    Beautiful hotel-like community excellent care

I moved my mom here and have been very pleased - the community is beautiful, clean and hotel-like, with excellent dining and lots of activities. Staff from leadership to nurses, CNAs and support teams are warm, professional and genuinely caring, move-in was smooth, communication is informative, and I'd encourage anyone to visit and see the care for themselves.

    Summary of reviews

Residences at Deer Creek presents as a well-appointed, mid-to-large senior living community with many operational strengths alongside notable areas for improvement. Facility amenities and common spaces are frequently described as attractive and well maintained: landscaped grounds, multiple activity spaces (library, theater, exercise room), an on-site salon, and a restaurant-style dining room that operates with extended hours. Apartment layouts are often reported as roomy and accessible, with private bathrooms and step-in showers in many units. On-site rehabilitation and therapy services, scheduled transportation, and routine maintenance/repair responsiveness contribute to a campus model that supports independent, assisted, and memory-care needs.

Care quality is a recurrent positive theme. Reviewers emphasize compassionate, patient staff at most levels—nurses, CNAs, dining staff, and leadership are frequently praised for respectful interactions and personalized attention. Several comments highlight long-tenured staff and proactive clinical oversight, which families associate with safety and peace of mind. The dining program is a clear strength for many families: restaurant-style service, seasonal menus, homemade soups and desserts, and consistent meal hours are cited repeatedly. The activities program is extensive, with daily offerings including music performances, group exercise, crafts, bingo, family nights, and outings that support social engagement across care levels.

However, pattern-level concerns emerge around operational consistency. Staffing shortages—particularly on weekends and within some memory-care shifts—are described as causing delays in responses, limited engagement during certain hours, and increased reliance on remaining staff. Relatedly, family communication is described as uneven: while many families report informative and timely updates, others cite difficulty reaching leadership, slow follow-up, or brusque communication tone. Housekeeping and resident-room upkeep appear inconsistent: common areas are typically well maintained, but some families note variability in room cleaning, garbage removal, and resident personal grooming services.

Memory care receives mixed assessments. Some accounts describe warm, secure memory units with attentive nurses and meaningful programming; other accounts identify gaps in dementia-specific training, low staff engagement on particular shifts, and underutilized therapeutic spaces. These descriptions suggest variability in the lived experience across units and shifts rather than a uniform programmatic shortfall. Additional operational issues reported include occasional delays in emergency-call responses, uneven follow-through on tasks such as assistive-device maintenance or personal-care routines, and concerns about transparency in the admissions/deposit process and pricing clarity.

In summary, Residences at Deer Creek offers a robust set of amenities, a strong dining program, and a generally compassionate caregiving culture that many families find reassuring. Prospective residents and families should weigh these strengths against recurring operational weaknesses: inconsistent staffing levels and communication, variable housekeeping at the room level, and uneven dementia-care engagement. Visiting in person, meeting clinical leadership, clarifying deposit and admission policies in writing, and observing the memory-care unit during multiple times of day can help assess whether the community’s operational consistency aligns with an individual resident’s needs.

    About Residences at Deer Creek

Residences At Deer Creek sits in Schererville, Indiana, in a three-story building with warm, earth-toned exteriors and landscaped grounds, and you'll find that people come here for comfortable living and a sense of community, as well as support when it's needed, and you can tell they care about wellness because there's a fitness center with treadmills, bikes, and exercise balls-even memory care residents can use those-and they do regular fitness classes and have daily activities, outings, and special events to help everyone stay active and keep their minds busy. There are studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom private apartments, and all are designed with comfort in mind, with cozy bedrooms, soft lighting, and floral bedding meant to create a peaceful feeling, plus well-lit halls with seating areas for resting or chatting along the way, and the building is pet-friendly if someone wants to bring a small animal. When it comes to meals, there are both open restaurant-style dining rooms and a complimentary café or bistro for casual meals, so it's easy for residents to sit and eat together if they want to, and the spaces are decorated with care, usually with fireplaces and TVs for a homey touch.

Residences At Deer Creek's services cover independent living, assisted living, memory care, and skilled nursing and rehab, and it also offers short-term and respite stays for people who might only need care for a little while, plus outpatient therapy like physical, occupational, and speech therapy right on-site, so it has options for different needs as people age or recover from illness. Memory care is a focus here, with staff certified as Dementia Practitioners, apartments designed for safety, secure environments, and programs like the Snoezelen® Multi-Sensory Therapy Environments, which use lights and sounds to help residents relax, and there's a strong emphasis on providing both active support and respect for dignity, with caregivers who are trained to help people living with Alzheimer's or dementia. There are life enrichment programs, wellness classes, support groups such as the Caregiver Support Group for Alzheimer & Dementia, and a Parkinson's Support Group & Exercise Program, all meant to help residents and families alike.

Other amenities include a beauty salon and spa, transportation services, a game room, activity rooms, a movie room, and garden patios with raised beds, so there's always something for someone who likes to be busy or just wants to be in pleasant surroundings, and the whole community is designed to be safe and accessible, with a covered entry, emergency response systems, and maintenance-free living to bring peace of mind to everyone. Kind, attentive staff offer care 24/7 if needed, from weekly help to daily personalized assistance and memory support, and the community calendar makes sure there's always something to do, whether it's fitness, games, or visits to local attractions like parks, museums, or shops. The month-to-month payment model keeps things flexible, and both Residences At Deer Creek and the sister community, Residences at Coffee Creek, are licensed and follow state rules, making them reliable choices for seniors looking for a welcoming, well-rounded, and supportive place to live.
