    Pleasant facility with minor issues

I placed my relative here and overall I'm pleased: the facility is well-kept, staff are attentive, and activities are good. A few minor improvements would make it excellent, but I recommend it.

    Summary of reviews

Overall impression: Reviews present a mixed picture. Reviewers highlight helpful direct-care staff, organized activities and games, and generally acceptable meals, with some rooms described as well maintained. At the same time, there are recurring operational and safety concerns that prospective residents and families should evaluate during a visit.

Care quality and clinical oversight: Multiple reviews indicate a perceived need for more attentive medical and nursing oversight. Concerns include delays in addressing some personal-care needs and inconsistent follow-through on clinical issues. Sanitation concerns and inconsistent housekeeping practices were described, which can affect residentsโ€™ comfort and infection-prevention expectations. Families should ask about staffing ratios, on-call clinical coverage, and routine care schedules when assessing care quality.

Staff and management: Direct-care staff are often described as helpful, but reviewers also note variability in responsiveness and communication tone. There are comments indicating administrative and management inconsistencies, including unclear policies around ancillary charges (for items such as beverages or store purchases). These governance and policy gaps appear to contribute to family frustration and a perception of uneven oversight.

Dining and activities: Dining is generally characterized as acceptable; some reviewers called the food "okay." The facility offers recreational programming and games that some residents find beneficial for engagement. However, reviewers also described a limited sense of community and an environment that can feel unfriendly to some residents, suggesting the social climate may vary by unit or shift.

Facilities and safety: Several reviewers raised safety and accessibility concerns related to the physical plant. Specific issues include poor exterior maintenance (damaged pavement and ramps), lack of appropriate ramping or pathways for mobility devices, and furniture/bed sizing that may not fit all residents. These facility deficits translate into trip and accessibility hazards and warrant an on-site inspection focused on mobility routes and assistive-device accommodation.

Security and property concerns: There are mentions of theft among residents and general concerns about the security of personal belongings. While these appear as individual incidents in reviews, they reflect a broader need for clearer property-protection practices and stronger safeguards for resident valuables.

Notable patterns and recommendations: The dominant themes are operational inconsistencyโ€”particularly in housekeeping, clinical responsiveness, and administrative communicationโ€”and physical-plant deficiencies affecting safety and accessibility. Prospective residents and families should request specifics about staffing levels, clinical oversight, housekeeping schedules, property-security procedures, fee structures for ancillary items, and recent maintenance or accessibility upgrades. When touring, observe common areas for sanitation and social climate, ask to see care plans and staffing rosters, and verify wheelchair/ramp accommodations relevant to the residentโ€™s mobility needs.

    About Oaks Personal Care Home

Oaks Personal Care Home in Lewisport, KY has 56 assisted living units and offers several types of accommodations including one-bedroom apartments, studio apartments, and shared apartments, and some rooms have private bathrooms and kitchenettes, plus they're air-conditioned and come with cable TV, telephones, and Wi-Fi, which most folks appreciate these days. The staff is there around the clock, day or night, to help with daily needs like getting in and out of bed, dressing, bathing, and using the bathroom, and if someone's using a wheelchair or needs help with walking, the staff's ready to assist with transfers, and they also help with mealtime and feeding if required, especially for people dealing with conditions like Parkinson's. Residents who have diabetes can get support with monitoring insulin, and there's special diabetic meal plans as well as accommodations for food allergies. If managing medicine gets to be a chore, there's medication management and emergency alert systems throughout the community so help's always close.

Meals are provided and prepared with quality ingredients, and everyone eats in a shared dining room, but special diets aren't a problem, and there's move-in help so settling in is easier. There's a strong emphasis on offering memory care for those with Alzheimer's disease or other types of dementia, and options for folks with limited mobility, including non-ambulatory care and incontinence support, are all considered as part of living there. If someone's looking for activities, there are plenty-like bingo and card games, arts and crafts, gardening, walking paths, and scheduled daily programs, including movie nights and music sessions, and even a game room and a community movie theater that get regular use. Social areas like a library, communal kitchen, beauty salon, fitness room, and outdoor gardens are available, and pets like cats and dogs are welcome too. The floors are non-slip, entryways and bathrooms are ADA compliant, and furnishings in the common areas help keep things comfortable and safe.

There's also offsite activities and community-sponsored events, and religious or devotional gatherings are part of life for folks who want spirituality nearby, plus resident-run events really give everyone a chance to stay connected. Housekeeping, laundry, including dry cleaning, transportation for appointments, and apartment maintenance are included, so residents seldom have to worry about those everyday chores, and the nurse on staff and health monitoring programs give peace of mind to families. Residents can join wellness programs, fitness or exercise classes, and enjoy time in outdoor spaces with gardens and walking paths, and there's a focus on dignity and supporting people's independence along with the care provided. The staff aims to help everyone thrive by meeting personal needs and encouraging social, physical, mental, and emotional engagement without being overbearing, and services like nursing care, rehabilitation, therapy, pharmacy, and specialized intervention programs are all part of the offerings alongside regular security checks and unscheduled needs service if something comes up suddenly, which helps form a comfortable and supportive environment. Parking for family, furnished rooms, and a sense of community round out what's available at Oaks Personal Care Home, making it a practical choice for seniors in Hancock County looking for a place where independence and support go hand in hand.
