    Caring knowledgeable staff, excellent rehab

I stayed here for rehab and short-term care and was very pleased. The nurses, CNAs (Donna was especially attentive), therapists and management were knowledgeable, caring and respectful; therapy felt like family, pain was well managed, rooms and common areas were spotless, meals/snacks were delicious, laundry and admissions/discharges were smooth, and the overall atmosphere felt safe and home-like - I would gladly recommend this facility.

    Summary of reviews

Newburgh Healthcare elicits a wide range of experiences. Positive accounts emphasize compassionate direct care: nursing staff and certified nursing assistants are frequently described as attentive and personable, and daily personal-care assistance (including help with baths) is noted. The facility has a clear rehabilitation focus; multiple accounts praise PT/OT services and successful short-term rehab outcomes. Housekeeping and laundry are often described as prompt, and many families commented on clean, well-maintained rooms and common areas, comfortable accommodations with pleasant window views, and adequate parking.

Dining and activities are highlighted as strengths by many families. Several reviews referenced good-quality meals, regular snack availability, and responsive kitchen service during routine operations. Activity programming (bingo, live music, holiday meals) and a generally home-like atmosphere are cited as contributing to resident engagement. Management’s local, private ownership is viewed positively in some accounts, with notes of hands-on leadership, smooth admissions/discharges, and occasional effective crisis logistics (for example, arranging alternate food service during a disruption).

At the same time, a pattern of operational weaknesses appears across reviews. Communication with families and within the care team is inconsistent: there are repeated comments about poor follow-up, curt or unhelpful phone interactions, and inadequate notification after clinical events. Staffing levels are frequently described as strained, producing long waits for assistance and uneven care continuity. Several reviews raise concerns about staff conduct and internal accountability, including discourteous interactions and workplace tension that can affect resident experience.

Clinical operations and safety emerged as areas requiring scrutiny. Multiple entries suggest gaps in medication administration and clinical-management practices (for example, medication handling oversights and missed respiratory therapy steps), alongside safety-control issues (such as unsecured cords or ad hoc equipment placement) that imply the need for stronger environmental-safety protocols. Meal-service continuity and variety appear uneven in some reports, with isolated incidents of kitchen disruption, limited menu substitutions, or supply gaps. Personal-care and laundry consistency is also variable, with some families noting delays or inconsistencies.

There are also governance and policy items to consider. A few accounts describe disputes over facility policies — for example, handling of firearms in common areas and the facility’s emphasis on discretion — that suggest policy clarity and visitor communication could be improved. Additionally, several serious concerns are raised about how clinical incidents and outcomes were handled, including family dissatisfaction with post-incident communication and escalation; these culminated in regulatory complaints in some cases. Because some reviews reference severe clinical outcomes and formal complaints, prospective residents and families may wish to ask directly about incident-reporting procedures, recent survey outcomes, and changes implemented in response to complaints.

Overall, Newburgh Healthcare appears to provide strong rehabilitation services, many examples of compassionate front-line caregivers, and generally clean, comfortable surroundings. However, variability in staffing, communication, clinical-management practices, and certain safety and policy controls are recurring themes. Families considering this facility should observe current staffing levels and handoff processes, ask for documentation of clinical-incident follow-up and corrective actions, review the meal-service plan and emergency backups, and discuss specific care needs (including respiratory and medication management) with the care team before placement.

    About Newburgh Healthcare

Newburgh Healthcare sits at 10466 Pollack Ave and has served the community for over 50 years as a privately owned senior care facility, and folks know it's tied to Newburgh Health Care, a nursing home nearby, which means you'll find both nursing home and assisted living options there, and there's a whole range of care, from help with daily activities to in-house therapy for physical, occupational, or speech needs thanks to their partnership with Progressive Health, and meals can be changed for special diets with alternate choices if needed. There's a full-time wound care specialist on site and services like wound care, mental health help, and substance use treatment, plus a beauty and barbershop, and the activities and amenities are set up to suit older adults and keep folks comfortable. Families can count on expert advice for long-term care and family caregiving, including help with questions about Long-term Care Insurance, Medicaid and assisted living eligibility, and the place also offers non-emergency rides to appointments through Ride To Care, so getting to the doctor doesn't have to be a worry. Newburgh Healthcare's Facebook page gives updates to the community, the official provider directory gets checked at least once a month for accuracy, and there's a way to report directory errors. The facility has some credentialing rules for practitioners and hospitals, though it doesn't use special scores for quality, cost, or patient experience when setting up networks. Reviews put Newburgh Healthcare at a 4.1-star average from 13 ratings, and over the years, the folks there have focused on providing steady, personalized care to seniors, so if someone needs therapy, activities, or just help getting through the day, it's all arranged in one place.
