    Warm staff and excellent amenities

I moved my mom here and have been consistently impressed - staff are warm, attentive, and helpful, and the campus and grounds are beautiful. The property offers diverse, upscale housing (cottages, condos, attached homes) plus independent, assisted and memory care, with excellent on-site amenities: pool/aquatic center, gym with trainers, strong physical therapy, massage, many classes, outings and entertainers, and a full-time chaplain with lovely church services. Dining is very good and the community feels well-run, organized, and welcoming.

    Summary of reviews

Hoosier Village presents as a large, well-appointed senior living campus with a broad range of housing choices and lifestyle options. Reviewers consistently describe attractive grounds, a gated entrance and a mix of duplexes, cottage-style homes and condo-sized residences alongside apartments in the main building. The community emphasizes active living: an aquatic center, full fitness facilities, robust programming (bingo, classes, musical performances, crafts, bus trips and guest speakers), scheduled transportation and a community garden are highlighted features. Families also note an on-site chaplain and regular worship services as a valued offering.

Care and staffing impressions are mixed. Many families praise individual staff members, therapy teams and the warm atmosphere of the health center; physical and rehabilitation therapy are frequently described as strengths. At the same time, reviewers raise operational concerns: staffing levels are uneven, clinical coverage (including registered-nurse availability) is limited at times, and some memory-care areas lack consistent dementia-focused training and supervision. Several reviewers described delays in responding to calls or alarms and variability in caregiver availability, which translate into perceived gaps in day-to-day clinical oversight.

Dining and activities receive similarly mixed commentary. The facility offers multiple dining rooms and diverse meal options; some reviewers describe high-quality meals and a wide variety of dining experiences. Others characterize food quality as inconsistent and note interruptions to meal service. Activities programming and transportation are generally strong features—organized outings, entertainers, fitness classes and social spaces are recurring positives—though activity consistency can vary by building and resident cohort.

The physical plant is notable for both its amenities and its scale. Newer buildings, a luxury lobby area and well-maintained outdoor areas contribute to an upscale feel. There is also clear heterogeneity across the campus: some older buildings and wings are described as run-down or less well maintained, and the campus footprint means residents may need transportation (golf carts or vehicles) to reach main dining or activity hubs. Unit sizes range widely, with some condo-style units offering generous square footage and garages.

Management and policy themes recur in reviews. Marketing and admissions materials present a polished, state-of-the-art image, but several families raised concerns about transparency in billing and advance-care pricing; unexpected charges and limited discount flexibility for future care were cited. Reviewers also perceive a tension between visible investments in appearance and amenities and the level of investment in staffing and clinical training. Policies in memory care (for example, mobility restrictions) and variability in staff experience were also called out as areas needing clearer communication or revision.

In sum, Hoosier Village offers substantial lifestyle amenities, varied housing formats, and strong therapy and activity programs that appeal to many prospective residents. At the same time, consistent clinical staffing, dementia-care training, response timeliness and billing transparency emerge as the principal operational concerns families should evaluate during visits. Prospective residents and families would be well served to inspect specific buildings, review staffing and clinical-coverage patterns, ask for written explanations of memory-care policies and fee structures, and observe mealtime and response-time practices during a tour.

    About Hoosier Village

Hoosier Village is a nonprofit retirement community for seniors located near Zionsville, just outside Indianapolis, and it sits on 300 acres with landscaped gardens, walking trails, a tranquil pond area especially near Memory Care, and a putting green surrounded by trees and benches, so there's plenty of quiet places to relax or walk a dog in the leash-free park. The Oaks Duplex in the Memory Care setting features spacious gray homes with white trim and three-car garages, while Magnolia Trace townhomes have high-end finishes, private elevators, balconies, butler's pantries, and large garages. Residents choose from maintenance-free cottages, apartments, duplexes, and townhomes, all set in a neighborhood with modern conveniences, covered entryways, and well-kept grounds.

The community offers a full continuum of care with independent living, assisted living, adult day care, nursing and rehab, memory care, and home health services, so residents can move between levels of care if they need to. The health center is on-site, with Care Plus Home Health Care offering support for bathing, medication, and mobility, and the facility is licensed by the Indiana State Department of Health. Hoosier Village has been serving seniors with independent living, memory care, assisted living, and rehabilitation since 1952, and the nursing care covers physical, occupational, and speech therapies.

There are plenty of amenities like a heated indoor pool, a hot tub, fitness and exercise rooms, and a ramp for easy access to the smaller pool nearby, as well as a fitness center with machines for strength and flexibility. The chapel stands out with tan siding, stone accents, and neat landscaping for religious or spiritual gatherings. The library has a fireplace, comfortable seating, and bookshelves, making it a good spot for reading or small group meetings. Residents enjoy daily activities, including cooking demos, exercise classes, water aerobics, art classes, games, book clubs, musical entertainment, and life enrichment programs, with social clubs and outings into the community.

Dining happens in restaurant-style spaces with a warm setting, and regular meal preparation and housekeeping are handled by staff, plus they take care of mowing, snow shoveling, and shrub trimming for independent living residents, so things stay tidy. The grounds have benches, trails, and a tiered fountain in a garden area that adds to the peaceful feeling, and there's always a variety of activities for life enrichment and staying active. Hoosier Village also provides easy transitions to different levels of care, with on-site health and rehab for medical needs and support in daily living, and residents know there's on-site health care for peace of mind as they age. The community uses Facebook and Meta features for logging in and communication, with staff assisting when needed.
