    Very caring, clean, comfortable facility

I moved my mother here and am very pleased: Adrianna, Carla, Linda and Administrator Trina and the med aides are caring, respectful and regularly go above and beyond. The facility is very clean and odor-free, in a nice location with private carpeted rooms and bathrooms, friendly welcoming staff, good activities and snacks - safe, comfortable and highly recommended.

    Summary of reviews

Reviewers present a mixed but consequential picture of Watercrest at Carrington. Positive feedback centers on the caregiving staff: many accounts describe friendly, compassionate nurses and aides who actively interact with residents and often go beyond basic duties. The facility has an on-site nursing presence, dedicated medication aides, and provides assistance with activities of daily living, meals, housekeeping, and snacks. Admissions experiences are described as welcoming and move-ins as seamless; several comments note private rooms with en-suite bathrooms and a generally clean, odor-free environment. For families seeking an affordable, no-frills option with hands-on staff, these strengths are notable.

At the same time, there are recurring operational concerns worth consideration. Staffing levels are described as tight, which some reviewers link to delays in personal care and inconsistent delivery of routine tasks such as bathing. Dining service is uneven in two dimensions: timing of meals and the quality or tone of service staff interactions. Activity programming is described as limited or inconsistent across reports, leaving some residents with few engagement options. Facility condition comments are mixed โ€” while cleanliness is praised, the interior is also described as dated, dark, or having small rooms, producing a cooler, less homelike ambiance for some residents.

A few more serious patterns emerge that prospective families should evaluate during a tour and in follow-up conversations. Several reviewers raised pest-control concerns in certain areas and an allegation of theft/financial misconduct appears in the feedback; these items point to areas where documentation, policies, and administrative oversight merit direct inquiry. Reviewers also describe gaps in management follow-through and occasional concerns about staff conduct or responsiveness. Finally, opinions about the surrounding neighborhood vary, with some expressing perceived safety concerns.

In summary, Watercrest at Carrington shows clear strengths in staff compassion, basic clinical coverage, and housekeeping, making it a viable option for families prioritizing hands-on care and affordability. However, the facility also shows operational vulnerabilities โ€” especially around staffing consistency, certain sanitation and security concerns, activity offerings, and management responsiveness โ€” that should be explored directly with leadership. Prospective residents and families would benefit from targeted questions during a visit (staffing ratios and shift coverage, pest-control protocols, incident and theft reporting procedures, personal-care schedules, meal-service timing, and recent corrective actions) and from checking recent inspection reports and references to verify how the facility has addressed the concerns reflected in these reviews.

    About Watercrest at Carrington

Watercrest at Carrington sits at 1432 N Waco Ave in Wichita, Kansas, over in the Historic Midtown neighborhood, and the place has a quiet feel, making it pretty home-like for seniors looking for a little peace but wanting to stay close to the city's center. The facility belongs to Watercrest Communities, which also has other places like Carrington House Central, Carrington at Cherry Creek, and Victoria Falls, so they've got some experience with caring for older folks and keep things fairly steady across their locations. The staff at Watercrest at Carrington focus on making sure people feel safe and comfortable, with a big focus on listening to residents and personalizing care depending on each person's needs, so folks who want privacy can get it, but those that need more help with bathing, dressing, or remembering medication can always count on 24/7 help and a simple call system. People who live there get to keep as much of their independence as possible, but they'll always get assistance when they need it, and the whole place is set up to let people age in place, meaning if someone needs more help down the road, they don't have to move out.

There's always something going on since the staff like to keep residents active with scheduled activities, social events, and even some resident-run clubs and programs aimed at helping folks keep up with their hobbies or find a new one, whether that's using the art room, watching a movie in a small theater, reading in the library, or just talking with others in one of the common areas inside. The meals are cooked by a professional chef and there's always restaurant-style dining, with special meals for those with diabetes or allergies, and the residents can eat pretty much when they want, which is nice. Rooms come private, with private bathrooms, basic kitchenettes, cable TV, phone service, air conditioning, Wi-Fi, and simple furnishings, and people can adjust the temperature by themselves. The apartments rent month-to-month, so there's a bit of flexibility, and no mention of pets being allowed, so folks with animals may want to look elsewhere. There's security like cameras and a secured main door, and the staff are known for being friendly and helpful, which the residents and their families have mentioned, even though the rating sits at about 3.1 out of 7 reviews, so some like it more than others.

Residents who want or need it can get assistance with all the day-to-day stuff like housekeeping, laundry, bathing, medicine management, and even more advanced care like diabetic care, non-ambulatory help, and incontinence care, as well as memory care for folks with Alzheimer's or other memory problems, so those worried about wandering or confusion can feel a little safer. For people still able and wanting to live on their own but looking for a community to socialize in and have meals taken care of, Watercrest at Carrington also provides independent living options, plus there's support for families to stay in the loop through family services. Transportation services and parking are available, though outside amenities like pools or garden courtyards aren't mentioned. There's a fitness and wellness room, walking paths, devotional times, and group outings, and community engagement is encouraged but not forced. The facility has been recognized a couple of times, getting named a Best of Senior Living community and featured by Assisted Living Magazine, and they emphasize creating a genuine sense of family and home over at Carrington, even though the building's an apartment style without fancy extras. It's part of a neighborhood with both LGBTQ protections and income protections, so more folks can feel welcome, and while the place isn't up for sale or rent on big listing sites like Trulia right now, it continues to serve older adults needing supportive assisted living, memory care, or even some in-home help through their broader Watercrest Communities network.
