    Warm staff and beautiful facilities

I live at Elite Lodge of Ashworth and am very pleased - the staff (Dirk especially) are warm and attentive, the grounds and pool are beautiful, apartments are spacious and customizable, meals are delicious, and there are always activities and onsite therapy. It's extremely clean, organized, pet-friendly, with underground parking and weekly housekeeping - a nearly perfect independent living option for active seniors.

    Summary of reviews

Overall impression Elite Lodge of Ashworth presents as a large, well-landscaped independent living community with a broad amenity set and an active social environment. Feedback consistently highlights caring, accessible staff and a long-standing kitchen team; residents describe a home-like atmosphere, frequent programming, and many on-site services that support independent aging in place. The community offers multiple apartment sizes and several customization options, plus conveniences such as in-unit laundry in select units, patios/balconies, underground heated parking, a theatre, a library, and scheduled transportation.

Care and staff Staff performance is a clear strength: tour experiences and resident comments emphasize approachable, helpful staff and management that respond to needs. On-site clinical supports (physical and occupational therapy) and an emergency call system in apartments contribute to a higher level of clinical readiness than many independent-living communities. That said, the community is primarily structured for independent residents; families should confirm care pathways and transfer arrangements if a higher level of daily assistance may be needed in the future.

Dining Dining impressions are mixed. Many residents and families praise the chef and describe high-quality, country-club style meals; others report dissatisfaction with food flavor, presentation, or specific sanitation and presentation lapses. Meal-service frequency also varies by plan—some arrangements include multiple daily meals while other residents reference only limited meal options—so prospective residents should verify which meal package is included and ask to sample current menus during a visit.

Activities and social life Activity programming is a major positive: scheduled classes, pool aerobics, pool tournaments, woodworking, live entertainment, outings, and resident clubs create a lively calendar and strong peer engagement. The community appears to attract active, independent seniors; reviewers describe an energetic atmosphere with many opportunities for socialization and continuing hobbies. Families seeking a quieter or more assisted model should evaluate fit carefully.

Facilities and maintenance Interiors vary: many apartments have been updated and are described as spacious and well-laid-out, while other parts of the complex retain older finishes and dated kitchens. Renovations are ongoing, producing a mix of new and older units. Grounds and common areas are generally well kept, but several comments point to deferred exterior maintenance (for example, window and siding work) and some pest-control concerns. Practical limitations include constrained hallway widths in places and limited closet/storage space in certain floor plans—items to inspect during a tour.

Management, contracts, and fees The property offers multiple financial structures (buy-in and lease options) and ancillary services (guest rooms, party-room rental, scheduled transportation), but reviewers indicate that pricing and contract terms can be confusing. The community commonly requires an annual lease with upfront first/last/deposit payments; guest-room or event-space fees may apply. Some families described a sales-focused touring approach, so prospective residents should request clear, written explanations of costs, refund terms, and which services are included in the base fee.

Notable patterns and recommendations Patterns across feedback suggest strong staff relationships, robust activities, and valuable on-site therapy services as primary strengths. The most significant operational concerns are variability in dining experience, mixed unit renovation status, occasional exterior maintenance and pest-control issues, and a sometimes opaque financing/lease presentation. For families considering Elite Lodge of Ashworth, recommended next steps are: schedule a meal tasting, tour both updated and older units, review the lease/buy-in paperwork line-by-line, ask about scheduled maintenance and pest-control plans, and confirm transfer pathways if levels of care change. These checks will help determine whether the community’s active, social model and amenities match the resident’s care needs and expectations.

    About Elite Lodge of Ashworth

Elite Lodge of Ashworth sits on 11 acres of landscaped grounds with tall trees, flower beds, and walking paths, giving residents a quiet, park-like setting in West Des Moines. The building is single-story and offers one, two, and three bedroom independent living suites, with 24 different floor plans ranging from 710 to 1,800 square feet, so people can find something that feels comfortable, whether you're after a simple one-bedroom or need a bit more space for guests or personal things. Each suite has full kitchens, washer and dryer hook-ups, private balconies or patios, bay windows, and large closets, and many have individual climate control, so residents can set the temperature as they like.

Residents get weekly housekeeping, personal laundry, and dry cleaning services, so cleaning's not a worry, and all utilities like water, electric, sewer, trash, and Wi-Fi come included, which can really make things simpler. There's 24-hour staff available, an emergency call system in each suite, and a registered nurse onsite day and night, and there's 24-hour security, so folks and their families can feel at ease. Residents must meet a minimum age and can bring pets up to 30 pounds, which is nice for those who don't want to leave their companion behind. There's a $1,500 deposit, with rent or purchase options, and leases go month-to-month after one year for more flexibility.

Folks here have access to many spaces and activities, like indoor and outdoor common areas, a lounge, a billiards room, a game room, and a woodworking shop, and there are also libraries with internet and printers, a movie room for weekly films, and places for cards or ping-pong, so it stays lively for just about all interests. There's a full-service salon for hair and grooming, massage therapists, and heated garages or outdoor parking. Around the property, people enjoy raised garden beds, walking paths, a courtyard, outdoor grilling, and spots to sit under the shade. Inside, there's a gym, fitness center, swimming pool, and an indoor hot tub for relaxation or water-based exercise, plus a Past Time Multi-Purpose Room and a cocktail lounge for gatherings and events.

Meals are served daily, and folks can eat in the main dining area or reserve a private dining room for special occasions. The Lodge is known for its friendly, well-trained staff, cleanliness, and the way they pay attention to details, and it provides all levels of care-independent living, assisted living, memory care, nursing home services, and even hospice, so people can stay as their needs change. There's no smoking allowed in any of the private or public indoor areas. The Lodge sits near local shops, entertainment, hospitals, specialists, and pharmacies, and staff provide scheduled transportation for shopping, outings, or medical appointments. Residents also get free green fees at Willow Creek Golf Course, social and educational events, and devotional services both onsite and offsite, which many enjoy taking part in, and those who like animals will be glad they allow pets.

Each week, there are structured programs and activities to help folks stay social and active-things like bridge, book clubs, evening events, and walking clubs, and there's always room to pick up new hobbies or spend time with neighbors. The staff is there to provide round-the-clock support, personal care, and help in a discreet way so folks still feel at home. The Lodge has security systems, guest services with front desk help, and suite maintenance, and there is private locked storage if someone wants to store things safely. The suites can be remodeled, or new residents can move in as they are, depending on preference or budget. It's a place with options and plenty of ways to feel both independent and supported.
