    Clean friendly homey active community

I moved my mom here and I'm very pleased - the community is clean, well kept, and bright with roomy rooms and friendly residents. Meals are good with generous portions, and there are plenty of daily activities (crafts, movies, cards) that keep people social and active. Staff and the coordinator were welcoming and helpful, it's close to family, and I would recommend it as a comfortable, homey place to live.

    Summary of reviews

The Rose of Ames generates a mix of favorable and concerning impressions. Many reviewers emphasize the physical environment and community aspects: rooms are described as spacious and bright, common areas are kept clean, and the building offers a range of activity spaces including craft rooms, movie/theater rooms, and game areas. Families and residents often highlight an active social program, a welcoming atmosphere, and a helpful admissions coordinator. The facility's large, roomy dining area and proximity to family are also cited as practical strengths, particularly for visitors and residents who value social engagement and space for distancing.

At the same time, substantive operational concerns appear across the feedback. The most consistent themes relate to clinical and caregiving functions: several accounts indicate inconsistent nursing care, limited staff availability when assistance is needed, and specific incontinence-care concerns. Reviewers also point to variability in caregiver skill and minimal-to-poor assistance in some cases. These issues suggest the facility may struggle to meet higher-acuity or highly dependent resident needs reliably.

Dining and food service produce mixed reactions. Some residents and families praise meal portions and the dining environment, while others describe poor or inconsistent meal quality. Activity programming and social opportunities are broadly viewed positively; the facility's multiple dedicated spaces and an active resident community are clear strengths for people seeking engagement and recreation.

Management and communication show a split pattern as well. The admissions coordinator and front-line staff are often described as helpful and welcoming, yet there are reported gaps in emergency-to-family communication and instances where service offerings did not match expectations. Given this, prospective residents and families should verify the facility's capabilities against their care needs: confirm staffing levels and ratios, specific nursing and incontinence-care protocols, emergency notification procedures, and which services are contractually provided versus promotional. In summary, The Rose of Ames may be a good fit for individuals seeking a socially active, well-appointed community with ample common-space amenities, but families of residents with higher clinical or continuous care needs should conduct targeted inquiries and observation before committing.
