    Clean modern facility caring staff

I moved my mom here and have been very pleased - the facility is modern, clean and well kept, with comfortable rooms and pond views. The staff are caring, knowledgeable and go above and beyond, keeping us updated and making the transition smooth. There are abundant activities (music, church/Bible study, movies, games), good food and strong therapy/support services, and the independent/assisted/nursing continuum gives us confidence.

    Summary of reviews

Mill Pond is frequently described as a modern, well-kept senior campus that offers a full continuum of care — independent living, assisted living, and nursing/rehabilitation — with an emphasis on rehabilitation and activity programming. Many families praised direct-care staff as compassionate and attentive, noting frequent phone updates, individualized attention from nurses and caregivers, and specific instances of staff going beyond expectations. Rehabilitation services and daily physical therapy are recurring positives, and reviewers commonly describe a family-like atmosphere and reliable ancillary services such as laundry and transportation.

The activities program is a clear strength: a regular monthly calendar, a wide variety of offerings (music programs, movie nights, church services, Bible study, games, social events like ice cream socials and tea parties, and adaptive activities such as Wii bowling) supports social engagement and routine. Interior spaces are often characterized as clean, modern, and comfortable; several reviewers appreciated pleasant room views and well-maintained common areas. The dining experience is generally described positively with generous portions and palatable meals, though a minority of comments indicate mixed satisfaction with dining-room arrangements or distancing practices.

Areas for caution center on operational and programmatic consistency. Several reviewers raised concerns about outdoor maintenance and pond upkeep, including vegetation control and pest-control needs. Memory-care capability and transparency is another important pattern: reviewers recommended asking specific questions about dementia programming and long-term cognitive-care readiness, as some families perceived gaps between assisted-living services and more specialized memory care. Physical accessibility also varies by unit floor plan, with a few apartments noted as difficult for wheelchair maneuvering.

Management and logistics show mixed impressions. Many reviewers described informative, accommodating tours and knowledgeable staff; however, others reported occasional leadership confusion, restricted access during health-events or renovation periods, long tours, and discrete incidents involving staff conduct or door-access procedures. Cost and location considerations were raised by some families, particularly the distance to local physicians and family members and the need to verify pricing and service inclusions.

Overall, Mill Pond appears to offer strong day-to-day care, robust therapy services, and a lively activity schedule within a modern campus setting. Prospective residents and families should verify specific needs during a visit: ask for detailed information about memory-care programming and capacity, confirm unit accessibility and current renovation timelines, review outdoor maintenance and pest-control plans, and clarify tour/access policies and pricing to ensure the community’s operations align with the resident’s clinical and lifestyle needs.

    About Mill Pond

Mill Pond sits at 1201 S.E. Mill Pond Ct. in Ankeny, Iowa, and it's what people call a retirement community, so if someone's looking for different kinds of care, they can probably find it there-like independent living, assisted living, memory care, transitional care, and long-term care, all set up in apartments right on the grounds, and the memory care units are made to help folks with dementia or those needing extra support. The place has private apartments, and you're likely to see outdoor spaces like gardens, walking paths, and even a pond that's stocked for catch-and-release fishing, which is nice for folks who want to get out for a stroll or try their luck with a line, plus there's a patio so people can sit and talk or just relax. Dogs and cats can come along too, because Mill Pond's pet friendly, which isn't always true of other places, and people can enjoy amenities like a private theater, a library for quiet reading, a fitness center to get some exercise, a billiards room for a few games, a little general store for small needs, and guest suites if someone's got family coming in from out of town. Staff can help with housekeeping and maintenance so residents don't need to worry as much about chores. There's a health center on the grounds for rehabilitation, both short-term and long-term, and they help with transition after someone's been in the hospital. Folks can get meals and guest dining is available so people can eat with their visitors, and there's even a salon for haircuts and such, which is convenient. Mill Pond has sponsored resources for older adults, like a POAMN Older Adult Ministry Guide, and they offer information about affordable housing and disaster recovery, plus there are dementia-friendly resources and other support for aging and health. The recent redevelopment added more apartments, including independent living, assisted living, and memory care, so there's some new space around, and people can choose what works best for them whether they're looking for a little bit of help or need more care.
