall, the pattern suggests that prospective residents and their families should prioritize questions about staffing ratios, supervision of third-party caregivers, financial safeguards, complaint processes, and recent maintenance efforts when evaluating this facility.

About Good Samaritan Home Health Center and Residential

Good Samaritan Home Health Center And Residential offers skilled nursing care, assisted living, and memory care services as a Continuing Care Retirement Community in Indiana, and since it's non-profit, residents get care that focuses on their well-being without extra costs for profit, and you'll find nurse practitioners working right in the building to track quality and coordinate care, so there's plenty of support for those who need short-term rehab or help after surgery, with services like IV therapy, wound care, tracheotomy and colostomy care, and even bariatric support, and there's encouragement for family and friends to join in when making care plans, as residents get respect and dignity along with services like speech, physical, and occupational therapy. The community supports people with mild cognitive impairment, dementia, or Alzheimer's disease with secure memory care areas and staff trained for these needs, and for daily living help, residents get bathing and dressing assistance, help with medication, and a 24-hour emergency call system with in-unit pendants, so everybody stays safe, plus the rooms here can have private bathrooms, air conditioning, and kitchenettes if that's something that matters to folks, and there are beauty salon services, laundry, and housekeeping to help keep things going along smoothly. The dining here can handle special dietary needs, including diabetic and allergy-sensitive diets, and meals come restaurant-style, so you get some choice and dignity around food, and you'll find fitness rooms, walking paths, gardens, a movie theater, a library, and places to gather for games and music, and they do a lot of scheduled and resident-run activities, including arts and movie nights. Ancillary services like podiatry, dental, audiology, and optometry, plus help with transportation and parking, mean daily needs don't have to be a worry, and there's Wi-Fi, cable TV, and furnished rooms for comfort, and the staff assists with things like housekeeping, moving in, and laundry, with transportation to appointments and community programs to help folks connect. The community here aims to give support after hospital stays, lower the chance for re-hospitalization, provide both long- and short-term care, and handle complex cases, including pulmonary, cardiac, orthopedic, and stroke recovery, plus hospice and respite care, and across their facilities - including the Good Samaritan Home and Rehabilitative Center in Oakland City and locations in Evansville - they provide consistent standards of care under the Social Care Network, so there's always a dedicated team ready to help, whether it's with medication management, support through a memory care program, or simply making sure the atmosphere remains warm, caring, and comfortable. Medicaid and Medicare are accepted for payment, and there are both private pay and supportive services for families.
